Mexican food is the worst. No quality, no variety, with a horrible overall taste.

I'm a food lover and this shit doesn't deserve to be called food. I have eaten in several mexican restaurants where i live and in other parts in the world. The first encounters were hugely disappointing. I kept trying different places to find out if the poor quality and lack of variety in flavours was just incidental. Because around here one of these restaurants is one of the most popular places, and so many people love mexican food.

Conclusion: It's all the same crap. The majority of people have terrible taste (which I knew already, but this is proof of it once again). Mcdonalds type of food comes to mind. Will not eat it anymore. Thought I'd share :thumbsup

PS I feel for you Americans where this crappy food is part of your food culture now. I welcome any culinary addition anywhere, because it's always an enrichment - except for mexican food. It's the only food which is able to bring the overall culinary experience in any country down.

Manfap 04-29-2014 12:10 AM

You can get quality, but not in most places.

It's the slowcooked stuff that's nice. Restaurants dont do that.

CurrentlySober 04-29-2014 12:23 AM

I agree to a point. When I lived in San Diego though, I had a few home cooked meals made by Mexican Friends, and they were lovely - Tacobell, not so much, however I do still yearn for a tacobell burrito from time to time :)

You're surprised you can't find good Mexican food in the Netherlands?

JuicyBunny 04-29-2014 01:52 AM

Mexican food from Campos to Echo Park trucks to the Restaurant Sanchez in West LA are the only things I miss of LA. That and the weed clinics.

The town I live in has this little hole in the wall place that only has two tables so about 99% of the stuff it to go, but it is very good. It is owned by a Mexican family and they make everything from scratch.

My favorite food, besides grilled fish.

arock10 04-29-2014 05:03 AM

Mexican food is excellent with plenty of variety and flavors. Pro tip if it involves a hard taco and iceberg lettuce, run away!

Say what? Indonesian food bad? :(

Many regional cuisines exist, often based upon cultural and foreign influences.[1] Indonesian cuisine varies greatly by region and has many different influences.

Indonesian food is so enormously diverse. It has so many different influences and tastes that I can not take you seriously if you say it all tastes the same.

Sorry man!

joepusher 04-29-2014 05:42 AM

You're probably getting that food with a bunch of sauce and melted cheddar cheese.

This is real Mexican food in these pics below.

then you went to shit holes... Just because they aren't a chain doesn't make them any less terrible, read a review...

Authentic is completely subjective anyway. Cali mexican, Tex-mex both are different and damn good--given you don't eat in shit holes of course. authentic can be terrible too if you get a family run business who have been cooking it wrong for so long they have no idea what good tasting food is.

TrashyGirl 04-29-2014 06:24 AM

What we mostly eat in the USA is Americanized Mexican food. real Mexican food is awesome. if you go to a Taco Bell in Mexico, it's called American fast food.

RebelR 04-29-2014 06:35 AM

I made pulled chicken tacos, home-made tortillas, with guacamole and pickled onion, and Cilantro Lime rice last night for dinner. It was awesome. Mexican food has very diverse flavors. As mentioned above, if the food seems ubiquitous then it's most likely not authentic.

michael.kickass 04-29-2014 06:49 AM

I was gonna say smthg about mexican food but I just can't get that Harmon pic out my head.

maybe...visit Indonesia and check out what they eat all the time - nasi goreng, nasi goreng, nasi goreng....In Padang - also nasi goreng but very spicy...comparing to other South East Asian countries (except Philipenes and Myanmar), Indonesian food suck completely

exactly....comparing to food in Malaysia or Thailand is not so good....I'm not talking about >20 dollars restaurants here, just normal food that normal people eat in simple bars :-)

Sounds like all you have ever had is the Americanized version of Mexican cuisine. There is a huge difference with authentic regional Mexican. Same with Chinese. Most Americans have no clue what real Chinese food is all about.

Sly 04-29-2014 06:58 AM

Exactly...Authentic mexican is amazing. A place in toronto has awesome owners..everything is fresh, made that day. All home made receipes...really good.

Also, im headed back to China in a week. I have about 5 foods i am going to eat my first day back.
Sesame noodles, native to the town i go to.
A chabu chabu noodle soup. where you pick what goes in the soup, they do it up in front of you.
Egg noodles with random veggies from a street vendor.
This rice flat noodle sorta lasagna thing, i don't know what it is called, but i know where to get it.
Dumplings, i just like them.

nico-t 04-29-2014 07:43 AM

now this is more like it :thumbsup i have never seen that on a menu in the places i been to. Any mexican restaurant i been to had only primarily those tacos, burritos and the rest of that gross shit on the menu

:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh Like The Netherlands is the place to go for good Mexican food; totally laughable.

I knew a guy that was opening a Mexican restaurant in Australia many years ago. He sent his chefs to SoCal so they could learn what it is supposed to taste like. Amsterdam has some great food but anyone seeking Mexican food there has to be a little daft.

Come to Los Angeles, there's plenty of great Mexican restaurants here.

F-U-Jimmy 04-29-2014 07:56 AM

The fact is that most foreign food you eat in America has been dumbed down to suit the American palate, mild and bland. The same is true of Holland and the UK. Saying that there are a few exceptions, for example the UK has some of the best Indian food in the world due to the fact that many Indian people took the offer of a free passport when the UK pulled out of controlling Indian, they came over to use our social security system. The upside was great Indian food but little else.

When I lived in Holland I ate some of the best steaks (Tornados) I have ever tasted. And the pea soup was out of this world. Belgium fry?s are to die for.

No matter what country you live in you can get a ton of bad food you have to know where to eat, when I lived in Hong Kong it took a while to find a real non westernized Chinese restaurant. The Mandarin Hotels Limo driver took me to his local hangout and the food was out of this world.

In Penang, Malaysia I ate at a small hole in the wall with some Australian friends, compared to the more popular local restaurants the food was amazing, extremely hot and exactly what the locals eat.
To find good Mexican food you need to visit Mexico City or if that is out of the question try some of the restaurants in New Mexico USA. I have had some of the best Mex food there.:2 cents:
