Anybody else really not feeling the holiday season?

It is still early days, I know but I feel my scrooge coming on this year. It may even actually be a white Christmas here this year and I still can't really get into the swing. At least I have actually managed to get gifts purchased and wrapped. I think that is about all the effort I feel like putting forth at the moment.

Any other scrooges this year?

PornMD 12-15-2010 02:30 AM

Well when members of my family lay out basically 5 days of activities for me for this year when not too long ago some of them were saying they're all too broke to have a Christmas this year...ugh. I love 'em all but too much in too short a time. :/

Oh, and I'm supposed to make something homemade for a gift exchange for one of them. Wonder how they'll like Fart in a Jar.

Sarah_Jayne 12-15-2010 02:37 AM

lol @ fart in a jar.

We have friends and their kids arriving on Friday to stay until New Year. That sounded like a good idea when we decided to do it.

Lilit 12-15-2010 02:43 AM

Same for me, it's frosty and snowy here, the city has been nicely decorated but I can't get in holiday mood. Maybe you're right and it's still too early... We'll see

Chosen 12-15-2010 03:21 AM

I'm feeling the holiday season :)

selena 12-15-2010 04:07 AM

I am a scrooge all years. I don't like the demands that our culture tries to force on me about what the holidays "should" be, and I hate the cold.

CDSmith 12-15-2010 05:40 AM

I'm feeling it a little bit more than last year, I'll say that much at least.

I won't be heading to any malls or fighting through crowds of mindless Christmas shoppers and endless checkout lines and cutthroat drivers racing to do last minute shopping they should have done months ago.

Nosir, not me.

Best time to do your Christmas shopping: August.

Zuzana Designs 12-15-2010 05:48 AM

I just got my tree yesterday and I'm off to get a little shopping in today. I have been flying between North Carolina and Tennessee the last few months so it doesn’t feel like the holidays to me yet. Hopefully once I get the tree decorated today and get some shopping done I will be in the holiday spirit. It’s damn 10 outside and has been windy as shit. I really hate the cold so that’s not helping make me fell cheerful.

Altwebdesign 12-15-2010 06:16 AM

never really cared for it. .

Sarah_Jayne 12-15-2010 06:37 AM

My birthday is the 20th and I always have the problem of not really getting into it full force until after then. This year though I don't even really feel up for the birthday part.

Baking my rum cakes this weekend though. So, maybe that will get the mood going a bit more.

Music is the key. You know that! Let's get you started.

Caligari 12-15-2010 06:42 AM

i never feel the "holiday season." its a load of crap really. buy a bunch of presents for people you don't even like (including relatives) who end up re-gifting half of it because they don't like it because you know they won't like it.

only 2 holidays i feel are Halloween (not even a holiday which is amazing) and Mardi Gras in the States.

Kiopa_Matt 12-15-2010 06:43 AM

It's +30C every day, and I'm surrounded with Buddhists, so nope, can't say I'm feeling the holiday season.

I am right there with you except I kind like the cold much more than stifling heat. The focus on unabated consumerism disappoints me every year.

Spunky 12-15-2010 06:52 AM

I tend to drink more around this time of the season

Brujah 12-15-2010 06:56 AM

Can't forget this one either Sarah!

CurrentlySober 12-15-2010 07:00 AM

One of the only songs of the season I actually like.

I actually own that one. I can't remember why but I think it was because it was against a really crap song for Christmas #1. So, I bought it on vinyl which was great apart from the fact that I had no way to play it.

Ross 12-15-2010 08:20 AM

I normally don't get in the mood till around December 22nd or 23rd. This year tho I am in the mood - more so for my girlfriend. Its our first Christmas away from home, even living abroad we went back home for Christmas but not this year. So couple weeks ago I put lights round the house, some decorations in the garden and she put the tree up. Need to do all I can to make sure she has a good Christmas this year.

I thought that too, then I realized I just drink a lot...all the time...

ottopottomouse 12-15-2010 09:20 AM

The weather has been so shit it has really cut the number of overdecorated houses here as nobody has wanted to be up a ladder hanging them.

Thats awesome, Ross! Have a really great one!

I'm doing the holidays as usual. Got the tree up and decorated etc. Few christmas items around the house. Already have shoveled 4 ft of snow this year and today there's 8 inches more awaiting the blade of my shovel.

You know what? I really wouldnt mind decorating a palm tree one year.

So fuck the holiday spirit and Bah humbug motherfuckers! :winkwink:

If Jesus doesn't like the holiday we are all fucked.

its hard for me this year. I've been working a LOT and will be up until xmas eve so my time is limited to get shopping done and the days seem to be flying by

cherrylula 12-15-2010 10:24 AM

Yes. I have resisted making a thread titled "Fuck Xmas" because I don't want to look like an asshole. :1orglaugh

But since you made one, I'll say it. Fuck Xmas. :1orglaugh

I have done zero so far, but about to figure out gifting in the next few days. ugh. lol

Rochard 12-15-2010 11:06 AM

I've never been a huge fan of Christmas. I left home at age 16 and never returned for Christmas. I ended up on the West Coast, and returning home for Christmas just wasn't an option when I was younger - I had to work multiple jobs to keep my head above water, couldn't afford to fly home, and surely couldn't afford the time off from work. So I never returned home.

My father died when I was a baby, and my mother and step-father divorced years ago. I haven't talked to my step father in ages, and my mother recently decided that she doesn't like my wife (because she doesn't have enough class?) and has no interest in being a part of my life (or her only granddaughter's life).

Thus, when I was younger Christmas was always spent at a girlfriend's parent's house, and once I got married it was always spent with the in-laws. In-laws and the extended family is awesome, but at the end of the day it's not my flesh and blood. Christmas these days is all about my ten year old daughter, and while that's great it's also a bit lacking for me.

HandballJim 12-15-2010 11:38 AM

I am not feeling it this year since I am moving and have way to much on my mind.

quiet 12-15-2010 12:22 PM
