If you ever wanted to understand what MMA is about...

Probably one of the best documentaries I've seen. From the dreaded 4 weeks out to a fight, the training, the dieting, the overal feeling of wanting to get it done already to the ending. Well worth watching.

There is a documentary out called "Choke" it's pretty old and follows Rickson Gracie's training about a month before his Pride fight, think it's Pride 2. This was back when you didn't get off easy and only have one fight. It was elimination style, I think he fights 4 times. Submitting them all with a Rear Naked Choke (hence the name of the documentary "Choke") I have it on VHS, show's you how long it's been around. He has something like 300 plus fights and zero loses. He is the badest man to ever walk the earth. Now he lives in Brazil, Surfing, training and bangin ho's! Here's a piece of the documentary (excuse the dots, dont have over 30 posts yet)

Choke is pretty good, but you never really get to understand the dieting, the workouts, what it takes to be a new fighter. Rickson is one of the best ever Brazillian Jiu Jitsu fighters to have lived, but the common man cannot fully connect to him.

MMA has come a long way since PRIDE 1 and 2. MMA Fighters are complete, standup, wrestling, and submission. Not so back then. Sakuraba went through 3 Gracies, and he was a Pro Wrestler before MMA fighter.

The nice part about "Choke" is that you get to see Rockson (Rickson's son), training and being a part of Rickson's life. Rockson was on his way becoming the family champion after his father. Unfortunately Rockson died in a motorcycle accident. Rickson has not fought since then.

You have some incorrect information.

Rickson Gracie has a purported 400 wins and zero losses. That record is incorrect, and no one really knows if he counts sparring as wins. Rickson's actual MMA record is 11 wins, 0 losses.

Baddest man on the planet, there is a line of fighters that would get that honor before Rickson. Starting with a Russian named Fedor.

As for banging hoes, show some respect. Rickson Gracie is a married man.

Shameless 02-26-2008 11:18 PM

Rickson is one of my hero's and I have the utmost respect for him. Henry Aikens, one of his black belts who teaches at his academy is a good friend. Did anyone see him on Fight Quest? Interesting show. And there are plenty of good fighters out there. Just like baseball or basket ball everyone has their favorites. Rickson happens to be one of mine, along with BJ Penn. They are very technical fighters, I dig that.

kane 02-26-2008 11:49 PM

That is a cool show. Thanks for the link. That site rocks too. they have some other things I want to check out.

Rickson lives in LA, and I don't think Fedor is a better fighter pound for pound. Rickson did amazing things and his bjj is second to none.

fyi Rickson has another son, Krone, who is a badass and who you'll be seeing a lot of very soon.

Hi Guys,

www.XXXBizTV.Com is currently showing what goes on inside MMA fighter and UFC Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture?s gym in Las Vegas.
Kim Couture tours the gym and shows what it?s like being both a business partner and wife to Randy.

Many famous UFC, IFL, and Bodog fighters train at Randy?s gym.

Hope you enjoy :)

There is not disrespect here, was just being funny. Rickson is one of my hero's not someone I slam. I trained at his academy for 2 years. He's one of my hero's. And glad you liked the link.

Fedor has fought more current, and more dangerous opponents. Inasmuch as Rickson went through the competition back in the early 2000's, last 90's, he has never dealt with a fighter that has the total game.

Look what happened to Royce when he fought Matt Hughes. It's a case of beign good in one discipline of MMA, against a well rounded MMA fighter. All the respect in the world for him, but he's been left behind. Sakuraba wanted him for years, and we all know what Sakuraba did to 3 Gracies.

Kron is definately making waves. Undefeated if I remember my info right, as of 2005 anyways which was the last time I kept stats on him.

I have seen shit none have you seen!! I got my Black from Rigan machado 6 years ago. I am good friends with Ricksons american Black belts. only 4 of them!! I grew up with BJJ as my religion!! I was friends with Rockson Gracie (Ricksons Gracie's son).

For me to be Rigan Machado Black belt and say Rickson Grace is the can get me into serious political problems.

But people who know me, know i will call it how i see it!!!

Rickson is the fucking best to ever grapple or fight!!! PERIOD!!!!

MMA 11-0 record? lol.. Keep in mind that was his Pride record. He fought in Brazil before the word mixed martial arts ever existed!! Because MMA didnt exist, his fights never happened?? His fights are real, he is the real deal!! His fight against ZULU was a war!! Over an hour!!! Before Rickson stopped ZULU, ZULU beat everybody in brazil!! ZULU lost 2 times to Rickson Gracie.

I saw him lay on his back and hold a conversation with other people in the room and Play with Royce Gracie. No hands, and not even looking at him. Was able to finish him at will!!!

I saw him line up 5 different world BJJ campions and tool all 5 one after the other as if they had no idea what was going on!!

He took on all commers!! He beat the best at his time. But he had the "fuck you pay me" mentality. which was the right mentality.

