Caught my neighbor taunting my dogs
So today I come home from my office and let my dogs out back. They bolted to the side of the house and are going absolutely nuts. I normally don't go back on that side because there is a big tree between the fence and the house. So I make my way back there and my german pincher/beagle looks like he's about to tear someones face off. I've NEVER seen him like that before.
I walk up to him and grab his collar and see through a gap in the fence, my neighbor wearing a face mask, face inches away from the hole, shaking the fence while growling. He was so caught up in the moment that he didn't realize that I was standing there. He finally looks up and walks away. My wife comes home and I look out the front door and see the bastard cleaning leaves in the front of his house. I tell my wife what happens and that I'm going to confront him. I go in front of his house, get his attention and he comes over to me. I simply say, "Hi - if you have a problem with my dogs or anything else concerning my property or my family, please feel free to come knock on my door and let me know. He said, "Okay." I then ask him if he feels like things are so bad that he can't come talk to his neighbor. He starts mumbling and I ask how old he is, he says he's 83 years old. Then I ask, "Don't you think in the 83 years of your life, you might have learned that it's okay to be friendly to your neighbors?" Anyway - the old man told me he was very embarrassed that I caught him doing it and that now that I've caught him doing it, he realizes that it was a childish thing to do. He called animal control on us when we first moved in because my dog was barking one afternoon, not breaking any city ordnance. Now that I see what he was doing, it makes me think that he's been doing it a lot more, making my dog look/act aggressive. I fear that if my dog gets out and sees him, he's going to bite his fucking face off. Sorry for the rant, but what would you guys do? |
Leave the old man alone, he's just having some fun
|
Sounds like a good conversation you had. I don't know if I would have handled it as well as you did. Hopefully he's ashamed of himself enough that he'll stop.
That said, I'm a big fan of security cameras with motion detection. Of course I'm kind of a fan of security anything. That's kind of my thing. |
sounds like he's about to go postal on you.
|
It seems to be straightened out, I doubt he will bother them anymore since he got busted.
|
While the situation at hand might not be so amusing to you, I'd be pretty happy if at 83 years old I am light hearted enough to troll my neighbor's dogs wearing a face mask.
|
Give him a taste of his own medicine.

Fun or not, people shouldn't do that, especially to dogs. My dog, for instance, is very friendly, people person and loving. Now that this old man has taunted him, my dog probably sees him as a threat now.
What if my dog got out, saw the old man and attacked him? It pisses me off because you hear of these types of stories all the time, where the friendly dog attacks a kid. The conversation I had with him was necessary. It probably would have been a different conversation if he wasn't so old. I just brought it up again to my wife and told her that I feel bad in a way because it was like I was scolding one of my kids... She said he's probably just feeling isolated, hermit-like; a lot of older folks get that way. |
same thing happened to a friend of mine. had to put the dog down.

Put on a mask and go peep in his windows. That will teach the old bastard.

I guess the thing that's bugging me the most is that instead of coming and talking to me, he has now become "that neighbor". It's important to know and trust your neighbor. |

Make the gap larger so doggy can get him and chew on his wrinkly old sack

I HATE dogs that bark all day while the owner is either gone or oblivious to the noise. Breaking any city ordnance or not no one wants to hear a dog endlessly barking. I feel sorry for your neighbors.

Call the police, hes prob a pedo.

Our dogs stay inside unless they need to go out and do their business, out for a walk or at the park; things of that sort. Now, they do bark, but not uncontrollably or all day. When we let them out, if they start barking, we get them inside. There are dogs all over my neighborhood, it's just an issue with my neighbor being a flat out disgruntled old man for whatever reason it may be. While talking with him, I did say that my dogs bark, they're dogs, they do that. I even said that I know for a fact that they don't bark excessively or in the middle of the night. His reply was, "God I hope not!" So I know that when he called animal control when we moved in, it was complete BS simply from the fact that they don't bark obnoxiously unless something is wrong. For me, it's about having neighbors who don't know how to be neighborly. |
I love how you all 'Pussy Foot' around... If I caught my neighbour doing that, they would find a mysterious fire had started in their house during the middle of the night...
Fuckem... |
So if he comes to my door now to complain about something, I should just punch him in his dentures?

Your dogs obviously barked and bothered him to the point he felt he had to do something about it, and you're saying he doesnt know how to be neighborly? You remind me of my neighbor who lets their fucking 8 year old scream for hours outside and then says 'thats what kids do'. |

He admitted to me that he was wrong in doing something like that, it was a childish thing to do and that he is very embarrassed. When I say, "dogs bark, that's what they do", I'm not talking about uncontrollably. My dogs bark to make their presence known. If someone comes onto the property that shouldn't be there or in this case, the old man was at the fence peeking through a hole, they will go nuts. That's exactly what I want them to do. So for me to say he doesn't know how to be neighborly, I still stand by that. What is so hard about going to your neighbor and talking to them about something that might be bothering them? Heck, he might just hate dogs and not be happy that someone moved in next door to him that has one. Anything is possible, but for them to be barking uncontrollably or even hours at a time... doesn't happen. |

That's terrible. I might not have reacted with as much civility as you did.
I have my suspicions that the cleaning lady has been harrassing my dog while he's in his crate. I'm going to set up a cam to see what she does when I'm not at home. |

I was talking with an old dude the other day(at the dog park) who was telling me a story about how his dog got out of the house, and he beat the living shit out of him when he finally found him. I was pretty mortified listening to this story, but I realize that's the way that generation is. |

Always wondered what Paul Markham did when he's not on GFY, now I know.
|
You should tell the old dipshit that he'll be dead soon, and then you'll let your dogs piss and shit on his grave.
