Does your bank bust your balls too?
WTF?
i went to my GODDAM FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT bank today and got the usual "criminal" treatment, even though i have had that account since 1990... so after about 15 minutes of phoning around another branch and their hub they reluctantly agreed to accept my deposit without freezing the funds... the kicker was when they said the problem was that the cheque was for "a large amount"... it was for C$4600... like what planet do they live on? this type of shit happens every two weeks and there's nothing i can do about it... so i roll up my sleeves and do battle with these assholes each time. and for the record, i also have an un-used line of credit with them and a substantial amount in my chequing account... so i wanna know how the rest of you clear your cheques... do they give you the "drug dealer" type of service also? i'm sure lots of you deposit huge-ass cheques that make mine look like a day's pay, so lemme know your secrets... cheers. |
Never had that problem before....

Open an account with Wachovia, or with a small local bank. Some banks are worthless...bank of america blows a cock.
|
so just 3000 USD? not really enough to turn heads really, maybee 30,000....... but then again you are from montreal :winkwink:
|
I use a credit union...Same second funds...As soon as they punch it in that mainframe of theirs, it's mine to use however I please...No holding of funds, ever...Gawd I love credit unions =)
|
I got that run around with Royal Bank. I then told them to close all my business, personal, RRSP, mutual funds, visa accounts, line of credit etc. I then got to talk to the divisional VP (fancy word for local bigshot) of that branch and I vented the BS runaround that Royal has been given me about freezing USD checks for 30 days.
Magically, he said that would be reduced to 3 days if I kept my business with them. To this day, all service fees have disappeared and all my funds clear in 3 days. Scare your bank, they like screwing customers when they get a chance. They know there's other banks that will take their business away from them if you give them reason to. WG |

Yeah, I have banked with B of A for years and I have still had them hold $800 checks before, even when my account was larger than the check I was depositing.
I agree with the others.. I have a commercial account at a small local bank and they never give me shit. |

and yeah montreal is a bit of a 3rd world city... but the only reason i'm still here is cuz of the great pussy.... LOL |
hmmm... when I deposite I get a cute smile from some hot chick saying "Oh let me guess, depositing $3000+ "? :Graucho
but i must say one old bitch hates me when I come to her.... :BangBang: |
I've cashed big checks at small farmers type banks, they just called up the check owner & bingo...cash in hand.

maybe next time i go in to the branch, i'll bring a gun... not to rob it but just to get a little service! i guess threatening them with the removal of my entire buisiness with them may work... it'd be a real pain in the ass if they call my bluff tho... |
I use the smallest bank on this planet if you live in NY and want to know the name hit me up on ICQ the service is AWESOME

we have more than 5 banks to choose from. TD, Bank of Mtl, Nat Bank, RBC, Laurentian, Scotia, CIBC, Desjardins, HSBC. Plus credit unions in the west, plus little banks like NBG (Nat Bank of Greece) etc. As for them questioning a $4200 cheque... when someone tries to pull fraud on a bank, they usually attempt to cash phony cheques between $1k and 5k. There's been a large increase in fraudulent cheques over the past few years, so banks have had to increase their internal security, and make sure your cheque is a valid one. Want less trouble? Go to your home branch where they know you. At 15, I was cashing cheques from xpics and ezgreen every month and my home branch never said a thing |

talk about making your deposit... hehehehe |

And psyko514 is right, make sure you go to the branch where your account is at, and insist on the hot girl... I do :Graucho WG |
I have accounts at HSBC and Scotiabank. HSBC is a pain to deal with, everytime I go in there they give me a hard time about proving my identity. I feel like they're not going to be satisfied until they draw blood for a DNA test. Scotiabank on the other hand is much better. I always go to the same branch so that might be part of it.

