NAMECHEAP WARNING: a "bug" removed domain from my account
So I went to change dns on a site, could not find it. Logged into all my registrars, looked, looked, looked again. Pulled up the damn whois to see where I have it registered, and sure enough it was namecheap.
I kept checking my namecheap master domain list and I am still waking up here, so thought I was just missing it. But nope, sure enough the domain was gone. I immediately went to the live help, and here is the conversation I had. Namecheap: Hello, how can I help you? Me: hello, one of my domains has disappeard from my account Me: the domain was renewed in may and is active right now, so I dont' now why... the site is ****** Me: I am moving the site and went to change the dns and it is not there Namecheap: what is the username, please? Me: ***** Me: I keep looking to see if it is my eyes, but it is not in my master list of domains anymore Namecheap: Please hold on, I'm checking Me: thanks Me: I just found the receipt also, for the renewal and it went through ok in may. Me: I see it now, did you fix the problem? what happened? Namecheap: plaese check your domain list now, there was a bug, I have corrected it Me: is that the only one that was missing? thank you, I hope this doesn't happen again Namecheap: I hope so too! You are always welcome! --------------- So they hope it doesn't happen again, wow so reassuring. :1orglaugh Everyone, go check your namecheap account! I suggest you print out a hard copy of your domain list for future reference as well. :) namecheap, you get what you pay for. :Oh crap |
mother fuckers!
|
Never had a problem with them, but thanks for the headsup... hope this isn't a new and recurring thing that is happening, or they'll quickly end up on my shitlist :/
|
damn I better check mine now lol .. thanks for the heads up ..
|
I could not believe it. I swear, I thought it was just me. I have too many things going on, but still very organized.
I think there were other domains missing as well, I wish I had looked closer when they fixed the list. :( and how the hell am I going to resolve anything with a live chat person? I wish they would tell me more what happened. |
that is fucked!
|
Its very fucked, and considering they do not have grace periods anymore for renewals, what the hell is up with this shit?
|
had the same problem about a year and a half ago.
|
upss that hurts, but had so long no problems with them
|
well, at least you have it back now so it wasn't a complete horror story
|
Its a domain I hardly touch, it was a coincidence that I decided to even move it. I'm glad now.
nameripoff :1orglaugh |
That's not a bug, it's a feature!

I used to love namecheap but lately they've been having all kind of problems.
Its a good thing you got support though, they did nothing to help me for 45 days! |

I lost a few domains over this, they absolutely would not renew them for me, and others on this board have also experienced the same. I can't find the thread, but a bunch of people posted the same thing recently. I would like to say you are correct, but somehow that is not the case for everyone. But I will look into it, maybe they reversed this policy. I dealt with their customer service people extensively over this problem! They fucked me out of like 5 sites in a single day of not renewing them!! |
lazycash - I just looked again and a domain I let go recently is now in my reactivate list.
They absolutely must have recently changed their policy probably because the fuckers were losing money on renewals. duh. I'm still upset over my lost domains from earlier this year. I still won't play with namecheap, they have absolutely lost my trust as a customer now. :( |
Wow, you're slamming the shit out of namecheap for a little bug, it was painless and you got it back and they fixed it. Could have been worse, like Godaddy just up and taking your domains.
No place is perfect, but calling namecheap a rip off because of a bug, is kind of irresponsible. |

As my partner, I see her doing nothing wrong. Cherry handles all domains and keeping them up for us, I see what she goes through dealing with registrars. She does great job. |
Thanks for the heads up!
It always pays to check every other day. |

Bugs are bugs, and glitches are glitches, but erasing my internet property is not cool. I hope they erase some of your domains too. oh well, gfy is what it is. :Oh crap |
Retox, btw, they DID just up and take my domains as far as I am concerned.
I had to ask for them back. If I didn't do that, no doubt they would have just kept them. |
I have about 200 with them, how do I check if one or two are missing, damn, that doesn't sound too good

I've been with at least 8 different domain registrars over the last ten years, and hands down Namecheap has been the best. The easiest to use interface, almost instant dns changes, excellent pricing and great support. I can assure you that it would have taken you a couple days to get that "bug" fixed with the horrible support from some of the other registrars. |

For some reason people online have this mistaken idea that any compnay they deal with online gives a shit about them.

This from Namecheap:
We have always allowed you a 30 day grace period to renew your domain after it expires and before it goes into redemption. Our renewal system is also automated so renewal emails are sent out to all domains that are 45 days from expiration automatically. There may be spam filters or something similar at work here. If you click on "manage domains" you will see a link called "reactivate". You will see this: Domain List Renew Reactivate Click on "Reactivate" and you will be able to see your expired domains, as well as renew them from there. Regardless, If you send me an email to [email protected] with "Attention Richard K." in subject line I will personally see what the status of your domain is and help you get it renewed as soon as possible. If anyone else here ever has any problems with our system, please do not hesitate to contact me directly as I am almost always available. Best, Richard K. NameCheap.com |

Since you feel the need to input your useless opinion, let me give my useless defense. First of all, we own hundreds of domains, so your assumption about their importance is incorrect. Earlier this year I had to fly out of state on short notice due to a dying relative about to die, to say goodbye, and I assumed auto renew was on but alas, it was not. I really wasn't worried about a couple domains at that time, and regardless figured they had a GRACE PERIOD which they did not have at that time. So thanks again for your input, this thread is more colorful because of you. hugs! {{{{{{lazycash}}}}}} |
damn.. that is crazy.. I am checking mine now
