Would you rather be single and unhappy or in an unhappy relationship?

A friend of mine asked me that today and I wasn't quite sure how to respond.

He's single and I thought he was happy.

I don't mind being single, it has its pros and cons for sure.. But every once and awhile you do need a lady by ya side.

I flip back and forth. I do not mind having a lady to go places with, but the other 95% of the time I prefer they not be around bitching in my ear about how much I work, how I never get away from a computer, I only care about money, and so on.... and so on...

Single and unhappy.I think everybody has issues with their partners that they hate

The grass is always greener on the other side... It always seems you'll be happier changing to the other status, but yet, it never seems to work out.

it depends why you are unhappy... but probably single and unhappy, if it's just you, you just have to pull yourself together and problem is solved... when there are 2 people involved it's not as easy, way more drama involved...

In an unhappy relationship. Coz sometimes the relationship will make you feel happy. If you're single and unhappy you'll just bring others around you down - thats from past experience with friends.

How can someone be unhappy and single? I don't understand that. If it's just you, it's just you. If you're unhappy in that mode, you shouldn't be in a relationship in the first place.

That does NOT compute.........I guess some people need to have "someone" to complete them. Single is the way to be. I do what i want, when i want, as often as i want and with whoever i want.........but that's just me :)

Much rather be single and unhappy. At least you can sample different women. If you are in a relationship and unhappy then you are fucking the same person all the time AND you are unhappy, a double negative.

I smell a trick question. Because in either case, it's still YOUR happiness in question. It's not like it's someone elses job to "make" you happy or not.

If someone is dragging you down and you're sick of it, let them know and hit the bricks (or other resolution).

Perspective is key also. Feeling unhappy? Take a trip to your local veterans hospital and visit some patients. You get the idea? Wheres the happiness scale anyway? One was not included in my package so I cant compare..

Great question. Personally, I function best in a relationship, just the way I'm wired.

However, I'd rather be single and unhappy than unhappy in a relationship simply because the odds of meeting someone new than I can be happy with are greater than when trapped in a shitty situation.
