why do you own a gun? this is why I do:
when I lived in Hollywood about 15 years ago, and "black man" entered the apartment next door to mine and murdered 2 young women with a shotgun.. I had no gun and was VERY uncomfortable.
I had no way to protect myself if the guy decided to come to my place next and I had nowhere to run. took the cops over an hour to get there. the cops job is NOT to protect people. the cops are only to enforce the law. I now have a gun available to me... and in over 15 years I've only considered getting it twice, both times in my home when being confronted with aggressive violent people. once I woken in the middle of the night when I felt the apartment shift like someone was walking and then bathroom door shut and the light went on... I got up and walked over, pulled open the door and some random guy was chopping lines on the bathroom counter... I asked him to leave... I did NOT pull my gun or even get the gun. that's my experience with guns and why I have one... you don't want a gun... fine, leave me alone with mine. :2 cents: |
I feel sorry for your neighbours that they have to live next to a guy with a gun.
I know it would make me feel VERY uncomfortable. |
I like to know that if somebody is trying to kill me that I have the tools to defend myself. I hope I never have to fire it on a person but if I do, it will be well deserved.

I would love a gun

I was listening to a radio program about the gun laws in the USA and the stats they were saying is that 90% of people who are shot in the US have or own guns

However, there are a lot of people in my area that do well. And we are targets for crime. Isolated on large pieces of property. My property is heavily wooded. If someone decided to break in, our security system will go off. If there are any county sheriff officers in the area they might get to my house in 5 minutes. Odds are there won't be and if will take them much longer to arrive. Even minutes can make a difference. I don't own an assault rifle. I have no need or desire for one. If I can't make my presence known with my pump shotgun or handgun then I don't see how an assault weapon will serve me. IF you were sneaking around my house in the dark and you heard the sound of a round being chambered in a 12g...you probably wouldn't hang around . It's a very intimidating sound. |
In my case the police response time would be less than a minute. We are a small town and I am off a main road, not far from the police. I am also in the middle of suburbia surrounded by thousands of other houses, so the odds of someone targeting me are pretty slim.
I have firearms, but not really for home defense. |

The average response time for a 911 calls is 6 minutes. In 6 minutes you could be faced with ending someone else's life who has broken into your house, or they end your life. Having a gun and being responsible about it is what makes you live longer, and one less person out there to rob or kill another person. It's like the movie "Wanted" where Angelina Jolie's character tells about the story of her father being killed and her being cut... That one person didn't do their job of getting rid of that bad person, and as a result 3 other peoples lives were ended and/or ruined because of it. Signed, Killswitch, a non-gun owner. |

so called ghettos anywere in the world are relatively safe aside from petty thievery. nobody really wants to hurt you as there is no gain or motive, they just want your silly electronic gadgets then they're out the window. i've had my house robbed twice in 2 yrs and in both instances caught the little jits in the act. last time one fled and the other hid in my shower stall, behind frosted glass of all things. when i grabbed my machete he screamed like a bitch and jumped out the 2nd floor bathroom window. loco homeowner no necesito pistolas

I said this before. When I lived in South Africa I was brought up with a massive gun culture which I thought was normal and pretty cool, when I left South Africa. It made me realise just what a fucked up and violent place I was living in and im glad to be out of it. Its so easy to pull the trigger.... |

What he said ^^^ I live in a very affluent area in Los Angeles. Very near to GrapeSoda I think. AgouraHills. There are about 5 home invasions every 6 months in the 15-18 mile radius of our house. There's this new thing that the gang bangers in bad neighborhoods 30-40 miles from the nice areas do called "Flocking". Essentially they have to drive out of the ghettos because there's nothing else left in the ghettos to steal. They attack well to do neighborhoods in unincorporated areas, where it takes a longer time for the police to get to the homes. Tie up the inhabitants, rip their houses apart, take what they want, and in some cases, sexually assault or rape the occupants. It happens. People who live in foreign countries don't know what the culture has turned into in the USA, especially in big cities. Gates don't protect you. Securities don't protect you. My Mossberg protects me and my family should it ever happen. I don't live in fear. Not one bit. I live prepared. :2 cents: |

Must suck to live in constant fear of being robbed that you need to arm yourself to feel safe. Glad I live where I live.

In South Africa our iron fence when from 2 foot tall to just under 6foot with spikes on the top, We had bars on our windows, and metal security gates on our external doors, my dad owned a gun, We even had armed responce security but it still did not stop us from being robbed 5 times and my mom from being mugged. I have a very close freind who is a SAP (police) he was off duty and always carried a gun He is now in a wheel chair because he was held up at gun point over his car after which they shot him in the back anyway. Some people now have multiple metal locked doors within thier own houses for security, which means even going to the toilet you have to unlock these doors, because guns dont stop crime. |

I'm not going to read or participate in all this foreigner rhetoric. I do not live in fear. Far from it. You foreigners are not equipped to understand. Have a good one. I've used up my 5 minutes of GFY time this week any how.
Happy Holidays to all. |
