Because Zack is too busy trolling competitors on web forums instead of taking proper care of his clients.

One wise guy once said "I rather put my balls in between a drawer and slam them until I achieve turning a calculator into a web server rather than signing up for Webair ever again" owh well.. :upsidedow

Reply from Zak on Skype basically told me to go fuck myself and could care less how long the server is down for.

Never seen anything like this before. BTW this server alone is over $1k+ a month.

We've had exactly the same attitude from him. He's a grade A asshole who doesn't give a single fuck about clients.

If it wasn't for his senior tech Manu keeping things afloat, I reckon that YellowFiber would have been long gone.

AdultEUhost 08-27-2012 02:53 PM

I never actually heard complaints about Zack to be honest.
But if you are serious about moving, give me a shout on icq or skype

icymelon 08-27-2012 02:59 PM

and add good support. less than 24 hour response time

I'm sorry that cannot grasp or understand the technical problems with your machine, but you see when you have ~6tb of data on a single machine and you have a file system error, there is a program that is called "fsck" that is required to run to fix this problem.

The more data you have the longer it takes. I love the fact that you bring this to the forums. You were warned when this happened previously that by having so much data on a single machine you are vulnerable to these problems. You really should of took the advice and gotten a second box for replication purposes.

I'm not going to get into very much more detail other than.. you have a lot of data and you lack the understanding of what a file system check is.

Thanks for jumping to conclusions while we are talking on skype and have not came up with a solution yet. See much like many other people we get things resolved then figure out what to do, not jump around 20 different directions.

I'd rather not complain about anyone. It's not my style. Anyone who knows me know this. I want sites up and not have to worry about a server being down while I'm sleeping. Not having to notify a host when there are problems. It's the host's job to know first and be proactive on a fully managed server. Though my 11,000+ posts and it's EXTREME rare I call anyone out. And over the last 8 years on GFY have been plenty who have owned me $$$$ or flaked on something or another.

Is that you Zak?

You let me know what solution there is to NOT have that server down for 6+ hours. I'm game. I've never seen a box down for that period of time. Anyone else?

More/different hardware?

I've NEVER had a problem spending money for something necessary but your attitude on this is terrible. My business is online, every site is my lifeblood. I'm a customer that is having a horrible experience with your product.

your acting like an idiot :2 cents::2 cents::2 cents:

ask anyone that has a clue on how long a fsck takes on 6tb of data then come back to the thread.

my guess is you have already been told that restoring 6tb of data will take longer then waiting for the fsck to finish :2 cents::2 cents:

It's a technician responsibility to take care of the server, and come up with prevention in case shit hit's the fan as an account grows. Webmasters don't need to know jack-shit about servers as it's not their field of expertise. The downtime and no prevention, backup plan or proper solution is straight up bullshit. :2 cents:

Customer has backups, we can perform a full bare metal restore and restore their server to new equipment, that isn't the problem. The problem is the large amount of data being restored if we needed to would take.. many many hours to restore... So yes everything is in place for hardware failures etc, there is a hard choice to make and to figure out what will take less time to resolve, letting a server finish its simple check desk routine .. or restore it.. in this case.. letting it finish its check disk was the optimal solution..

And as I write this the customers server is back online and functioning just fine.

For those of you who don't know what fsck is, it is a utility short for file system check, it checks the drive for bad sectors, bad inodes, bad mappings to inodes etc. The slower the drives and greater amount of data you have the longer this process takes, its a 5 step process. In specific situations the linux operating system _forces_ you to do this. This is due to a file system being journalized.

Sure there are alternative file systems that do not have journalized file systems like ext3/4 suchs as riserFS or XFS. but frankly those are a bit inferior for day to day operation and have their own specific uses.

Brad Mitchell 08-27-2012 04:28 PM

Fsck on a 6tb raid volume takes a lot of time but less time than restoring that size volume. Statistically these things do happen and aren't necessarily negligent on your hosts part, either. The only solution to have you up rapidly would be if you bought an identical second server that was being regularly sync'd. Most small and medium sized clients don't duplicate their infrastructure for the rare occurrence that a file system integrity problem happens. In this instance, perhaps at an annual cost of another 5k or so. When your system (hopefully) comes up later, ask yourself if it would be worth the extra spend and if so, order a second server. I know your host understands your frustration, these things are awful, but I don't personally think its appropriate to publicly bash them for the time it takes Fsck to complete if they explained what was going on fully. Best of luck

Brad

They use new servers that are rock solid and run them smoothly so you will be stable 24/7

Never had a problem with Zak or my servers. I usually take his advice on what I need to do with more servers etc. He has actually helped me cut down the costs, not a lot of companies would do that. I spend up to $4k a month with him and couldn't be happier.

Manu rocks as well.
