Should I take in a stray vintage Vette???

OK, came across this locally. It's in damn good condition for a 20-year old model, and I'm already haggling with the dealer that has it. The price is reasonable, and the maintenance records and CarFax reports are exceptional.

NOPE! Keeping the 'Stang as the daily driver, but wanting something to play with on the side. The Vette could make a nice mistress. :winkwink:

MakingCoin_Fatal 06-25-2006 02:38 AM

I have a '68 Harley and have a problem considering it "vintage." My '86 is not even close to being vintage.

I would think a vehicle has to be at least 50 years old to be vintage. :2 cents:

baddog 06-25-2006 02:43 AM

Had to Google it:

According to ICBC's rules, to be eligible for the special discounts a car, whether antique or collector, must be at least 30 years old. Which means that as of January 2005 any automobile built in 1975 or earlier now qualifies as "vintage." So from this moment forward only cars that meet ICBC's definition will be referred to as vintage, a limit that makes life easier when deciding which vehicles to feature in upcoming articles.

Well pardon the fuck out of me, I guess the terms "Vintage", "Antique", and "Classic" can only be used when somebody who is really old is constantly posting, posing, and taking pictures with women young enough to be his grand-daughter.

My personal dictionary has now been updated.

maybe you took a 12 y/o to prom... but normally you have to be at least a freshman to attend... and that would be 14-15 y/o....

ssp 06-25-2006 07:22 AM

I wouldn't call it vintage either but it looks very nice and it brings back '80s flashbacks!! Go for it!!

Minte 06-25-2006 07:24 AM

Mr.Right - Banned For Life 06-25-2006 07:36 AM

That car turns me on, what a fantastic looking car. :thumbsup

Tdog 06-25-2006 07:39 AM

I guess you have to be fan of the 80's vette's. I personally think the older model from the 70's is a better look.

MaDalton 06-25-2006 07:43 AM

over here 20 to 30 year old cars are called "youngtimers" - compared to "oldtimers", that are 30 years and older.

one of my cars is also 20 years old, i prefer them over any new car that everyone can buy.

and i really loved that Vette when I was a kid, so I would say: go for it! :thumbsup

EdgeXXX 06-25-2006 07:46 AM

Not bad TD, the '86-'88 TPI vettes are fun to play around with. Is it a Targa or just a straight Coupe?

writersworld8 06-25-2006 09:20 AM

awesome ride! vroom!

HushMoney 06-25-2006 12:58 PM

I think the 80's Vette's will have the worst value as time goes on.

my :2 cents:

in NY 20 years you can get Vintage plates and if your going to drive it under a set # of miles you can get cheap Vintage insurance ... so YES it is a vintage ..

Mr Pheer 06-25-2006 01:43 PM

If you like the C4 bodystyle then get a '96 model. More power, more reliable, and overall better looking.

Really?

What is a historical vehicle or a vintage vehicle?

A historical vehicle is a vehicle that is more than 25 years old. A vehicle qualifies for a historical registration when it begins the 26th model year. For example, a 1978 model vehicle qualifies for historical registration in 2004.

Some vehicles that are less than 25 years old and have unique characteristics can qualify for a historical registration. The DMV determines if the vehicle has historical, classic or exhibit value.

A vintage vehicle is a historical vehicle and receives a historical registration. The registrant of a vintage vehicle can put vintage plates on the vehicle. Vintage plates are authentic NYS vehicle plates that were issued during the model year of the vehicle. More information about vintage plates appears below.
