Fast food employees on strike?

I read this morning that fast food employees are going on strike because they want $15 an hour? LOL.

Idiots.

good luck with that

You'd think if you made billions a year, it would benefit you in the long run to keep your employees happy, instead of training new peons that will eventually become angry and leave. They probably never look at it that way.

McDonald's can afford it, and if everyone has to pay another 20 cents for a hamburger, who gives a shit?

In fast food, I think In-n-out Burger pays the best, they have people starting at $10
These are not franchises, they are all privately owned and are damn clean places

So you think McDonalds should pay twice the minimum wage for an entry level position?

No, but there could be a higher ceiling on the pay, plus a quicker path to it. They're not doing rocket science, but who can live on $14k a year?

The Truth Hurts 08-29-2013 10:20 AM

most of these fuckers can't assemble bun-burger-cheese-bun in an even vertical stack without major mistakes. that's assuming the one taking your order understood english and didn't screw up the pressing of the pictures for your one-item order on their cash register. $15 an hour? fuck them.

In certain cities maybe yes.

When I left school at 16 I worked for an insurance co in London. They paid a premium to the paygrade because you worked in London, and it was pretty decent. The base Salary was around $10k a year with $2k added on cause of London. this was back in the late 80`s.

Just those that are buying McDonald's.

Yeah, that is almost the same as flipping burgers and salting fries. :error

Over 13 years now without eating any fast food whatsoever. What do I care how much they make? They'd probably just buy more porn if they had more money.

An entry level job is just that - entry level. It's not mean to be rewarded.

You start at the bottom and work your way up. The entry level position makes minimum wage. Then you work your way up, become a shift manager and make more money, and then store manager where you are making $40k a year. After that, if you are still so un-fucking motivated and continue to work in fast food, you become a regional manager.

The entire point here is you start at the very bottom - minimum wage - and you can work your way up or into another job.

BlackAndBlue 08-29-2013 10:56 AM

And there's a problem with them buying more porn with a pay increase @Tom PM? Hey, maybe a damn living wage for all workers is what's really required to stop video piracy.

I'm just trying to figure out when fast food workers unionized . . . Strikes by non-unions typically don't go very far. They fire the lot and it's business as usual the following day.

Nope, it's what I feel they would do; use their newfound disposable income. It's my subtle way of saying GOOD, pay them $15 an hour. McDonalds and the others are private companies and can do it if they want to. They already pay to fly some employees to attend Hamburger University. Since when is that up for a public vote? ;)

:1orglaugh You think underpaid fast-food workers are the issue in the industry?

The same job paid less if you were in another city, that was the point I was making.
And all I did was staple stuff together for 6 months until I got bored so the job was actually easier than a mcdonalds.

why pay em at all?

i don't even understand why they can strike or protest.. can't we just have the police break their legs?

oh i get it, then we'd have to pay for all the wheelchairs

quite the pickle.

[satire.]

I can't wait. I need more smack

TheSquealer 08-29-2013 11:43 AM

Surely some of you fucking morons walk into McDonalds, order lunch and then slip the cashier an extra $10.00 because you feel so bad for them and you feel your ordering something to eat is so unfair to them.

Oh... wait... you mean you don't?

Then shut the fuck up.

TheSquealer 08-29-2013 11:57 AM

The most ironic part of the whole notion of self entitlement and fairness and completely ignoring market rates (besides being fully subjective notions that never go away regardless of concessions)... is that the people squawking the loudest are the ones who typically aren't doing anything to help those they proclaim to support.

The single point of the senseless squawking about "whats right" and "whats fair" is to create the appearance of caring, where squawking louder and more frequently equates to more "caring"... and where the squawkers can then pat each other on the backs for their "caring" and then proclaim themselves to be champions of right and anoint each other as un-elected guardians with some sort of higher moral authority by virtue of their alleged "caring".

I never agree with the evil hamburger people except;
As McDonald's stated yesterday, their jobs are meant for teens and high schoolers. Not asshat immigrants planning a career taking the buns out to the trash.

An "activist" was crying on the news this morning about people who can't speak much english struggling to feed their families after working at mcdonalds for 20 years. I have no sympathy for them. Go home.

Mcdonalds Japan learned no one is interested in high priced fancy crapburgers. They just fired their ceo, scouted from Apple and are replacing him with an american who is going back to the super cheaper method mcdonalds has been built on.

If workers cannot survive on the offered wage, get another job. plenty of icdc colleges out there ready to help. LOL.

Wilbo 08-29-2013 12:29 PM

Let'em get 4 orders in a row right, then we'll talk. Until then they get what they deserve. Don't wanna get paid shit? Find someone who need your skills. Don't have any skills? get some. Don't wanna get skills? Keep your ass at Burger King. An ambitious person always finds a way.

96ukssob 08-29-2013 02:06 PM

what a joke. entry level job that requires no skillset and basic life abilities, yet they deserve more than a college grad :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

sorry, what a fucking joke

Exactly. Nice point and very true. Locally owned mom and pop shops do tend to pay better and treat their people like part of the family in cases I have been apart of or seen for sure. :2 cents::thumbsup

arock10 08-29-2013 03:20 PM

I'd point out the minimum wage has been declining since the 1970s when accounting for inflation and that the average worker at mcdonalds is now 30 (not 16 with their first job). But everyone is too busy talking about how great fast food workers easy job is and that they shouldn't be paid above the poverty line.

In-N -Out is a huge chain here in California, they serve a damn good hamburger. Not a mom and pop, just happens to be owned by one woman that believes in paying her employees better and the service shows

Deej 08-29-2013 03:23 PM

I think people are underpaid in general.

Do you own a business with at least 20 employees? If no, you speak only theoretically, easy to speak...
