Facts:

- I use ICQ version 2003b (I don't like the light versions)
- I'm not behind a proxy and don't have this settings on
- I have around 250-300 contacts on my list

could be the # of contacts on you list.

High Plains Drifter 05-03-2006 12:06 AM

Try trillian... here's how to import the 2003b buddy list.

1- Go into ICQ go to "My ICQ"
2- Goto "Save / Load ContactList"
3- Select "Save ContactList"
4- Select "Save as type --> Contact List Files (*.clb)
5- Save the file
6- Go into "Add Contact" (the Buddy Wizard)
7- Select AIM&ICQ as the Medium
8- Check the check_box "Import from an old contact list"
9- Select "Files of type --> ICQ 2001b Contact List Files (*.CLB)"
10- Browse where you saved the file (step 5)
11- Open the file
12- And now you have all your contacts with your ICQ Groups and every contact into its own Group

elektrikfun 05-03-2006 12:07 AM

use trillian instead.

I have installed Trillian a while ago, because I got sick of ICQ. That didn't work out either. For me my "ICQ history" is important. I couldn't find a way to import this into Trillian. :error

I would recommend GAim (like I said), and then use a history reader for checking history from your old icq.

I know that this can be part of the problem, but I need them all. I have already deleted many contacts in the past. Now I can't delete any more of them.

'So Fucking Money 05-03-2006 12:47 AM

Under ICQ Server, change the port number to 5190 or 443. See if that helps any.

freeones
simpel anwser:
just add more icq servers to your list
:)
i got around 20 in it instead of the standard 2/3
DISCOnects do still happen but more like once every 2/3 weeks :)

Hit me up @ icq if you dont know how to do it
and as for the Contact lists I've also have the max added contacts so you can skip those remarks :)

I think it's no longer possible to add more than 1 server in ICQ version 2003b?
Like this: http://hemsidor.torget.se/users/r/REXE/servers.html :helpme

Do you maybe have an url for me?

BrettJ 05-03-2006 01:22 AM

Happened to me. I figured it was spyware thing.

I tried a lot of different things. Two things worked - installing your icq on another machine (I didn't port over the history though cuz I was concerned about maybe moving a spyware file).

That worked for a while. Then it started happening again. I went back to the old machine and started using ICQ 5. Eventually it started happening with ICQ 5 and I moved back to ICQ Pro. Not really sure what it was ... maybe just a bug with the software. The one thing I couldn't do was move back from the existing version of ICQ to the old (fucked up version) too soon... or it started happening again on the new version as well. (BTW I tried completely uninstalling ICQ ... but that didn't work ... because even completing uninstalling the software leaves some files laying around... and hence the reason i used to think it was a spyware thing)

ps...if it works... keep the $100 ... the pleasure of knowing that I could help stop somebody else's icq frustrations is thanks enough

Sarah_Jayne 05-03-2006 01:32 AM

I can't get trillian to connect icq today..frustrating

lakroze 05-03-2006 02:25 AM

Dude I'm using miranda for 2 years and will never switch to icq...

When you install it your contacts automatically goes into Miranda... the only problem is that they are not in dirs (I mean you will have to sort them again, manually)

www.miranda-im.org

lakroze 05-03-2006 02:27 AM

And the other thing - u can operate super easy with 2 or more icq numbers at one miranda :)
(and yahoo, msn, jabber and etc. so )

if it works - send me 3 $ (three) to lakroze at epass - I'm just lack of 3 bucks for this month hosting bill :)

Marie 05-03-2006 02:48 AM

At least I'm happy that it isn't my fault after all ;)

Violetta 05-03-2006 03:04 AM

I think it is your internet connection. Is it a wireless connection? Have you tried to reinstall the network drivers? Are you behind a firewall? (saw someone ask this question, but didn't see an answer.) Do you use Norton Antivirus or something like that?

You shouldn't have arranged the Dubai Webmastergathering, because of that, too many people added you on icq ;-)

See you in Dubai!!! :)

Maurice probeer eens Miranda... je kan OOK je ICQ history importeren. Correction: Only 2003A history can be imported :(

E$_manager 05-03-2006 07:44 AM

you can also use Miranda.

Ok thanks, your answer came most close to the solution.
As I already replied earlier in this thread in my ICQ version you can only use 1 server at time. I have changed the standard host to another ICQ server and since then don't have problems anylonger. Just provide me your epass account and I will send you the $100.

Now my days are much better :pimp

edgeprod 05-05-2006 12:24 AM

Let me buy links on Freeones, and I will buy you a whole new fucking COMPUTER, *and* migrate your ICQ's to Trillian by HAND, if possible.

*AND* I'll pay you PER LINK for links on Freeones.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, SELL CATEGORY-BASED LINKS ON FREEONES!
