A new film reviving the cult 1990s TV series The X-Files is moving closer to being made, according to reports.

David Duchovny, one of the show's stars, has told reporters he will receive a script next week.

Duchovny and co-star Gillian Anderson are both "on board" to reprise their roles as alien-hunting special agents Mulder and Scully, he said.

The script has been written by creator Chris Carter and writer Frank Spotnitz, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The pair co-wrote the first X-Files movie, which came out almost a decade ago. The original thriller series was a hit when it ran from 1993-2002, winning three Golden Globes for best TV drama.

Duchovny was speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour, promoting his new comedy Californication, in which he plays a novelist struggling with a complicated private life.

the show was good but the first movie sucked so much ass its not even funny.

It is about time. They have been talking about another movie for a few years now. That was a great tv series. They play reruns of it on FX.

It depends. The last two or three years of the show they added two new agents Reyes and Doggett. If they are in the movie then you may have to catch up on reruns.

I liked the show, didn't really like the movie that much but yet I still know i will end up seeing this one too.

I have been reading about the second movie for years now and can't wait until it finally happens :thumbsup

I bet they'll ruin it by throwing in one of those 'pop' actors to attract the 'younger' audiences. Someone like keira knightly or so. I sure as hell hope they fucking don't.

I was never a big X-Files fan.

Wasn't the worst show ever, i just didn't understand all the hype...

I was never really into Xfiles much but i would go see it :)

Gee, the first one wasn't awful enough.

First one was like an extended episode with an extra explosion or two. Even to the point of being a little boring. How can a 90 minute movie compete with churning out 5 or 10 hours of content each season?
