Should i get a tablet ??

My girlfriend is struggling for things to get me this year for Christmas, and i never like asking for anything anyway.

I have most things i probably need in here. She is thinking of getting me a Tablet though, since it's one thing i don't have. She knows i don't care for Apple, so an iPad is out of the question. I haven't really looked into Tablets much, but some do look pretty decent and you can get them here for roughly £200.

I just don't know if i have much need for one, or how much use i will get out of it. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 fone and to me it looks like most the things i can do on the Tablet, i can do on that anyway. Obviously will a smaller screen etc.

Who has a Tablet here and how much do you recommend one? Or what kind in particular?

Gracias! :upsidedow

i have just ordered the Galaxy Note 10.1 after trying it out... even though the screen of my S3 is pretty big, a tablet is something totally different. and it saves me from taking a laptop with me when i travel.

we'll see how often i really use it ;)

pornguy 12-02-2012 10:15 AM

Been thinking about a galaxy tab myself. I have a motorola razor but actually could use something bigger.

Have you thought about maybe having her get you a gift like a trip to a spa with her. Massage sun relaxation together?? Most chicks dig that and its nice to get a day away some times. No sense in buying something just to buy you a gift.

BAKO 12-02-2012 10:18 AM

Ipad is the way to go the rest are fucking gay

Jakke PNG 12-02-2012 11:28 AM

I just got the Samsung's note 10.1, it's kind of nice..although I do prefer the win8 I have on my Lumia 920. IF I was to buy a tablet now, I'd probably get a win8 one.

I truly dislike apple's shit, gave my iphone to my wife too.

9in Nook HD modded to run Android 4.1 for $250

Galaxy tab all the way, or something with WIN8 if you want that direction in your hands

Wow, haven't seen you around here in a while...

It really depends on what you like to do. If you read e-books (kindle/nook style) or plan to and you like playing games and using apps you will probably find the tablet to be pretty useful. I bought one of those HP tablets about a year ago when they were down to $99 and since I have been able to load android on it. I pretty much just use the kindle app and a few game apps for it, but it makes a nice reader and I can play Monopoly or Plants Vs. Zombies while on the shitter :)

Roald 12-02-2012 01:53 PM

Get an iPad ;)

SilentKnight 12-02-2012 02:03 PM

The wife and I both have Acer Iconia A500 tabs - expanded my 16GB internal storage with a 32GB microSD chip.

At first I didn't really see the need for getting a tablet - like you said my smartphone does everything a tablet does anyways.

But having the bigger screen is great - for viewing photography on-the-go...playing the occasional game...watchin' a movie. I also loaded it up with all my MP3s and wire it into my work vehicle sound system.

Good for showing potential clients photography samples, too.

in my opinion .. Android all the way. here are some reasons: http://themesandgadgets.wordpress.co...o-buy-in-ipad/

Also i would recommend some Samsung Galaxy or a Motorola Xoom

seXXXhub 12-02-2012 02:55 PM

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is what i have, and im very happy with it, battery lifetime is about 3 days for normal use ... do that with your lappie or S2 ;)

If you are going to get a galaxy tab 2 7" , then you better hurry up. Loads of stores all sold out of them last weekend, pretty similar this weekend as well. Samsung are also doing a £50 cashback so you can get one for around £120. Well you can when they are in stock. Don't know why they keep going out of stock, there must be some big party coming up that everyone is buying things for I guess.

xenigo 12-02-2012 07:05 PM

I'd go with both an iPad Mini, and an iPad 4. They're slicker and better made devices than any of the Android options. All you have to do is pick up the Mini to know what I'm talking about.

Samsung 10.1 is a great tablet.

Never had a problem with mine and use it far more frequently than I thought I would.

Also as MaDalton said, great replacement for a laptop when you take a trip. Not so great for work, however email / surfing / checking stats = perfect :thumbsup

epitome 12-02-2012 07:54 PM

I use mine a lot but mostly just for lounging and fucking around. It's good for that. Hate typing on it so for email and stuff I just use my phone.

mineistaken 12-02-2012 08:15 PM

you don't need it, its useless except for what epitome said, go with the spa or weekend away option for those 200 pounds. Memories are better than things :)

facialfreak 12-02-2012 08:16 PM

Android is one day going to make for a very slick tablet ... but they are not quite there yet.

