Why are studios still filming and producing videos if no one is buying them? How are they getting money to pay the models, pay the editors, etc etc.
And then people at home watch it all for free? Where does the money come from?

People are still paying for porn. Tubes are just cutting out what we used to call an "affiliate".

Think about 'scaling'...

If you have a site with 100 members, your not gonna wanna spend out on production, as you will get little return.

But if you have 5000 members, you'll get your return, just by producing new content - EVEN IF DOES GET STOLEN - Cause you are earning much more than you are spending to keep YOUR members happy...

The guy with 5000 members looks at his stuff being stolen as 'free promo ads' (Cutting out affiliates)

The guy with 100 members cries buckets about the tubes...

Go figure... And, FWIW, I DO come from a production background...

If movies are all free now from torrent sites and YouTube why are movies still being made?

The question is stupid. People will pay for a product if they enjoy that product and want to support the industry. Others will pay because they don't know how to get porn for free. Some like local storage (they might travel a lot and not want to watch porn using hotel wifi) and others might just want some of the extras that porn sites give you.

Porn paysites are convenience for a price. I don't think any tube site hosts 1080p quality videos, either.

The other day I heard Howard Stern mention his favorite movie is Jenna Jameson's "The Masseuse", so I looked it up.

lol, no the affiliates all left, why, I dunno, guess 5-1 profit margins were too small compared to 10-1 . Its the lack of affiliates coming out with sites that work is the problem, go back to what does.

Are you talking about affiliate programs? If so, that is not what I meant. I was referring to the actual affiliate/resellers of the affiliate programs.

As someone who has known CS for MANY years I can tell you that what he is telling you is, in fact, true. All of it.

He is one of the nicest coolest guys i ever met in this biz.

I think the first two posts contain a good amount of truth and explanation.

1. It is cutting out the affiliate.

2. Things still work out for you if you can do more volume than you did before under the previous conditions. The catch though is that you need more traffic than ever before. If you have 100 times the traffic you did in 2005 then you are still more profitable today even if your CTR is 1/3rd of what it used to be and your conversion ratios are double or triple what they were in 2005.

Now here's why it's bad for most people in our industry.

1. Obviously this is bad news for affiliates. That's obvious. :) But it's also bad news for everyone else other than those who are increasing gaining traffic and consolidating market share. Why? Because as the traffic sources consolidate Capitalism dictates that those needing that traffic such as sponsors will meet increasingly unfavorable terms. With affiliates the traffic was broken up among thousands or tens of thousands of people. You had many options. Now (or soon) you have but a handful of options and if it follows history the deal will become worse for you over time. I'm not even going to speak here about the devaluation of the product or how the loss of affiliates and competition hurts other businesses such as domainers and script writers. But it does.

2. This is great as long as you can keep increasing your traffic at a rate higher than the decline in CTR and conversions. But how long is this sustainable for you? That is the question. And the points I raised above also come into play. If a major source of your traffic suddenly wants 30% more from you and there are no other options what other choices will you have? You have to keep that volume to make it worth it for you otherwise you will lose money.

I'm just an affiliate who has been in the industry over a decade. But I used to own a small sponsor program back in the day. I don't know everything but this is honestly how I see it.

It's not just the reduction in revenue. It's also the trend. Increasingly affiliates aren't being treated fairly. They are being cheated. Trends are reduced traffic and revenues. It makes people question building full time on being an adult affiliate when other opportunities exist.

For most affiliate sites I don't believe they are sustainable. They aren't "sticky" enough. Surfers need a reason to visit and to come back (this is the key!). Sponsor content doesn't compare to what pornhub and the others offer. The crutch for the last several years has been Google traffic. But Panda and then Penguin hurt that for many affiliates so they are starved for new traffic and the old visitors aren't coming back because their sites aren't "sticky". They don't offer anything the surfer wants. The surfer wants mroe than what the old TGPs and CJ tubes full of sponsor content can provide. The biggest challenge for a porn site affiliate is to offer something of value to the surfer which makes them want to come back. If you can't do that you will be fucked when you lose your traffic sources like Google. The next biggest challenge is monetizing what you have.
