Films you are almost embarrassed to like

I generally like 'artsy' films and world cinema but I would be fibbing if I didn't say there were a few 'dumbass' movies on my list of movies I enjoy. Are there films that you aren't suppose to like but you can't help liking even if they are dumbass films or everybody else seems to hate them?

My list includes:

The Money Pit
Dragnet (early Tom Hanks movies tend to show up on my list often)
Hudson Hawk (I think I am one of three people that own the DVD)

What are your films that you are almost embarrassed to like?

Marie 01-15-2008 06:04 AM

Clueless!

... but that's just a masterpiece :)

and people tell me I shouldn't like Happy Gilmore.

Dirty F 01-15-2008 06:04 AM

Well not embarrassed really but i really do like Waterworld. I think it's a very decent movie but for some reason the whole world seems to think otherwise.

Emil 01-15-2008 06:04 AM

The Harry Potter movies :1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Thats spooky - The Money Pit is my top answer!

I love Shelly Long and that scene with the Turkey is the funniest thing ever. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Grease would be next - Give me a bottle or 2 of wine and Grease on DVD and leave me alone for a few hours - Heaven

Oh yes and Pricilla Queen Of The Desert - Of course :)

No person on earth should be embarrassed to like Priscilla Queen Of The Desert ..fantastic film.

Also, Grease is fine. If you said you liked Grease 2 that would be another topic.

My BF is a big Howard The Duck fan. On our last trip to the States we had to go to Cleveland because we were close enough to drive and that was where the film was set.

Probably one of the most influential films of the 20th century:-

I like that one too. The Postman as well, both were panned by the critics as being basically overbudget crap, but I'll sit through them again anytime.

But I like anything post-apocalyptic in nature. I loved Damnation Alley, a film that was mercilessly criticized back in it's day. Same with Omega Man, and any of the old Planet of the Apes films.

And I'm a sucker for Elvis movies. :D

gornyhuy 01-15-2008 07:22 AM

Serendipity. (John Cusack chick flick that everyone but me hates)

Hudson Hawk is a classic

"Swingin' on a Star"

(chorus)
Would you like to swing on a star
Carry moonbeams home in a jar
And be better off than you are

Or would you rather be a mule?
A mule is an animal with long funny ears
He kicks up at anything he hears
His back is brawny
And his brain is weak
He's just plain stupid with a stubborn streak
By the way, if you hate to go to school
You may grow up to be a mule

(chorus)

Or would you rather be a fish?
A fish is an animal that swims in a brook
He can't write his name or read a book
To fool the people is his only thought
And though he's slipperly
He still gets caught!
If that's all life is what you wish
You may grow up to be a fish

(Chorus)

Or would you rather be a pig?
A pig is an animal with dirt on his face
His shoes are a terrible disgrace
He's got no manners when he eats his food
He's fat and lazy and extremely rude
But if you don't care a feather or a fig
You may grow up to be a pig

And all the monkeys aren't in the zoo
Every day you see quite a few
So you see it's all up to you
You could be better than you are
You could be swinging on a star
(repeat X10)
Let's take it home!
You could be swinging on a star!

I think a lot of people didn't get the tongue-in-cheek humor of Hudson Hawk. My favorite scene is when Darwin Mayflower is showing Hawk photos of him robbing the vault and then one of the slides is of Darwin and his sister Minerva in some S&M pose and he says under his breath "Damn photo men assholes".

TubeTitans_SusieQ 01-15-2008 10:02 AM

lol the breakfast club ,pretty in pink, clueless, and dirty dancing....im such a girl

SilentKnight 01-15-2008 10:06 AM

Endless Love (with Brooke Shields - gag)

WHY you ask?

It brings back memories of a special GF and a darkened movie theatre so long ago...

I liked it growing up but I had no idea so many women my age were nearly obsessed with it. Over here there was just a reality show based around learning to dirty dance at the holiday camp where it was filmed.

I did go to one school dance in junior high where all the DJ did was play the entire soundtrack and no other tracks.

Glad I wasn't the only one...I thought that scene was really fun. Part of the reason I agreed to date my boyfriend was that he was the only other person I knew that had Hudson Hawk in their dvd collection.

There is nothing at ALL wrong with Say Anything. However, there is a discussion in that film that is the entire reason I count to five minutes once a plane I am in has taken off.
