Is The Republican Party DEAD?

Seriously?

Their entire agenda is about religion and censorship

Democrats are all over the place

Don't we need a legitimate third party?

L-Pink 05-14-2010 01:18 PM

What you're describing aren't mainstream republicans, they're right-wingers.

Coup 05-14-2010 01:23 PM

I'm enjoying the the party splitting into tea baggers and general run of the mill conservative kooks

BobG 05-14-2010 01:25 PM

Arizona is a rally cry.

Exactly. It's the extremest on ALL sides that are getting all the attention and causing the polarization between all parties. Reality is and has always been, somewhere in the middle. :2 cents:

A rally cry? From republicans, about immigration reform? Is that what the news is spewing out across the nation? That's crazy talk... no sides down here on this issue, 65% support it the other 35% are illegals.

I would love for you to name a left wing republican.

Ask this question again after the elections in November when there is a change in who controls the house and senate.

I didn't mean it in a negative way. Just as to say, partisan or non-partisan, the hard line they are taking on immigration and don't forget ethnic studies, serves well to rally the base nationwide. Don't think that they don't know that too? The law passed against ethnic studies wasn't really much of a change at all, seemed like maybe a bit of political posturing there... as you said, November is coming up.

brentbacardi 05-14-2010 02:22 PM

Republicans and democrats, imo they are almost exactly the same. They both fuck our economy by spending too much (dems spend more with no tax cuts, republicans spend too much but not as much as dems and and then adding tax cuts on top of it). They fight over gay rights and other BS bullshit that the government should HAVE NO SAY OVER! and if you ever watch CSPAN they just bullshit and all always follow party lines 99.999% of the time and don't accomplish anything....

So yeah if you mean the party system is dead, RIGHT ON!

That's hard for me to even consider for more than a few seconds. They're all screwballs.

kane 05-14-2010 02:25 PM

They are not dead yet, but they are dying off and they know it. There was an article a few months back that talked about how the Latino and black populations in this country will increases 300-400% over the next 12-15 years. During that same time the white population will stay around the same. Almost all blacks and Latinos vote democrat so the democrats are going to see their base triple or quadruple in size while the republican base stays about the same.

This doesn't mean republicans won't win elections. they can still win the white house because that race eventually comes down to the person for a lot of people, not the party. But it will get harder and harder for the republicans to win a majority in the house or senate.

If the democrats figure out a way to help make the 30+ million illegals in this country legal (which ultimately is their goal) they can add those people to the base as well.

We are seeing the republican party try to reach out to these people, but I don't think it is because they have a genuine interest in bringing them into the fold, the simply need their votes or they could see their party as they know become one that has little power in this country.

She could win the nomination (it would be a stretch, but she could do it) but she would get destroyed in the general election.

There are moderate Republicans...and from the right wing Republican's view point...I suspect they would consider them to be left wingers.