Rickson Gracie's time has passed, he has nothing to prove. And dont even think about comparing him to his brothers, cousins and nephews. It would be very disrespectful!!

As for Fador; he is good and the guy to beat right "now".

But if BJJ and mma is is your religion, Rickson Gracie is your maker!!

Who am I???? I have wrestled all of these guys in tounys and competitions, and behind closed doors. I speak from first hand experiences and observations!! I trained and have wrestled with all of the guys you look up to on tv. You need to be my level in BJJ to have any comprehension On the true skill level of Rickson Gracie.

And there will never be another Rickson Grace!!

No disrespect to anybody here. I really mean that! But if you want to slam my post ask your self, "how many people did i fight, wrestle or corner to make such factual "expert" claims?":2 cents:

Wow!! You know about Rolls?? He was the very best at his time! Even better than Rickson was!! But his life was cut short by a hang gliding accident so we never really got a fair shot at seeing his lifes accomplishments. sad..

Carlos Gracie Jr and Rigan Rachado Gave me the stories and insight on Rolls Gracie. I learned it from family. I saw rare Video footage of the guy.

You do know about BJJ, because Black belts that got them closest from the original source (because when you train day in and day out with Gracie family, the stories come out), or very serious BJJ fans that research BJJ history, know about Rolls Gracie.

Good stuff, much respect dude!!:thumbsup

All I've heard about Rolls has been that he was the best. :) We can thank him for the cross training, and the mindset of modern BJJ, taking whats' useful, and integrating. The Americana, the Triangulo, all under Roll's and his teachings. Rolls was the first cross trainer in BJJ. I agree, he died too soon.

Watching this video, you can see the wrestling that Rolls integrated, with his training with Bob Anderson. The great thing about BJJ, is that the spirit hasn't died, guys like Eddie Bravo, Marcelo Garcia, De La Riva, they are still evolving BJJ.

There are a few of us here who train and love BJJ. Dig420 got me involved, and we both trained at the Gracie Academy in Torrance. I think Dig is training with Jeff Glover now. I train at American Top Team, we are both blues. The Senator is a Purple, and I know we have a Brown Belt on here as well.

We have to meet Dave! I'd love to hear some of the stories you could tell. :)

Wow!! I saw that video on VHS tape along with a shit load of others. I love Royce Gracie, but when Reron and Rener Took over teaching Duties, the leval at torrance went up big time!!

Were you there when torrence Grace challenged The Machado team? it was blue belts and purple belts only. Gracie rules. no time limits. Rorion beleved that machado students could not win if there were no time limit.

2 guys in each weight class only! Rorian had a professional video team there to capture the gracie team beating the Machado team!!

I was one of the coaches for team machado. Rico Rodriegues was a Brown and could not fight, but already won Abu Dabi. lol

We won 25 out of 27 weight classes!! Dean Lister was a purple and beat Reron Gracie for 1 of the victories. Rener beat one of my students for the Gracie victory.

After 2 of our guys quick tapped 2 Torrance guys, Rorian Gracie had the cameras turned off. lol It was the most vindicating thing i was ever a part of. Being a Machado fighter and living in redondo beach, we would hear day in and day out how our BJJ was not the real deal!!! 10 fucking years i would hear this!!! That day was better than sex!!!!!!! And Eddie bravo was a purple belt and beat his guy too.

Did you trained with Ryan Parker, the forever Purple belt!! I have known him since he was 14, training at torrance. He is now 28.. lol ahh memories.. lol. My close friend Mark Laimon left there when he was a blue belt. he is one of the top american instructors right now.. lol

And for american top team, those guys are good!! Good fighters good instructors. they Rep. USA very well.

And Jeff Glover is the real deal. cool guy cool attitude! He taped a Brazilian Black belt training partner of mine with the baddest foot lock!! GO USA!!! I always cheer American!!! No mater what!!! Unless Its Rigan Machado.. You will learn this in time!! I never turn my back on Brazilians!! they will fuck you over without a thought!!! Seen it time in and time out!! lol

I have Rigan Machado coming to my house for the fights this Sat. with a couple of Big MMA names. We are close, i am one of his 1st Black Belts and would always put my teaching time in when he traveled. It was always free!!

ICQ me any time! Rigans Cousin teaches in FL. and i have productions out there.

Wait till You see my XXX MMA team!! John Stong, Manwell Farara, Rick Shamless, Craven Moorehead, Derick Pierce and a couple of other directors and photographers. :thumbsup

dig420 02-28-2008 08:01 PM

You use a lot of exclamation points Dave.. you're a Machado BB? That's a hell of an accomplishment. What's your real name, icq it to me 2417874, I'm in Vegas too.

