I'm amazed at the number of people that don't get you're, your, where, were, they're there...

I get when you're a kid and you don't get it. But as an adult, so many people still say your instead of "you're"

-> Your going to the store?
-> Their are lots of people that like blue.

I mean WTF?? Did they not get out of grade school?

CaptainHowdy 01-22-2011 06:26 AM

The most atrocious one is Charlie Sheen's "mite" (as in "might")...

Caligari 01-22-2011 06:30 AM

Your rite, i dont know were there learning english;)

bignasty 01-22-2011 06:34 AM

You're right, it is surprising how many don't get it. What annoys me though is when people use of, like "could of" that should be "could have".

bl4h 01-22-2011 06:40 AM

no one took grade school seriously. unless your parents were Chinese

2intense 01-22-2011 07:14 AM

Phoenix 01-22-2011 08:49 AM

for many people here english is their second language

camperjohn64 01-22-2011 09:12 AM

What got this going, is I saw on iTunes, a song that was titled "You where there", and they were singing happily, "You were there". Even the ID3 Tag was written "You where there"

you can't "say" an apostraphe :) you can write one , but speaking it is rather difficult.

Either way unless it's in print, like a book or newspaper , it's just ease of use.

p.s. worrying about it is silly , you waste your time worrying about it , while the "uneducated" people are off having fun getting laid.. what would you rather do , get laid or write "you're" properly ?

According to the NYT, "it's" instead of "its" is now kinda accepted. I still find it awful, but it happens to me all the time too.

Zorgman 01-22-2011 09:46 AM

And yet you still understand them. :)

I remember seeing this study done that showed you can still read when letters are mixed around in each word.

BFT3K 01-22-2011 09:49 AM

Don't forget: know and no, and two, too, and to.

The Duck 01-22-2011 09:52 AM

I just got this in the last couple of years but English is my second language so it is okay.

I think most english speaking people get it but simply do not take the time to type it correctly on a BB.

Tell me about it! This is one of my biggest pet peeves. I see so many people misuse "your" properly on a daily basis. As you said, it's one thing to be a little kid and get it wrong. But as an adult? Come on. Whenever I call people out on their misuse of it they always say the same thing. "I was, uh, just typing fast is all." The reality is they don't know the difference which is why they write it wrong every single time. It only takes .02 seconds use the correct form. America's educational system is a joke.

The sad thing is, I talk to a person from Germany on a daily basis and their english is better than most Americans. English isn't even their first language but they still grasp the concept of "your" and "you're" better than most people I know. It says a lot about our country.

BSleazy 01-22-2011 01:55 PM

I know how to use them correctly but a lot of the time I don't when I'm just typing real fast chatting or whatever.

Mr Happy 01-22-2011 02:52 PM

Has anyone ever heard of shorthand writing? No, I did not think so.

I see people in GFY trying to make themselves look far superior than they actualy are.

Here is my original qoute:
"If you were half as smart as you thought you are, you would be one smart mother fucker."

I have read many novels where its done in shorthand, and not proper gramar.
So will any of you go to publishers and inform they are un educated?

Nobody on UK tv now says "think" or "thing".

It's always "fink" or "fing".

VERY annoying...

95% sure he knows how to spell it. charlie is an eternal adolescent and at the forefront of the new languages being created at the frontiers of the tech/human coevolution.

"The modern Aeon of Horus, is portrayed as a time of self-realization as well as a growing interest in all things spiritual, and is considered to be dominated by the principle of the child. The Word of its Law is Thelema (will), which is complimented by Agape (love), and its formula is Abrahadabra. Individuality and finding the individual's True Will are the dominant aspects; its formula is that of growth, in consciousness and love, toward self-realization."

I wouldn't fuck someone that couldn't differentiate your and you're.
