How long After you build a blog does it take for serious hits to come through?

Ive heard a lot of people tell me, just wait until the second month you shall gets hits then, or wait until the 3rd month, thats when the search eginnes pick you up.

But how long would you say for serious hits as in 100+ se hits to the blog per day?

at the moment on all my blogs I am getting little trickles of traffic, they are all a month old round about. Update once every 3 days at least. custom

tranza 07-31-2007 07:55 AM

At least 6 months.

OG LennyT 07-31-2007 08:00 AM

at least 6-12 months for decent SE traffic - depending on how many 'pages' you build

scottybuzz 07-31-2007 08:09 AM

6 months for 100 hits a day?

Wow not what I expected at all.

Thanks, any more opinions?

steved 07-31-2007 08:17 AM

It depends on which sites link to your blog. If you have high PR pages one-way linked to the blog, you can get SE fast.

pornguy 07-31-2007 08:45 AM

I was at 100 hits a day in 4 months. Just update EVERY day, 1 time a day with custom updates.

I do mine a week in advance.

CIVMatt 07-31-2007 08:49 AM

without Jace = 6 months

with Jace = 2 months

stickyfingerz 07-31-2007 08:57 AM

Feel free to add your link Scotty www.linksboy.com If you want a featured spot just drop me an email with the domain names. :winkwink:

4 months? you're doing something VERY wrong. by 4 months the blog should be AT LEAST 1k/day

themachinelavene 07-31-2007 09:58 AM

# & quality of backlinks, niche & keywords targeted all come into play...i've had a blog start getting good SE traffic within 6 weeks...others have taken 3-4 months

Gasper 07-31-2007 10:01 AM

a week or so

just a punk 07-31-2007 10:07 AM

For 100se hits a day? Not more than 1 month. And you even don't have to update your blog manually - just a few optimization things however. Also be sure to get some incoming PR links.

P.S. 4,6 or even 2 months to get 100se hits a day is a waste of time :2 cents:

Varius 07-31-2007 10:12 AM

My Anaheim Ducks blog is in week 5 of its existence and I'm getting about 180 uniques/day now. About 120/day of those come from Google, while I'm only starting to see a few come in from Yahoo, AOL and MSN in the past week.

I do have a few sites linking to me, but none with high PR (and my site's PR has yet to be updated and is still PR0).

I do already rank in the top 10-20 for many combinations of ducks/hockey keywords and player names.

Since this is the off season, I'd expect that traffic to increase once the season starts. All posts are custom done by me.

hmm yeh, i would have thought 4 months custom updates each day for 100 hits of se traffic is pretty poor

Gottcha. So definitley I am under performing if I am on 20 se hits a day on a 3 week old blog. Got some work to do.

Thanks all for your answers.

Thats very nice numbers indeed with a good potential. However dont you feel you are targetting easier keywords, with for example the names of the hockey players, compared to adult keywords? May that be playing a factor in any of this, or do you think getting those keywords is harder?

Flynn 07-31-2007 10:18 AM

I was getting 200 hits a day after about 2/3 weeks.

Depending how niche your adult keywords are, I would agree mainstream and hockey are definitely less competitive to get ranked for.

Then again, the terms are less searched and get less traffic. For example, I may rank on page 1 for a term that only brings me 5 uniques a day, while you might rank on page 5 for an adult term that brings you 10 uniques a day :)

My tip is focus on getting ranked high for many less-competitive terms and the sum of them each getting you 5 hits here, 10 hits there should add up. I get no more than 10 uniques or so daily on any one keyword or term, but I rank for many different terms.

There is a WP plugin that lets you easily set a title ad keywords per posting, which I think helps to this objective (I barely use any plugins but its one of them).

fris 07-31-2007 10:44 AM

if you want i can add you to www.squirtingblog.org

NTM 07-31-2007 11:46 AM

It all depends on the optimization.

One of my blogs was getting 4k SE hits after a week.

Thanks for the offer, but that has nothing to do with my blogs, (wrong niche) Surely if its the wrong niche, that would help, but not as much?

I get over 25,000+ unique hits a day without skim. I have been updating consistently since July 2005.

TheSenator 07-31-2007 02:10 PM

There is no subsitute for smart work.

Michaelious 07-31-2007 02:11 PM

Surely it depends on the topics and the style of writing.

scottybuzz 08-01-2007 05:53 AM

Thats very impressive the senator, how long did it take for you to get 1k a day?

Jace 08-01-2007 05:58 AM

camuk19 08-01-2007 07:42 AM

One of my blogs has been up for just over 2 months now, gets around 300+ SE hits a day, took a while to get to that though.

valetudo 08-01-2007 08:18 AM

One has been up for about a month - maybe 20-30 SE hits a day. About 200 hits a day entirely. I'm new, learning as I go and trying to do everything for myself except blog designs.

pocketkangaroo 08-01-2007 08:43 AM

I'm glad people are getting good traffic so fast, but with Google, I've always found that it takes 6-12 months to really start pulling in good traffic. Google likes older domains and the longer yours ages, the better it will do.

teg0 08-01-2007 08:46 AM

I wouldn't worry about it, I'd just keep posting regularly. 6 months is a good estimate.

These are all the plugins I am using. Some I modified the source slightly myself though. In the case of the global translator I modified it quite a lot ot fix some caching bugs and get around the query limits.

do you guys think the related entries helps as far as SEO?? I guess if u a have more internal links on your pages thats good right?

I'm not sure if it actually helps with SEO or not, but I use it since it may have my readers browsing through more blog posts than just the one they came to more easily.

TeenSluts 08-01-2007 02:39 PM

yeah. i figured it would be best to keep the surfer browsing