I trained at the academy for several years, we had Machado guys coming over all the time, I don't recall ever seeing any bad blood or smack talk among the students. I don't remember Rorion ever talking bad about the Machados either, they're practically brothers. The only school I've ever had a bad experience at was Cobra Kai, with Laimon. As soon as he found out I was from the Academy he was talking shit nonstop until I finally asked him to take it up with Ryron instead of me. I'm just a blue belt, it's got nothing to do with me lol...

Ant, as far as Fedor v. Rickson, we'll never know because Rickson is just too old at this point to take on the guys in their prime now. I think current Fedor would have taken Rickson then, but if Rickson would have come up a little later he would have had all the skills Fedor has and then some imho. Rickson is AMAZING on the ground. I've never heard of him getting tapped out. NEVER. Not in the ring, not in his school, not anywhere. I've heard that he toys with everyone, that his bjj is on a whole other level. He's really the only Gracie that is a true natural athlete and he was and is pugnacious as hell.

Re Royce v. Hughes, come on man... that wasn't Royce. I can strike better than that and I don't even train striking. I don't know what the hell happened in there but Royce looked HORRIBLE... that's not to say that he would ever have beaten Hughes but goddam, that was embarassing. I was in the Gracie skybox with all the brothers and it was real quiet in there.

Kron isn't undefeated, I know Bill the Grill Cooper beat him once, and then Kron returned the favor, can't remember if it was gi or no gi. I think Bill is a no gi monster so that's probably how he got his win.

Glover went to Big Bear to train with Joe Stevenson for his fight with BJ, much good it did him. He's putting on 20 lbs so he can start fighting himself since there is no 130 lb division and I haven't rolled with him since he went to fight camp. Right now I'm training at Legion BJJ, which is the old LV Combat Club after Sergio Pena left to start his own school, and I'm slowly getting my conditioning back after being out for so long. It feels good.

dig420 02-28-2008 08:06 PM

oh yeah, re the academy...

Rorion is a traditionalist to the bone, he refuses to teach a lot of the newer bjj stuff. In fact he refuses to teach any of it, as he thinks that Helio knew everything that would ever need to be known about bjj. Ryron and Rener can make it work against almost anyone though, especially Ryron. He's a fucking bjj monster, I've never heard of him getting tapped as a black belt. imho, not teaching the new stuff - the de la riva guard etc - is a serious hindrance to Gracie students who want to compete. My game improved by leaps and bounds when I started training with Glover and at combat club, those guys all teach a MUCH more active and aggressive style than the Academy. The reasoning at the Academy is that the new stuff will get you punched in the face if you try it on the street. Take that for what it's worth.

Rorion never said anything bad about us and our teem, it would be all of the brain washed students. Keep in mind this is 8 years ago and longer. When the only schools were Torrance, redondo, Santa Monica, salt lake and New York. That was all of the BJJ schools for the whole US back then..

And for Reron getting tapped, it never happened. He lost to dean lister on a complicated point system developed by the Gracies. Not a bad system, just a point system that gives a longer time limit or no time limit, depending on how the guys are fighting. That fight was about an hour and 20 minutes. A ver young Reron and very good and strong Dean lister.

Reron and Renor are 2 of the best guys in gi and no gi jui-jitsu. I know both well and have the utmost respect for what they accomplished with there fight team and school.

And for Mark Laimon, he isn't a bad guy, he just has serious issues and beef with Rorian Gracie. And he is a vocal individual. I was there when he and Eathan Millious left torrance and were training at boxing works. Both guys were very let down with what transpired (long story)... That experience drove Mark Laimon to be the best! He got his name and reputation by challenging all Brazilian Brown belts week after week. He would challenge all and destroy all. Because back then there was no Brazilian that would promote him. In short he is a good guy, but a kid when it comes to grudges. I am sorry that you got the bad end of something that u didn't do to him.

Now its Jui-Jitsu against everybody. And americans Jui-Jitsu on the higher level will always side up with each other.

Me, i'm easy going and generally never talk about fighting. I got 2 stripes on my Black and i never put them on. Why??? make me tougher. lol Any body who knows, knows 1 strip means 3 years black. Thats it.. I train for fun and i pick and choose who i train with. I cant just walk into a school and say "lets roll" especially when the instructor is a purple or a watered down black. It turns into me teaching which i love to do and thats after i rolled up the class of 30 5 times in a row. lol They want to see if im for real. lol. I cant blame them. How many americans have legit blacks? less than 100??

Its still fun, (except for being on crutches for the last 4 month because of knee surgery) but i make my money shooting content for a couple of companies including PORN.COM

Man this isn't Ohio, there are world class black belts all over LA and LV. What school are you training at now?

As long as this thread is being bumped, justdavexxx is definitely for real - anyone thinking of pissing with him keep that in mind. He can break your arm in about 12 seconds, if he takes his time about it ;)

Just never saw a bb use that many exclamation points lol

Outside of a MMA/BJJ board, I've never seen a BB post at all. :)
