Ulbricht also appeared very active on social media. He?d recently flagged a video on YouTube, ?How To Get Away With Stealing,? calling it ?for later.?

The man behind Silk Road?s commission on the activity, the FBI alleges, has totaled 600,000 Bitcoins, or about $80 million by its own conversions.

hah, just like when the exchange farts, there's a bit of a dive but btc survives.

i'm confident it will do fine without silkroad, besides, it's all an investment now anyway. my real hope is it survives the mining phase and 99.9% of btc is mined, then we can see what it can really do.

The fact that Ulbricht was still online, and operating Silk Road, through September, is therefore surprising. he had ample warning the feds were after him as far back as June.

In fact, as the indictment against him makes clear, the feds were on to Silk Road back in January 2011. Their investigation discovered him allegedly trying to hire a hitman to take care of an extortionist in March 2013.

The bottom line is that if you were doing anything illegal on Tor or Silk Road for the last three years, you may be screwed.

SR vendors pay a fee to become vendors and there's also little fees charged during different transactions and so forth.

I just assumed SR and sites like it operated from Eastern Europe or some Third World place, not the country MOST LIKELY TO FIND YOU AND THROW THE BOOK AT YOU. Did he have a plan for when he inevitably got caught? Guess we'll find out.

Not that I personally think he was doing much, if anything, wrong... but use some common sense, man!
