How much do you tip in restaurants ?

We are off to Sicily end of this month where the expected tip is 10% ( and in Sicily we really don't want to get it wrong)

we always tip here in UK for good service ONLY if its bad we don't and make our reasons clear

do you tip and whats the biggest tip you made?

Cyndalie 10-04-2006 02:54 PM

I always tip at least 20%
Most was 50%

woj 10-04-2006 02:56 PM

usually around 15%

respect 10-04-2006 02:57 PM

minimum and usualy 15 %...maximum 50 %

pussyluver 10-04-2006 02:59 PM

20% or nothing

karlcore 10-04-2006 02:59 PM

I tip about 20% consistently though I'm also not afraid to leave a penny when I get shitty service.

sixstringmoneymachine 10-04-2006 02:59 PM

20% unless service really sucked then it's 10%

xcitecash 10-04-2006 03:00 PM

Biggest tip we ever gave was £250 but that was to a doorman to have someone thrown out the back door at Stringfellows

:Graucho

k0nr4d 10-04-2006 03:00 PM

I tip about 10% or so if the service was good. Alot of times the waitress will totally forget about us and take like 20 minutes to bring me a beer in a nearly empty restaurant. In those cases I dont tip at all

NaughtyRob 10-04-2006 03:02 PM

I always tip more that expected. Living in Vegas you realize that this is how service industry people make their money. Most get minimum wage + tips.

tranza 10-04-2006 03:03 PM

10 - 15% over here.

I'd never tip 50%.

Kimo 10-04-2006 03:04 PM

20-25% if service was good, 15% if it wasnt so good, and 10% if it sucked complete balls

at bars if i have a pocket full of money i tip upto 50% sometimes

I think its wrong to have to rely on tips to make your wage...

i really only eat at the resturant i manage, so i really don't tip much... but if i eat out and the resturant is good, ill tip a few dollars, not a % of my bill, because that usually equals less then a few dollars

KFC ??? :upsidedow :upsidedow

LilBro 10-04-2006 03:06 PM

im in NYC...for food or food related events, usually give 20 to 25%, never over 25% since the bills in NYC r outageous anyways.... if its shitty service i give 15%...

for my massages, if she gives me a happy ending...i usually give 20% plus $20

Swish 10-04-2006 03:10 PM

20 percent standard, more if they really hook me up. :thumbsup

baX 10-04-2006 03:10 PM

15-20% is normal for me
The most I have ever gave is 50%

PlugRush Sascha 10-04-2006 03:11 PM

15-25% in the US, unless the service is complete shit (then it's nothing).

I usually round up to an amount that won't leave me with a wallet full of coins here in Germany. You're not expected to tip here, so the waiters/waitresses are greatful when you tip at all. Hah, my grandpa always pays the exact amount, even down to the cent.

andrej_NDC 10-04-2006 03:13 PM

15% and up

squishypimp 10-04-2006 03:15 PM

15-20% depends on where i am and how good the service was.

andrej_NDC 10-04-2006 03:15 PM

In every country the waiters expect tips. Their normal wage is not big.

buddyjuf 10-04-2006 03:18 PM

usually between 18-25%, depending on the service

Matt 26z 10-04-2006 03:18 PM

I think $1 plus $1 per person is fair.

stickyfingerz 10-04-2006 03:20 PM

15 to 50% I have no problem giving money to someone that takes care of me.

MacDevilish 10-04-2006 03:20 PM

20% if they take the time to make sure everything is topped off... 10% is standard if they just bring you your food... and if they have a crummy attitude then nothing. If they joke around then 25%

shekinah 10-04-2006 03:20 PM

Never gave 1 buck for a tip.. hehehe, poor little girl.

Jakke PNG 10-04-2006 03:21 PM

15-20%.. sometimes less, sometimes more. Depends on the amount of the bill, if it's a small bill and I have coins that are like 5-10% I'll just leave those, and feel slightly bad. I'm not leaving 50% or such unless I've caused them stress or been a pain in the ass, never have so far.

Bad or poor service I never tip. I do not care if that is how they make most of their money either. If you are doing a job that is based off of customer service then make sure you serve the customer. I am not about to reward anyone for lousy service.
If it is good service then 15%
If the service is excellent then 20-25%

Doctor Dre 10-04-2006 03:31 PM

15/33 % ... depending. If my water glass is full all the time I'l tip 1/3.

I'm a big over tipper.

lambpie 10-04-2006 03:34 PM

10% in the UK but you have to be careful they havent slipped a service charge onto the bill already!

Theo 10-04-2006 03:36 PM

bad service gets 0
good service depends, i make up on the fly,can be up to 100% if its a bar

That's their problem though, and the customer shouldn't have to pick up the bill to cover their wages. Paying for your meal or whatever is enough. A tip should always be at the customers own choice.

I hardly ever tip here. The service normally sucks.

The worst place i have ever been for tipping is Ibiza. They fetch you a beer at the bar, and expect a tip. For getting one damn drink which is right behind them. That's their job

madawgz 10-04-2006 03:38 PM

one time when i was really drunk i gave a 140$ tip on a 30$ meal :1orglaugh

she was cute

After Shock Media 10-04-2006 03:56 PM

I just really feel that people should not encourage or accept mediocrity.
You should not reward bad service. Not everyone should get a trophy. There are winners and there are losers. If you want to earn more or get rewards you should go above and beyond what your duty entails. If you desire to just get by, then you made that choice not me and you can get by on what you earn as well.

WiredGuy 10-04-2006 04:00 PM

Horrible service, I tip 5-10%.
Good service, about 15-20%
Excellent service, about 30%.
WG

karlcore 10-04-2006 04:04 PM

I always leave a penny when I get bad service. See, if you leave nothing, they think you're just some cheapskate. If you leave a penny, it really drives the point home that you're dissatisfied.

Nowadays though, I just grab the manager and tell them their service sucks. Conversely, I tell the manager when the service is good, too.

Aneros Josh 10-04-2006 04:09 PM

10-15% if they are subpar/standard and 20-30% if they go out of their way...

Some people don't believe in tipping at all

OG LennyT 10-04-2006 04:11 PM

20-30% most of the time and a fucking penny if they are a douche (although it rarely happens, I am easy to please)

Just make sure you get me a drink before the bar closes
