FfVb - Firefox VBulletin extension update - Thread List now in Sidebar!

Now you can visit GFY or any one of your favorite VBulletin message boards, go to the forum of your choice (listing topics) and press the "Sidebar Thread List" button in the sub menu.

Your Firefox sidebar will automatically pop open and list all of the threads for you without any graphics or other distractions.

The thread list will auto reload at regular intervals no matter what page you're browsing... even if it's CNN.com, your thread list will always show you what's current.

You can set the regular intervals yourself as well in the extension's preferences. Choices are :
30 sec
45 sec
1 min
2 min

As a side note, there's also an easier way to get to the extension preferences now, just go to your Tools menu and choose "VBulletin Management..."

For those of you who do not yet have the Firefox extension, grab it here:

The submenu is off by default. Go to the Tools > VBulletin Management... menu and turn it on from there.

Make sure that you're viewing the forumdisplay page, since the page needs to list the threads for it to know what you are looking for.

Once the submenu is enabled, you should see a menu attached to the bottom of FF when looking at the forum.

In there, you'll see UserCP, New Thread and the button for the sidebar.

Sorry, this is still a beta, I'm still working out the kinks in it. It'll be 100% by the time it hits ver 1.00.

In the meantime, try a ff restart, update the extensions and see if that does it. If not, I'll keep working on it.

Just did the update auto discovery and install.
Everything is working flawlessly StuartD :thumbsup

Nice touch adding VBulletin Management to the Tools dropdown.
I think the Thread Reload Time should have a "Never" option. :2 cents:

Kewl tewl StuartD, Thanks again! :pimp

Installed on FF v2.0.0.14

Good call, I'll add that into my next update. To never update the thread list. :thumbsup

I do still have even more ideas, but first I still have to perfect a few things on this sidebar thing though to get it 100% first.

Installed on FF v2.0.0.14

Added "Never" as an option in the latest update.
Also fixed a looping issue where if you bounce from forum to forum opening and closing the sidebar, it would add multiple "events" causing it to get the thread list multiple times.

Ver 0.82 now ready for download.

I'm glad it finally works.
The Sidebar doesn't have your traditional same functionality, for example, no right clicking.... but I think I can work something up for you. If so, it'll be in the next update :thumbsup

Jace 04-19-2008 10:55 PM

no button showing up for me, I just have search user cp new thread and new reply

gunna restart again and see what happens

Jace 04-19-2008 10:58 PM

another thing.... (Am I getting on your nerves yet?:winkwink:)
with FF3 Beta 5, clicking on a thread on the sidebar crashes Firefox...

Heh, you're definitely not getting on my nerves. This is how these beta extensions are supposed to go :winkwink:

And FF3 crashing sounds like a FF3 problem. The links are pretty standard links.
I just woke up but I'll load up FF3 in a bit and see if I can figure it out.

Added the number of replies into the latest update (0.83), still working on the FF3 crashing and opening into new tabs option though.

does the crashing happen for you too?

1off 04-21-2008 09:10 AM

Yes it does. As I said, it's pretty standard, so I'd have to assume it's a FF3 beta glitch but I'll check into it closer when I can.

1off, is it GFY you're trying it on or another board? (if so, don't say which, against the rules)
If you put the mouse over the link in the sidebar, does the link look right in the status bar?

1off 04-21-2008 10:51 AM

Yeah, it's gfy..

and the link is wrong. Actually i was just trying it again and noticed my gfy bookmark within FF now goes to C:/docs etc etc.. showthread blah blah.. and the links in the sidebar are pointing to my C drive too??

wow, nice.
My extension has nothing to do with bookmarks. Don't know where that would have come from.
Fix your bookmark and try it again and let me know if it changes it again on you.
