Had Obama just come out and been straight up with the American people on this issue, it would have put this issue to an end. All he had to do was explain that his father and step father were muslim, that these men taught him the islamic values when he was a child, but that he rejected it and identified with Christianity, which he still practices til the present. His father wasn't a muslim. His father was an atheist by the time he reached college. Nonetheless, he hardly ever saw his father. I believe he saw him once after the age of two before his death.

He also wasn't raised a Muslim. His Mother was an atheist as well. He spent his life from age 10 to graduation with his Grandmother who was a Christian. The school he did study at in Jakarta was a secular, public school. A lot of Americans living abroad have kids that go there since it's in a wealthy neighborhood. Nonetheless, he was there for 3 years until 4th grade.
