US ambassador killed in Egypt
Together with 3 staffmembers through a rocket attack on the embassy
http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/news/ Scary shit...:Oh crap Rest in peace. I wonder how this will influence the elections. |
democracy ???
I was thinking they removed bad guy's... /ironic egypt or libya ??? |
Because of a film? No. 9/11
|
It is Libya not Egypt.
|
Most media is saying it's because of a film.
9/11 Why is the press spinning that? |
You mean libya - an ambassador (seems unclear how high an official, conflicting reports) to libya was killed in benghazi.
It was a rocket attack on their car - a paramilitary action, not a mob. They were driving to the embassy, where one staff member had been reported killed in a mob attack, when they were ambushed. So far I havn't heard of deaths in egypt. The embassy was overrun, at least partially. There were early reports of a death in egypt but that report is no longer being spread, it may be confusion with the death in libya. Interesting situation. One would think that embassies were better protected. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/...88B0EI20120912 Quote:

and idiots apologize for these monkeys. we live in countries where we can mock Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and any other religion. and we allow foreigners the same free speech.
should probably drop a small nuke on the Middle East - would settle them down. if they started up again, drop another one. |

It seems the film somehow became common knowledge in the middle east. gee, I wonder how. Looks like there was a coordinated paramilitary component to the riots. |
hmm...this is probably not going to end well.
|
4 dead.
Crazy.. |
The film wasn't made by Terry Jones but was being promoted by him. I read somewhere a koran burning was supposed to happen, unclear exactly when.

I wonder if Americans will protest outside the Libyan embassy in Washington? Doubtful.

They were escaping from the embassy - and it does seem to have been THE ambassador to libya.
We always knew the islamist rightwing was going to try to cause unrest, after the strongmen were killed. It's a very interesting political puzzle - but we are at a huge disadvantage in the middle east now, what with democracy. All of our pocket dictators are getting rubbed out - so the military solution we used to have - get the local warlord to kill a few hundred, and throw a few thousand into the torture chambers - isn't an option any more. The colonels are wargaming like hell this morning, and the generals are scrambling to cya over the intelligence failure. |

Cmon you muslim haters, get out there and burn those korans. |

you have to keep in mind we are close to fucked as far as military options are concerned. in theory you can do all kinds of things militarily, in practice, because of the oil, and the military logistics and strategic disasters of iraq and afghanistan, we are kinda just standing there bent over with our pants down, when it comes to irregular and swarm warfare like this. the ideal military response would have been immediate and overwhelming local defense - but we failed at that. now our best bet is to get a return of the mobs so we get a second chance at overwhelming defense. kill a few hundred in what is clearly justifiable self defense. the mobs WANT us to cut diplomatic ties and funding of the local governments - so the stabdard diplomatic strategies just play into the goals of the local islamist chiefs. |
"smoke inhalation" means he burned to death, incidentally.

lol - gingrinch just said if romney were president he would be "outraged" and "offended" at egypt and libya.

you know, every weapons manufactiurer in teh world is waking up this morning and saying to themselves - "RIGHT! In the future every army is going to need massive force multiplication anti-mob weaponry! And robots, anti-mob robots! We are going to make FUCKING BILLIONS!!!".
It really is a fascinating miltary problem. What you need are berserker anti-mob robots, like metal monstars kept in a cave under an embassy, that can be activated for anti-personal attacks against irregulars. Cool when you think about it. Makes me want to write a short story about the things. Then of course the same technology will be used to kill americans when they finally grow a pair and try to rebel against wall street. Way cool. |
Fuck religion.
|
The egyptian thing seems to be pretty minor in hindsight. Not an overrun, just a mob, and young guys climbing on top of the embassy to rip down flags.

Normally, I am not an isolationist but if they (the Islamists) want to behave like throwbacks to 1000 AD let them be responsible for their country's isolation from the modern world. |

I thought Gaddafi was a " killing his own people " type of guy... not killing embassy staffers... The "rebels" were the religious zealots that Gaddafi was containing/repressing ( now you see why ? ) Benghazi IS the strong hold of those righteous rebels, so rapidly embraced by clueless american " foreign policy " experts... Nice spin from this guy .... |

I bet every fucking idiot here complaining about this was all for us supporting these loonies when Ghadaffi was in charge. Nobody can say we weren't warned. Support Islamists, as we did, and this is the result. It's not like it happens every time or anything.
And still we continue supporting the Islamist terrorists in Syria. At some point you have to ask yourself who benefits from us building up these nutcases? |
That's some shit. They've broken into one Embassy and killed the ambassador to the Embassy in Libya.

Very sad

I used to watch Al Jazeera and others and listen to people from the Middle East calling everyone in the USA and Western Nations, "Christian Crusaders" "the Crusaders" in reference to Middle East policy/war and so on and kinda laugh and think "wow, what a primitive, shortsighted and wholly inaccurate view of things".
Then I read the idiocy in places like this forum where everyone simply refers to "Muslims", "Islamists" etc maligning well over a billion and a 1/2 people for the actions and behavior of what is an incalculably small % of that group. It is then, that I usually find myself forced to wonder which side is the most ignorant. Even funnier, who here has actually read the Qu'ran? Who has the slightest idea what it even contains, what it says, its meaning? Who here has read the other holy books of Islam? I have a copy next to my bed. Read it many times. Read the Old Testament and New Testament many many times. Not because the English Translation of the Qu'ran reads as beautifully as it does in Arabic, or the English Translations of the Bible are overly poetic, but because these books have, more than any other single factor played the largest role in shaping the world around us. They are profound enough in their impact on the world around us that any sensible person, should want to understood them. They are the foundation, the moral codes and the rules by which many (namely, the silent majority) live their lives - whether you think it's silly or not. These discussions of religion are always driven by ignorance and those who are the most outspoken and most obnoxious are usually, without exception, the most ignorant of the views and beliefs they are making fun of. |
^ Very good post. Hope you enjoy your stay in Cuba though. :winkwink:
And to be fair, "Islamists" I assume to mean the extremist loons, not every normal Muslim. |

All religious discussion aside, this is the root of the problem. You are entitled to your opinion but calling BILLIONS of people idiots for their beliefs, be it Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism etc etc etc, isn't exactly a foundation for peace and prosperity. Further, a simple fact of reason and logic is that you cannot disprove the existence of God. On that basis alone, a rational and logical person would at least accept the possibility or accept that its possible that God (or a Creator) exists. I have a business with amazing members. The only way I know which are Muslim besides those very few that wear head scarves, is they disappear during Ramadan. |
