Should I start the drama now?
 

12 days ago I designed 4 gallery templates for a new sponsor. I talked to the account rep and delivered the files in 2 days like he asked.

I was stupid and delivered the files before I got the payment

I asked him to send me the $100 epassporte asap because I was realy needing that money. He said ok.

A couple of days later, no money, I asked him again. He said he would ask his boss to send it. I waited.

A couple of days later, no money, I asked him again. He said he couldnt get his boss online but he was going to take care of it.

Another couple of days, no money, he said the accounting people were to blame. Then he asked me my name and address for the records. Payment should follow.

Another day and no money, he said he didnt know why, he was going to talk to some people and have them send the money.

Another couple of days and no money, he said accounting was being lazy, but today should be the day.

Another day and no money.... 10 days since I delivered the templates and I'm tired of having to beg for $100 that I earned!

I believe this rep is not fucking with me, I think he is pissed with the situation too. I dont want to make drama, I dont want to post his name or the company, BUT I DO WANT MY MONEY!

I went to the sponsor's site and my templates are already available in the promotion area. :disgust

One thing is for sure, I will never send the files before I get my money again!

Quit dealing with the Rep and ask to speak to his Boss, or have him conference in his Boss on the call. Once you get him on the line, get the accounting people on the line too.

Next time get a 50% deposit up front and 50% on delivery with new clients.

that sucks :( i have someone owe me money for galleries for 8 months now. should i start a drama thread? lol no. i hope we could fix the problem though.. about sponsor not paying their orders on time is bullshite! although it might be ok if that sponsor was a long time client and has credibility. but i just hate keep on waiting for the hardwork you made.. goodluck

At this point, I wouldn't worry or believe what the rep uses as an excuse from the Boss, or accounting, or whatever. I would demand they take it down from the promotion area, and pay up with penalty fees. Or out them big-time. It sucks when the average worker gets screwed, I've been in that situation a number of times myself. :Oh crap

So I would like to get some better advice or get my money and leave this behind. If that fails, all I can do is start a drama thread.


And there's always the chance that the people involved will get in here and say who they are and why they are stalling my payment.

What sucks big time is that I went back into template design because I needed the extra money, and all I got from them so far was the extra work.

Mail sent to support (I dont know who reads that) asking for payment for the templates and pointing to this thread.

Just because this is adult, does not mean laws do not apply. Send them a cease and decist. Then take them to small claims court and get your money. :thumbsup

Even if I was in the US (I'm in Portugal) , wouldnt that be too much trouble for $100 ? Even all the time I spent on ICQ and looking at my epass account 2x a day seems like too much trouble to me.

This is probably just slow accounting, accounts workers think they run the busines sometimes. For what its worth i hope you get the cash and think you are beeing professional by naming until youve given them a warning shot.

Now the warning shot is done, set a time limit and post it here, then let them know that. If they dont pay up you know what to do!

Sounds like they're screwing you around... I'd post the drama and let them deal with it.

You're right. Besides I think the filing fee in our city is
$85. So now you're in for your time + the filing fee. Add the time to go to court. Say they don't show and you end up with a judgement? the courts here usually set another date and you have to come back anyway before you get your judgement. Now you have to collect on the judgement. Hard to do in some states here, esp for a small amount like $100.


Get half upfront. That way, the chance of someone getting screwed is reduced. You want the other half, so you'll finish the work. You at least have half for your efforts.

Since the amount is $100, I'd just out them and copy the thread link to the boss and the rep. In fact I'd start a new thread and make it short and to the point. Company X, contracted for artwork, I delivered and they didn't pay, here is a link to my efforts on their behalf.

I'd stop trying to extort what is rightly yours by threats.

Payment terms should always be understood upfront. That can be done in ICQ for small stuff like this. If you're needing money to live on a $100 is a lot.

I can't speak for choker, but bet he'd be all over someones ass if they cheated him out of $100. I think I've seen him bitch on this board for lesser dollar amount.

Also welcome to the real world. I've been screwed over in mainstream and adult transactions. I rack it up to lessons learned. Sometimes expensive lessons learned.

You can win moral victories and feel better sometimes by outing them or causing them grief. In the end, it is all about the money.

BTW outing them helps the rest of us. If there is another side to the story, Company x can always come to the board and explain themselves.

1. You might get paid
2. You might prevent other designers and webmasters from getting ripped off
3. Shady companies who don't pay on time might avoid you in the future

Reasons not to:
1. Reputable companies might avoid you in the future
2. You should be absolutely sure that it isn't just a mistake before causing possible damage to a company's reputation.
3. A drama thread which merely threatens to name the company might be enough.

I am in Portugal, they are in the US, it's the weekend, so I see a lot of reasons to give them some time to open the mail or find this thread.

I waited 10 days before talking about it in public, so I can wait one more day before doing damage to them, and as Dagwolf said, probably doing some damage to myself.

Waiting for an answer to my email or this thread, trying to keep this as private as possible.

fuck beating around the bush , 10days is 9days too long to wait for payment , would they except the same delay if you were the one paying membership to there site ?

10 day delay is no mistake , the only excuse that could be used is sloppy accounting but that is hardly your problem
