My First Day With Vista
Well, today is my first day waking up to Vista on my computer and so far, I'm pretty happy with it. I'm loving having a new interface to work with. I guess that the only bad thing about it is getting used to what is where now, but that shouldn't be a problem. The 3d tiled windows feature is fun to play around with :)
On the right side they have the "Gadgets" section which is neat, you can put in a calendar, notes, slide show, stock watch, weather, news, cpu/ram meter, I love it :) As far as problems go (besides having to take out 3-gigs of my ram to install), the only problem that I've had was with WS_FTP Pro, the current version doesn't work for Vista, but they do offer a beta version for Vista that you can use if you call their support. Other than that, things are going great. The neat thing about Vista is that even when you do a fresh in stall, it makes a folder titles "Windows.old" which has all of your documents, files, and programs from your previous install. It's nice in a way, but also bad because if it still has old files, maybe of which I don't care about, so I guess it truly didn't format my hard drive. |
Sounds like a pretty good review.
I have a computer I have to upgrade soon so I have my fingers crossed and we'll hope for the best. Matt |
I'm actually ghosting a hard drive right now, and then installing it to try out my programs on
|
I'm not going to bother with vista till maybe next year.

I'm pretty happy with it too. I wanted the full version cuz I hate upgrades normally, but your right with the fact that it archives your old OS in windows.old and is really a great feature. Ultimately, there's really no reason to buy the full version at all. (saved me an extra 100$!)
I am a bit disappointed in the Nvidia 8800 drivers though. In XP, I was gettin 150-250 fps in counter-strike source, everything maxed out in 1680x1050 - but in vista, i'm only gettin 80-120 max. =( I know i know, but still - that's a major difference just in the overhead alone. Not sure if its the DX10 backward compat, or shitty nvidia drivers, but it made me a bit bleh. Other than that it runs pretty nice on my system, at times though- dragging windows, resizing them - you can see it get a little sluggish. Considering i have an e6600 2.4 oc to 3.6 - I can't imagine how shitty it might run on lesser computers. I did build this box for vista though =) |
