I need recomendations for antivirus programs

I want to hear what everybody thinks is the best and I would prefer something that dosen't slow everything else down while it's working

Thanks

Babaganoosh 11-26-2006 09:33 AM

I'm a big fan of AVG from http://www.grisoft.com/
I also keep hearing good things about Kapersky from http://www.kaspersky.com/

DjSap 11-26-2006 09:35 AM

i prefer using zonelabs...been good to me so far...

revolte 11-26-2006 09:35 AM

I recommend nod32

Ditosta 11-26-2006 09:36 AM

Avast looks impressive.

phypon 11-26-2006 09:49 AM

I'd also have to say nod32

Babaganoosh 11-26-2006 09:54 AM

http://www.eset.com/products/compare.php nod32 looks like it beats everyone performance-wise.

I've personally been using Panda AV for a few years but as the program develops, it gets more and more resource intensive. It's time to fire Panda I'm afraid.

GrouchyAdmin 11-26-2006 09:59 AM

NOD32 is the best for price and usability; Avast is great if you need eye candy and a semi-decent hit rate; AVG is free and works for realtime, email, and scheduled scanning; Symantec CORPORATE is OK, but takes a fuckton of RAM these days. Nothing's worse than Norton Personal and McAfee.

BuggyG 11-26-2006 10:02 AM

what abouut Bitefender?? ANyone have any info on them? And for info I mean used it or using it. Seems on most comre-antivirus pages, it's usually in top 3

blackdog 11-26-2006 10:14 AM

symantec antivirus is really great! love it!

PenetratinP 11-26-2006 10:20 AM

I'm a fan of Kaspersky.

I used to use Norton but it's a resource hog.

Babaganoosh 11-26-2006 10:23 AM

This thread motivated me to uninstall Panda and install nod32. So far, so good. My machine actually boots a lot faster without panda.

I have Dr Web and it slows down everything, but not for a long time.

I don't use any antivirus programs

Ive used at least 10 different programs over the years - AVG is still the finest at not taking resources and providing protection
In answer to the Bitdefender question - I used it for about a year - it was great for email scanning, but sucked for online autodownloaders/trojans - and used about 10 times the resources that AVG uses
I have found that using AVG and Spysweeper together running all the time takes very little resources and provides the best coverage - although spysweeper tends to annoy me when it finds something a little more than I like - but then I have it set to inform me when something like a trojan inserted in a movie file is trying to load something

mattz 11-26-2006 10:50 AM

I use Spy Sweeper. I think I bought it at Best Buy. Works great, had one problem with trojans and the program took care of it right away. I never had any problems since I got this program

cheekycherry 11-26-2006 10:54 AM

McAfee is a piece of shit... Battling with it right now on my computer.

King of Queens 11-26-2006 11:01 AM

I use Spyware Sweeper from http://www.webroot.com & love it

Got it when I got my my lappy not too long ago due to unbearable spyware on my other 1

Avg !

TheDoc 11-26-2006 11:21 AM

Trendmicro offers an online scanner that snags all types of virus, spyware/malware, and open exploits on your machine. I use it, overall the best cleaning software in my opinion, and it's free.

Before bed, turn off your screen saver and power savers, go through the small setup needed, and let it run. It scans for a lot of stuff so it takes awhile.

baddog 11-26-2006 12:20 PM

McAfee has caused me no problems, been a good experience so far.

germ 11-26-2006 01:01 PM

germ 11-26-2006 01:03 PM
