My blog is ripped by a blog hosted on blogspot

1 of my best blogs is getting all it's pictures hotlinked and all the text content that i've hand written myself all ripped and used for all the content on another guys blog at blogspot.com free blog host

anyone know if/how i can report them and have their account cancelled??? i was clicking around and there is hardly anyway to contact them about anything at all

thanks a lot

CreatineGuy 11-10-2007 08:29 AM

hmmm.. maybe you don't understand how blogs work at all..

if you run a blog, anyone is able to grab your rss from anywhere.. and you can't do shit about it..

try to read the article about blogs in wikipedia to understand how things work.

Thumbler 11-10-2007 09:04 AM

You could flag it and/or use the form at http://help.blogger.com/?page=contact&skiplogin=yes

fris 11-10-2007 09:07 AM

blogspot forbids the use of adult content on blogspot subdomains, report them.

msacras 11-10-2007 09:42 AM

i had that problem a couple times - theres a flag on the top, hit that, but that can take a while

when it happened to me i also changed the rss feed to summary and turned on all the hotlink protection so they saw some pretty nasty pictures

what he said, they should take his blog down pretty fast

RawAlex 11-10-2007 09:47 AM

Just wait about 2 weeks, then it will convert to a redirect to AFF or similar.

baddog 11-10-2007 09:50 AM

how are they hotlinking your pics? never heard of htaccess?

CaptainHowdy 11-10-2007 09:52 AM

i see sooooooooooo many adult blogs using blogspot, yet in their terms, it clearly states they do not allow adult content for commercial use on their website. They must not be too strict about that rule.

umm CreatineGuy if you want to call anyone a idiot you should look in the mirror. Just because a site offers RSS doesn't mean you can steal the feeds to use on your site.

RSS does not trump copyright laws. RSS is just a syndication tool not a free pass to steal content.

RSS feeds are offered in many cases for users whom read via RSS readers. However it doesn't mean you can just plug the feed into your site and steal the content without permission.

jscott if the guy is hot linking your images, that's a easy enough fix.. Just make a image that says.. "this content stolen from "yourdomain.com" and make a htaccess entry to stop his hot linking.

Then report the site to blogspot.

Unless explicitly stated otherwise you are not allowed to republish rss feeds.

GrouchyAdmin 11-10-2007 05:56 PM

What's with all of these idiots with over a post count of 100 that somehow managed to slip by my 'fuck off and die forever' radar?

Find who's polling your RSS feed with either a known script (rss2html) or a generic user-agent. Or, just disable RSS for anything not Google?

AmeliaG 11-10-2007 06:14 PM

Google is often fairly hostile to intellectual property holders, but you can still probably send a successful DMCA to:

Google, Inc.
Attn: Google Legal Support, Blogger DMCA Complaints
1600 Amphitheatre Parkway
Mountain View, CA 94043

OR fax to:

(650) 618-2680, Attn: Blogger Legal Support, DMCA Complaints

AmeliaG 11-10-2007 06:15 PM

I'm assuming the blog with your content on it does not have contact info on it. Obviously, the easiest first step is an email saying, hey, please don't scrape my blog.

2012 11-10-2007 06:19 PM

take em down ... to china town !

Blogspots can not have adult content...
Ignore the creatinegay...

StarkReality 11-10-2007 08:06 PM

CreatineGuy maybe a real idiot, but some of the stuff he posted is absolutely true.

1. An RSS feed is copyrighted like any other content, no matter if it's text, a picture, a video or a feed...but todays reality is different: If you run a blog with a feed, you'll see it scraped and republished as soon as you start ranking well for any search term. It's not ok, but it happens to almost every blog, if I'd send out DMCA notices for everyone scaping any of my blogs I'd need to hire a full time employee for that. So, while it's illegal, the only way to fight this problem, at least partially, is publishing excerpts only or remove RSS completely....or ignore it.

2. Flagging does shit if not done by LOADS of people, I flagged a blog with all different IPs daily for about 3 months, nothing happened, it's still there, full of stolen content and links to full members area video downloads on rapidshare.

3. Blogger rarely removes adult blogs. In fact, google does not generally disallow adult content. The terms are a little vague about it, they reserve the right to "put such content behind an interstitial", suggest to make it private and do not allow "content that exists for the primary purpose of monetizing porn content or driving traffic to a monetized pornography site". Sounds easy, but I'm sure you could discuss for hours how "primary purpose" can be defined. Fact: There are many adult blogs on blogger that exist for 3+ years and get traffic in the 20-100k daily range, even found 2 PR5 ones. I don't think it's clever to host a blog there, since there is still a chance that it gets removed, but google doesn't seem to care much about it.

To see how much google cares: There was a big warez blog on blogger, links to it were spread over loads of big mainstream webmaster forums for weeks. Instead of deleting it, google made it access to registered blogger members only (so basically anyone spending 30 seconds to make an account). They didn't delete it...

Shoplifter 11-10-2007 09:35 PM

Interesting. I thought Blogger had no inherent feed subscription ability.

this is just wrong, come on google, wtf?

kmanrox 11-10-2007 10:14 PM

exactly... htaccess and a goatse photo did the trick back in 1996, and im sure it will work still now :pimp

poto 11-10-2007 10:30 PM

you got scraped...

welcome to the blogosphere :upsidedow

Bods4Mods 11-10-2007 10:50 PM

Oh that's nasty!

CreatineGuy 11-10-2007 11:17 PM

Exactly StarkReality.. Finally someone who is not ignorant. ;)

1) Let me add these.. If a blog ever gets flagged on blogger. it will not get deleted. Instead, it will only display a warning page to those who flagged it, saying that the page has explicit or disputed content, with a "yes" and a "no". Once you press yes, you are in.

2) Blogger does not delete any content or blog for using a RSS from another blog... Just because using a RSS form another blog is the escene of Blogging. Anyone not knowing this, is a total dumb utter dutch ignorant.

3) If in this forum people are considered idiot for saying the truth (aka something they don't want to hear), then yes, consider me an idiot. :)

CreatineGuy 11-10-2007 11:19 PM

it's funny to hear the htaccess thing...

well.. the more people that apply htacces, the better for me.. so i can get their traffic. :thumbsup

Matt 26z 11-11-2007 12:10 AM

Just because something is possible doesn't mean you are authorized to do it. Yes, you can scrape a blog and republish their content on your site with your own ads around it. However anyone doing this without a clear authorization is on the same level as paysite owners who stock their members area with stolen content. You are among the true lowlifes of the industry.

Nookster 11-11-2007 12:27 AM

.htaccess you need:
Code:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://(www\.)?yoursite.com/.*$ [NC]
RewriteRule \.(gif|jpg)$ http://www.yoursite.com/nohotlink.jpg [R,L]

thanks man, i'll figure something out

btw, fyi, it's not him taking my rss feeds, he's using my content ONLY, not give me any links to sponsors, or anything, usually if i give out rss feeds it helps me get free traffic as others use it

but this is not the case, he rips everything to benefit from my content, but gives me absolutely NOTHING in return

minusonebit 11-11-2007 01:04 AM

Send a DMCA notice to Google if its that big of a fucking deal. That *WILL* get it taken down.
