My 2nd baby boy was born today!

Tyler arrived into this world at 9:29am and even though he was born 3 weeks early, he was still 7 pounds and 2.5 ounces... and a full 20 inches long.

His mom is recovering nicely already but she has a long road to full recovery after 5 full months of bed rest and severe pain.

But our family is complete.... and next week we'll all be home together for the holidays.

Happy Birthday Tyler :thumbsup

It's still "sore" but that's way better than how it was when it was making her scream all night.
Yeah, she's got a little while before she can jog or anything.... but at least now she can start getting better each day, instead of worse :)

Why was your wife in bed for 5 months? Not being rude just curious.. My wife is 8.5 months pregnant and you'd hardly know except for the tummy size.. Did she have some kind of complications? Hard to imagine she's been in bed since month 3 of pregnancy?! crazy

UncutBucksMike 12-08-2007 05:17 PM

Ahhh he is such a cute lil guy. Enjoy the Holidays and keep him and mom healthy.

Hugs,
Jen

She had pubic symphysis which basically involved the ligament holding the two halves together being ripped apart. It happens in 1 in 37 pregnancies or so, but my wife got it particularly early in her pregnancy (4 months in) which meant that it had a lot of time to get worse as the baby got bigger.

The first 4 months she was on bed rest at home but the final 3 weeks were in the hospital, unable to even roll over, much less walk anywhere.

The baby was over 7 pounds at 37 weeks, so that weight was pushing down into her already straining pelvis. Had we gone to 40 weeks... well, I couldn't imagine what would have happened.

Not every pregnancy goes wonderfully perfect. :(

Hope your wife finally starts to feel better too mate.

congrats man :)

Wow sorry to hear that.. If I understand right either the sack that baby is in was breaking apart or the baby was in a position that made it super painful through pressure? wowzers... Very happy they both made it through!! You two must have been on pins and needles with lots of stress these last months.. Must be a huge breath of air now. :)

Wish you all the best! Our baby was in breach position way too long (feet first) but apparently just turned to head down, so that was nice.. I think our baby will only be about 5.5 lbs when she delivers, getting very excited. :)

Damn, brave and strong woman!!! :thumbsup

Three weeks in the hospital. :helpme

You're Canadian as I recall. Ballpark, how much will the hospital stay cost you? In the U.S., I am guessing it would run $10,000+ dollars, even if you have insurance.

BTW, Tyler is probably going to be a tough kid...might want to put a hockey stick and other gear in his crib. :winkwink:

The biggest charge for Canadians at the hospital is to park when you go visit people there.. :)

It's actually a hormone thing. The body releases a certain hormone in the final month or so of pregnancy which tells all the ligaments holding joints together to relax. This is the final stage that is required to allow a rather large baby to pass through such a tiny area. Without it, no woman would be able to handle it.

Unfortunately, her body decided to release it very early. Chances are it's because this is our second baby and her body thought "hey, I already know what to do!" and just did it.

Besides it being extremely painful (a LOT of weight pushing down on an already stretched to the limit ligament), it was also very scary because for a prolonged period, the pelvis might not be the only ligament affected. She could potentially of lost use of her legs or arms or what have you, and fell. And with a pelvis in that condition, a fall could have been very disastrous.

Good luck with yours, it sounds like your baby knows what to do :winkwink:

As Socks said, the biggest charge for me is parking, and Tim Hortons donuts.
The stay is free, the proceedure is free, the medicine is free.....

until April, when I do my taxes. :(

nikad 12-08-2007 05:41 PM

Congrats! Happy Bday to him :) and a speedy recovery for the mom!

raven1083 12-08-2007 05:44 PM

Congratulation to you. Its really a blessings to have a baby. Wish you all the best in life.

StuartD 12-08-2007 05:50 PM

Thank you everyone.

Oh, and by comparison.... Tyler's big brother Cameron is 2 years and 5 months now, and is just starting to out grow his 5 year old clothing. And Tyler has a lot of the same features...

They better get rich being pro athletes or something because I fear they might bankrupt me in food bills by then!!

The good news there is your income tax won't be any worse than if your wife hadn't had a baby.

Congrats on the new addition to the family Stu. :thumbsup
