Liberation of Iraq Bet - When will it start?
I don't mean to be sadistic in bringing this up, but the United States is going to go to war with Iraq, soon. Being realistic, this is inevitable (unless by some chance he leaves the country randomly, or throws every weapon he has out and destroys them within the next few days).
With that being said, lets do some "just for shits and giggles" predictions. What's your prediction for our first major strike publically covered by the press? "At so and so time, an attack was made on Baghdad" type thing on the news. When will that first press conference come? Base everything on GMT. Don't know if anybody here knows this, but US military strategy involves attacking when the moon is producing the lease light; giving us more of an advantage because we have far more superior night vision technology. My prediction is that it will occur at about 23:00 GMT (18:00 EST, 02:00 Iraqi time) on the 13th in the US / Greenwich (2 AM on the 14th) of March. |
This time next year if they keep stalling
|
I think we should stretch it out as long as possible. You know, to distract everyone from the real issues that plague our country.
|
Anyone want to bet on the number of Canadian troops the US manages to kill in friendly fire incidents this time?
|
Liberation of Iraq? Interesting choice of words.
You make it sound as if the USA is doing something honourable instead of making a dirty little grab for power in the middle-east. You reap what you sow. September 11? You aint seen nothing yet, baby! :winkwink: |

Yes, the liberation of Iraq. We're liberating the Iraqi people from their militant dictator - doesn't get much more simple than that. |

Work the numbers and you get a 0.00563% rate of death. 0.00279 rate of death for battle deaths, and 0.002735 rate of death for non-battle deaths. I'd expect to see a bit higher death rate than the Gulf, but certainly nothing as terribly managed as Vietnam. Before we were cleaning them out of Kuwait in open fields. This time we'll be sending soldiers directly into cities where Iraqi soldiers will be hiding. Here are some numbers from past wars:
American Revolution (1775?1783) Total servicemembers 217,000 Battle deaths 4,435 War of 1812 (1812?1815) Total servicemembers 286,730 Battle deaths 2,260 Indian Wars (approx. 1817?1898) Total servicemembers 106,000 Battle deaths 1,000 Mexican War (1846?1848) Total servicemembers 78,718 Battle deaths 1,733 Other deaths in service (nontheater) 11,550 Nonmortal woundings 4,152 Civil War (1861?1865) Total servicemembers (Union) 2,213,363 Battle deaths (Union) 140,414 Other deaths in service (nontheater) (Union) 224,097 Nonmortal woundings (Union) 281,881 Total servicemembers (Conf.) 1,050,000 Battle deaths (Conf.) 74,524 Other deaths in service (nontheater) (Conf.) 59,2972 Nonmortal woundings (Conf.) unknown Spanish-American War (1898?1902) Total servicemembers 306,760 Battle deaths 385 Other deaths in service (nontheater) 2,061 Nonmortal woundings 1,662 World War I (1917?1918) Total servicemembers 4,734,991 Battle deaths 53,402 Other deaths in service (nontheater) 63,114 Nonmortal woundings 204,002 Living veterans (102)3 2,212 World War II (1940?1945) Total servicemembers 16,112,566 Battle deaths 291,557 Other deaths in service (nontheater) 113,842 Nonmortal woundings 671,846 Living veterans (80)3 5,032,591 Korean War (1950?1953) Total servicemembers 5,720,000 Battle deaths 33,686 Other deaths in service (theater) 2,830 Other deaths in service (nontheater) 17,730 Nonmortal woundings 103,284 Living veterans (69)3 2,976,446 Vietnam War (1964?1975) Total servicemembers 9,200,000 Deployed to Southeast Asia 3,100,000 Battle deaths 47,410 Other deaths in service (theater) 10,788 Other deaths in service (nontheater) 32,000 Nonmortal woundings 153,303 Living veterans (55)3 7,495,029 Gulf War (1990?1991) Total servicemembers 2,322,332 Deployed to Gulf 1,136,658 Battle deaths 148 Other deaths in service (theater) 235 Other deaths in service (nontheater) 914 Nonmortal woundings 467 Living veterans (35)3 1,753,530 America's Wars Total Military service during war 42,348,460 Battle deaths 650,954 Other deaths in service (theater) 13,853 Other deaths in service (nontheater) 229,661 Nonmortal woundings 1,431,290 Living war veterans 18,865,926 Living veterans 25,038,459
The rate of death for all American-involved battles is 0.01537%. That's not too bad of a percent when you look at what all has been accomplished thoughout American history. |

1) US doens't attack, receives numerous terror attacks costing many times more than what a war would cost (both death wise, and money wise). 2) US attacks and eliminates / reduces the likelihood of a terror attack on its soil Pretty clear cut, eh? And the entire "you will reap what you sow" thing is bullshit, and you know it. You are in no position (and obviously...have lack of intelligence and/or knowledge) to determine what kind of retaliation will occur from anybody. You're just the typical Anti-America conspiracist that will go on ranting and raving about whatever you can find. |

" Yes, the liberation of Iraq. We're liberating the Iraqi people from their militant dictator - doesn't get much more simple than that."
25 tons of finest concentrated bullshit reside in this head, with other words ... I donīt share your opinion here. |
I recently read an article saying that when the US military conducts war games in an urban environment the death toll is about 10%. The Iraqis know the streets of Baghdad intimately and all that high-tech shit (other than night vision) isn't much use when you're fighting house-to-house. So if the Iraqis decide to put up a credible fight it WILL get messy! :ak47:

Transtasman rivally makes this "muslim v. the rest of the world" look soft.
