He has done time before for card fraud, 2 years i think. My guess is he will do less then 1 year before he pays the right people to let him go

He got probation for the credit card fraud. They said he is looking at a max of 55 years for this case. They will seize much of his assets.
The guys a fucking crook max but from reading about him he's obviously very bright, large and imposing at 6'7'' towers over my 6'2'' frame, and a very savvy business man. He seems like a fun guy too.
Like anything if you read this is a pattern of behavior, he got caught when he was young for flashing his gig online of selling pirated software on a local media outlet... BAM they got him.
Same thing here, granted the investigation probably started long before the megaupload video etc, but that probably instigated and aggravated several people into action and expedited some things.

The same thing every defendant offers - a guilty plea. Courts can be unpredictable and the trial would certainly be expensive, so the prosecution would like to avoid that by making a plea deal.

Considering I go nuts spending two HOURS sitting at the DMV, if they actually serve two to five years that seems like a long time.

I found it interesting that they deleted any files that didn't get a enough downloads. They pretty much eliminates any argument that the service even COULD be used for backup, accessing your legally purchased content from another service, etc. Since any file that didn't get traffic got deleted, the service would pretty much be useful only for popular media.

She was convicted of armed robbery and is at Leath Women's Corrections in SC. She moved away and got caught up with the wrong crowd and ended up making a huge mistake. You're right though, she can't go outside whenever she wants and freedom is taken away...and that's the big thing. Still, I would say she has some pretty good luxuries there for a maximum security prison...and this megaupload guy will end up at some low minimum security prison where he will have it pretty easy considering.

Where he is truly screwed is that this is likely to be a case where the government is trying to set precedent. Plea bargains and settlements do not have the lasting impact on case law that a trial judgement will have. This case was handpicked as on the government is sure it can win and they will likely take it all the way to tril to get the case law established as a tool to be used in future anti piracy actions against other entities.

I was just looking some stuff up and it looks like the average person convicted of racketeering serves around 48 months in the federal pen. Since it is federal time they will likely serve all or just about all of it.

It that is still accurate (the numbers were from a few years ago) would bet if convicted of all charges he will get somewhere between 4-8 years in the fed and be hit with massive fines.

72 years if he doesn't sign up for Premium sentencing. If he does choose to upgrade, he could be out in less than a year.
