why should people have to pay for bandwidth, can't you simply post out to a free feed company & bypass all this b.s. b/w cost?

some free feed casters even allow pw protection, so what exactly are you offering to the customer, outside of a hefty b/w bill? (beyond the montly subscription)

seems to me like you're making most of your money off bandwidth, which is a travesty....you charge not only for the content but the b/w....i think you should be offering one of them free here :2 cents:

You want free feeds? Who's offering free feeds? If you're waiting for someone to give you something for free here, you're going to be waiting a while.

Also, very few companies EVER do enough bw to justify the minimum fee that feed companies charge them. With EF, if you use 60 bucks worth of bw, then you pay 60 bucks, not 1200. Sounds like a fair deal to me.

I said either make the subscription free, or the bandwidth free/no charge. One or the other. Charge for one of them.

Bandwidth costs jack shit these days.....like nothing. I know providers paying $5 per mbps. Thats why you can buy a $99 server & it comes with 5mbps.

All these extra bandwidth charges that go along with subscription fee's are just a hustle. PERIOD

You may be an SEO expert, but you don't seem to know shit about anything else. The $39.00 is a minimum fee, if you go over the bw limit the fee is negotiated but still dirt cheap. Go with someone else, you pay the 1200.00 minimum fee and if you go over the bw limit the fee is negotiated and NOT dirt cheap.

There is no such thing as free bandwidth.

A sustained transfer rate of 1 Megabit per second over a period of one month would total approximately 300GB.

300gb x $4 = $1200

A small paysite/blog etc. could easily hit 4mbps sustained with 40,000 visitors daily (easily)....which would work out to roughly $4800 per month

hosting companies charge roughly $40 for top of the line awesome level3 etc. bandwidth....so this is a mark up of $4640 for 4mbps....this must the the bomb shiznit feed of all time....6 months of this for one customer would pretty much cover the entire production cost for your entire porn shoot enterprise

6 months x 1 customer burning 4mbps on a feed = $27,840 profit, assuming you actually pay $40 per mbps out of pocket, which no one does these days, not even on national net : )

no, you're totally correct - that page needs to be updated. However, NO 'small' paysite hits 40,000 visitors per day. If you have 40,000 members on your paysite you're making $1,200,000 per month with your paysite. Not to mention you don't get a visit to your paysite from every member every day, so let's say to get 40k visits per day to your member area you need to have at least 500,000 members. I'm not sure there's any paysite in the world that has or has ever had that many members.

These feeds are for paysite member areas, not blogs. Fair criticism is fine. Making up shit so you can sound smarter than you really are is just irritating, but thanks for the bump.

I understand your point. But people are not simply paying for bw in a feeds model...let's not forget the content. I know my company and many of my competitors invest heavily in our content libraries, especially in keeping them updated. In a feeds model it's not the bw that's the benefit to the webmaster, it's filling up their members area with tons of content without a huge initial investment. I've signed up alot of newbies that start out with zero members, and it's really amazing to see how rapidly they grow with just our feeds. I also have a ton of established sponsors as clients who tell me that our feeds to a great job of helping to retain their members.

feeds do a great job retaining members, i ran several affiliate programs...

one thing i know is ....you can add feeds, but you can't remove feeds

once you add them, you have to keep them, or your member database goes down

so a lot of paysite owners find themselves in a catch 22, their members start using the feeds more & their bill gets larger, but they don't get anymore surge in members....they can no longer afford the feed & have to drop it....resulting in canceled memberships

So you mean to tell me you have 0 customers not using a paysite model with feeds?

Generally if you're getting to the point where your content bill is rising you're making enough $$ from your membership sales to justify it, one goes with the other. You can't run a million dollar paysite with 12 bucks worth of content, that's just not the way it works.

If you're seeing a big spike in content bw without a corresponding rise in membership numbers you probably have password trading problems.

Feeds aren't allowed in any non password protected area, I think you'll find that this is standard with any feed company. Putting up quality feeds in an area wide open to non-paying surfers would be insane.

I know he implied that he was looking for PAID feeds since he mentioned the gig rate but I was just giving him options he may not have thought about dig420. hey don't get me wrong, I like upsells as much as the next guy! I'm just saying that I thought he was looking for content to make his member area more sticky and increase his retention, not increase his ROI per member. I think a good webmaster knows you need both to make things work :)

I think the cost of bandwidth would be extremely prohibitive to use paid feeds outside of a members area. Perhaps if you were able to cap individual surfers but then you would probably be better off using an upsell product like the one that we offer to smaller programs and tgps.