my main account is CIBC but when i moved I was really close to a bank of montreal so I was putting cheques in there, its a real pain in the ass though, they hit you with soo many bullshit charges from using your card to "converting" the exchange rate....... never had any of that at cibc
|
my company account at one of the major banks in the US does that, I hate them
but my personal account at the other major US bank doesn't try another bank.....I'm about to move the biz account shortly.... you are the customer, remember that, fuck them there should be a solution that makes you happy or take your money elsewhere |
You're going about it all wrong Easton. And I thought you would've known better, a guy in your position.
The bank lady begins to treat you like a criminal, you offer to give her a facial. Say you'll even use it as content on your site. Problem solved. |
use money mart... I pay 3 bucks on the hundred to not deal with banks.. no account since 99
I stopped using banks for the same thing you are talking about.. I went into the same bank 2 days in a row , both days with "government" chegues 'gst and heating bonus the first day I explained to the bitch , that I had lost my wallet and she would have to call my branch to get my name card. but then tell her after that I am comming back the next day , so can she keep the card.. she says no , and the next day I have to go through this agian . but this time I lost my cool... BIGTIME , I was ready to pull the little hahahaha over the desk , goddamn government cheque and I get a hassle WTF in the end I never got the last chegue cashed . and havent used a bank since |

Bank of America for me for the most part. Only in the first months of doing biz back in '95 and '96. Once I had funds in my account and a history, no problems.. they stumble over themselves at times.
|
Dude, it's all about wire transfers.
|
banks know they got you by the shorthairs.
i fucking hate banks mine sucks ass. but i never had a problem like that. |
I had the same problem with a large bank years back. They would change the amount of time my holds were, basically every time I brought in my weeks checks. Finally I got fed up and started an account at a smaller credit union. They've been great so far, I have no holds whatsoever on anything under $10,000, and a 5 day hold on anything over 10k. :thumbsup

a good banking relationship is pretty awesome.
we use bank of america and they not only treat me like a god when i actually go into the branch but they have offered us merchant accounts, lines of credit etc.. etc.. largely i think that there is a certain *level* that if you're below it they dont worry about fraud.. and if you're way above it and have used them for years they dont suspect you. id also be willing to bet that it has something to do with how you deposit funds... do you deposit 50 checks at once with 3 computer printed deposit slips? or do you come in with a single $3000 check? just a thought. |
If you are with a large well known bank and you are starting to sock away some bucks you need to get hooked up with their private banking department to get first class treatment and not have to deal with the teller bullshit.
In LA, we used to use First LA Bank. They were the best and focused on the entertainment industry so they were cool to deal with and used to people walking in to deposit 6 and 7 figure checks. We had some big 900 number checks and they would give us next day clearance on them, though I imagine since they were from Sprint and AT&T, they knew they would clear. :) Actually had one bank in LA, turn me down for opening an account because of the adult entertainment association. I handed the new accounts manager a $60,000.00 check to open with. She started asking what I did for a living since I was in my early 30's and that's a big number for an initial deposit at that age, and I decided not to hide my occupation and said I was in the phone sex business. She must have been a real religious zeolot cause she gave me the nastiest look of discust and tossed me back the $60K check and said I'm sorry we don't do business with pimps and pornographers. Of course I promptly stood up and told her to GFY and walked out giving her the finger. B of A, I've used on and off and you're just a number there unless you've got a whale account in the 8 figure range. In Florida, I've been with First Union which is good or bad depending on the branch and just got acquired by Wachovia, so I don't know what that'll be like. You can operate pretty well outside the banking industry now. It costs a bit, but you don't have the bullshit to deal with and you know exactly where your money is at all times. I really recommend small banks over big ones. You can really stand out and get the royal treatment if you have some bucks. |

That could deffinatly be an issue. I deposit about 8 checks at a time once a week, then once a month about 12. |
The ATM machine never said shit to me.
|
Am I the only person here that gets wire transfers instead of checks?
Fuck checks! Setup wire transfers. It usually costs about $20 from whoever is sending them to you. Money goes into your account within 24 hours of them sending the wire transfer. No more tellers. No more bullshit. Life is good. :thumbsup |