Once you have tried the iPad, the 'droid tablets don't just quite cut it.

I sell both Android and iPad/iPad in my bricks and mortar store, and even though my profit margins are much better on Android tablets (especially HK brand names like Onda and Ainol), I always tell my customers, if you are kinda geeky and like to tinker with things, you will probably love Android, but if you want a tablet that everything 'just works' without any tinkering, then spend the extra few bucks for an iPad.

For now anyway.

2MuchMark 12-02-2012 08:39 PM

The Apple iPads are FARRRRRR better than competing products, and I'm not just saying that because I'm an Apple fan. A Full charge will last you for monts on the shelf, weeks with regular use, or 10 hours of non-stop use. The screen is perfect and there's millions of GOOD QUALITY Apps. It is also the fastest and most response of all of the other tablets.

Just one thing : If you already have a data plan with your cellphone, Just get the Wifi model without G3 or LTE. When you need Internet on the road, just tether it to your phone for internet instead. This will save you a cool $100.

facialfreak 12-02-2012 08:58 PM

In fairness to Android tablets, if you are going to go that route (for price factor or geekiness), look for a tablet that has a "RockChip" processor and quad core GPU ...

This will give you the closest to iPad experience you can get. There are several of the Chinese/HongKong tablets that are as good (and a few even better) than Samsung and Nexus tablets, and much cheaper too! :thumbsup

The new Onda Vi30 Dual Core is a very sweet 8" tablet (I love this format - big enough, yet still compact) that gets top marks for usability, build quality, and style ... and still comes in around $179 retail. It's clad in aircraft-quality aluminum just like it's Apple cousins, and as of this Wednesday, the new Vi30 Dual Cores will ship with Jellybean 4.1.1 :thumbsup

So which ones do you recommend with quad core cpu?

By the way - why do you need so much power for a tablet?

Tablets are pressure-sensitive touchscreen technology, and a huge part of their appeal is the ability to "swipe" through screens smoothly ..

A jerky swiping motion -- or one that sticks/freezes in the center of the page momentarily -- will kill a tablet sale faster than running into a brick wall with a hardon!

Quad core GPU will also give you the best HD video playback quality - supporting up to 2180p :thumbsup

It's the same OS. If you like android phones you will like android tablets. The only difference between my phone and tablet is screen size and the ability to make calls and text.

Actually you can call/text on the galaxy note.. not the most handy of phones, but you can (if you get the SIM version).

I guess. But that begs me to ask why would I? My phone is always within arms reach... Even when I am sleeping and showering.

Jakke PNG 12-03-2012 01:00 AM

I don't use it..but I have my "sister" sim card for it, so I have the same sim for that and my phone and I had to call the telco to stop calls from being routed to the tablet's sim.. as it was annoying to have it "ring" whenever my phone rang hehe :1orglaugh

Caldo 12-03-2012 03:43 AM

You really need to check ipad, great tablet at all :thumbsup

Diomed 12-03-2012 04:58 AM

I didn't like my tablet that much at first.. Was difficult to use and took too long to do things. But now that I am used to it I use it every day and fucking love it. I do everything non work related with it, and I do a lot of simple work stuff on it too.

They grow on you, and then you love them.

Yup, and that's the main reason I made this thread. I always have my phone on me, so was wondering why I would also need a Tablet with me aswell.

Still haven't made up my mind though, haha. Wish I could just think of something else instead and make it easier...

CrocMint 12-03-2012 05:40 AM

My friend bought tablet, it was not possible to do anything useful on it, so he sold it and bought a laptop.

I didn't even bother to buy any - tried few tablets in shops, absolutely useless thing for work... and for the leisure, i prefer e-reader with eink screen.

grumpy 12-03-2012 06:24 AM

you work the internet and dont have a tablet. How do you check your stuff???????????

Ross 12-03-2012 07:57 AM

1. You know my suggestion.
2. She isn't your girlfriend, she is your fiancee.

suesheboy 12-03-2012 08:19 AM

I have an Android...Motorola Xoom...and I love it!

I use it so much you would be amazed...even for work...all the time at clients...laptop is almost never used now.

You just love talking out your ass...especially when Apple is involved. The iPad mad is old tech in a pretty shell made for idiots like you. No one disputes this, reviews on sites not focusing on Apple shit all over it. As did a few apple sites.
