Best movie trailer ever?

I don't know if they have awards for trailer creators, but whoever did the trailer for the new Superman should win an award. I'm not into Superman at all, but every time I see that trailer I want to go watch the movie. It's exciting and epic.

What other trailers have made you want to see a movie you otherwise would not want to see?

scuba steve 06-12-2013 09:31 AM

agreed, wasn't into superman at all until the first trailer came out, now can't wait for this weekend

Some Guy 06-12-2013 09:40 AM

I couldn't agree more. I've never been a Superman fan but after I started seeing trailers for this movie I thought, "wow, I must see this." Reviews of early screenings have all said the movie is absolutely fantastic. IGN.com just gave it a 9/10 which is pretty damn impressive.

dyna mo 06-12-2013 09:41 AM

i'm superexcitedman!

bronco67 06-12-2013 09:45 AM

It's my favorite trailer ever also.

docputer 06-12-2013 09:55 AM

I am looking forward to seeing it.

Scott McD 06-12-2013 09:55 AM

First i've seen that and yeah looks good. Wouldn't normally bother with anything to do with Superman.

Trying to think of some other trailers which have had the same effect. All i keep thinking of is comedies though...

Some Guy 06-12-2013 09:57 AM

I remember the trailer for District 9 being pretty awesome. Awesome enough to get me to go see it at the theater, anyway.

Christopher Nolan taking a "comic" and making his own movies, seems to be a good formula, so I'm going to watch my first ever Superman movie when this comes out.

I was never a fan of the old Batman movies, I thought they were idiotic. But Nolan's trilogy was bloody good! If he keeps doing these sort of films, I'll keep watching them.

AllAboutCams 06-12-2013 10:16 AM

Looks shit

dyna mo 06-12-2013 10:16 AM

One of the interesting things that Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan did with this reboot of Superman is to have Hans Zimmer completely re score the soundtrack and not just reuse the John Williams score from the original films. Everyone loves and recognizes the iconic Superman music from the originals, but the new score definitely gives this movie a fresh sound and feel. That took some balls to do...

Alternatively, the monologue given by Jor-El (Russel Crowe) to his infant son is very similar if not identical to that given by Marlon Brando from the 1978 movie that was also reused in the Superman Returns film.

I also think it's interesting that this idea of crystals containing information and the ability to create structures was introduced in the '78 movie but entirely unsupported by the actual comics, yet has continued to play a role in the subsequent movies.

Yes, I'm a geek.

DWB 06-12-2013 11:20 AM

The new Superman trailers are the best I've ever seen.

Side note, Redshoe worked on that movie. The effects company he works for made the Superman suit.

candyflip 06-12-2013 12:05 PM

These Superman trailers will be wholly responsible, should this movie break records as it looks like it might.

I had no interest and had written this one off until seeing these last trailers and like everyone else, can't fucking wait.

That's awesome.

I just did two weeks on Spiderman 2 and a week on the new Captain America.

Do you know if he was involved with either of those?

Happy Birthday Sly ;)

The trailer for Alien is often/usually considered to be the best trailer ever. I don't disagree, and it's possibly my favorite movie. I never look forward or get excited about upcoming movies, but I did with Prometheus, largely on the basis of its excellent trailer which suggested it would be as good as, or even superior to, Alien. Oh well.

Very creepy and atmospheric. Shows everything in the movie, but doesn't spoil it, and without a single word of dialogue. I think it would have scared the shit out of me if I'd seen it in a cinema in 1979.

If only whoever put that together ^^^^^ had made the full movie.

Every other trailer looks and sounds the same to me.

dyna mo 06-12-2013 12:48 PM

haha, i had the alien trailer queued up for this thread too, i was ~16 when i saw that in the theaters and it was fantastic.

promthesues trailer was so good i just up and went and bought the movie the day it came out on amazon, i should have rented it. lol

2MuchMark 06-12-2013 01:02 PM

On Superman:
I agree this trailer looks amazing but so did the other 2. I love Zack Snider's style of movie making (Watchman - wow!) and Superman looks spectacular. I am also a big fan of the 1979 version. Even though some of the fx are bad by today's standards, some of them are great especially for the era.

Europa Report:
WOW!!!!!!!!! Holy shit that looks great! Finally a Science-Fiction movie with maybe, possibly, some actual SCIENCE in it! For those who don't know, Europa is one of Jupiters moons and is probably has the best chance in the solar system to have life. According to scientists, it has a high chance of having liquid water under all that nice thanks to tidal forces of Jupiter. Woo!

Zombie Ass:
I um... sigh.

ALIEN:
Good trailer, good movie, BUT : Don't waste your time on the directors cut. It sucks. .

PROMETHEUS:
What a piece of shit. TERRIBLE movie. Just freakin' awful from start to finish. Oh and the freaking trailer SHOWS THE ENDING OF THE MOVIE. Dumbasses.

Ridley scott made 2 good movies : Alien, Bladerunner, and Thelma and Louise. All his other work stinks.

freecartoonporn 06-12-2013 02:04 PM

this looks normal to me.

Wouldn't that be 3? :)

I quite liked Prometheus, it wasn't "great" or anything.

Jack Reacher is one of the best movies I've watched recently, and I didn't really enjoy the trailer which happens sometimes.

Screwed Up 06-12-2013 02:57 PM

Didn't like that Superman trailer at all!!

The Alien and Prometheus ones looked very good though.

I hadn't watched a trailer in over a year. Because I feel they always contain spoilers. I even remember where some trailers already seemed to contain all the action present in a movie. When I saw the movie and realized I'd already seen it all in the trailer, I was pissed.

Back to not watching trailers.

dyna mo 06-12-2013 03:11 PM

Rent. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't amazing. Something fun.

NaughtyRob 06-12-2013 03:17 PM

Dark and gritty like The Dark Night makes it better than the old hoaky ones.

dyna mo 06-12-2013 03:18 PM

thanks Sly!

Agreed. Prometheus was a killer trailer as well.

Lester Burnham 06-12-2013 05:44 PM

I like the latest Man of Steel trailer with lots of Zodd in it better.

Nolan backed movies always have great trailers. The Batman Reboot trailers were all awesome. I also went insane on the Abrams Star Trek 2009 reboot trailer; that was bad ass ("Fire everything!!!!!")

Looked like 100 other movies to me (including Prometheus). And what is it with some character going somewhere, saying "Are you guys getting this", being ominously told to return, ignoring it (cos they're top scientists on an expensive mission so they have to behave recklessly) and sticking their face/hand/cock into whatever alien life form they find, followed by *scream*. Maybe it's just edited like that though.

Sunshine is a good, intelligent science fiction movie, at least for about the first hour or so, before it unfortunately descends into a boring 'alien'-on-board-picking-people-off kinda thing.

The trailer didn't spoil the movie, the movie the spoiled the trailer.

The Original 300 trailer WAS, in fact, The Best Movie Trailer Ever, which coincidentally-ish is the topic of this thread!!!!!

Too bad the original 300 movie was not that good of a movie.

L-Pink 06-13-2013 05:11 AM

adult-help 06-13-2013 05:17 AM

Him and his brother are the most talented writer/director in the industry IMO

Also really looking forward to his latest film Interstellar (2014)

I'd love to see them create a HBO TV Series!
