I thought they have certain limitations and guidelines of troop placement based on the "enduring freedom" agreement. The only thing that Turkey is debating over is in addition to what they've already agreed to.

There are a handful of AF and other branch installations there allll the time....We're just puffing up before the beat down...

...like one person in this thread mentioned the KEY issue at hand with Turkey, that we also had to deal with in DS I, was whether or not they'd allow us to launch 'attacks' from there.

They always allow us to do reconnaissance, and humanitarian missions, but an attack posture is totally different.



All this talk of Turkey is making me kinda miss the few months i was there last time... I actually tried to get a permanent assignment at one of the Air Bases, it was only going to be a 1 year tour.....and the food and shopping and historical things to see in Turkey are awesome :)

Actually Turkey has basically been a close friend of the USA since the Korean war with a couple of minor bumps along the way.

We're gonna need more troops in the general region and Turkey no matter what.

Whether they allow us to 'attack' from there or not, the aftermath will require quite a bit of clean up, tons of humanitarian aid missions, security forces initially, etc....


Let's not forget that after Desert Storm I, we flew a shitload of humanitarian missions dropping off food, clothing, medicine, etc to the Kurds in N. Iraq for well over a year if I recall correctly....

PS, the Kurds are the ones that Sadam doesn't mind gassing or slaughtering from time to time is why we were doing that...

And why do American troops need permission to LAND? It was my understanding that we either had a base there or permission to use their bases.
