Mac Or PC Laptop?
thinking about going mac, been a vaio guy fovever, but digging the new macbook pro http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...clm=MacBookPro what laptop is best these days? |
yep I agree.. can't beat that dual core chip
|
new intel imac
running win XP :) |
I am a die hard PC notebook fan... always worked for me...
|
Get the MacBook Pro!
|
mac book pro.... period!
|
IMO, if you want the best quality on the market, you have no choice but to go with the macbook pro. however, if you are not already a mac person, you need to consider your colleagues and clients and cross platform issues you may encounter. i have been a mac person for years, but everyone i work with is mac-illiterate. i am generally able to address the issues that arise (some file naming conventions, occasional file format issues, and MAJOR software differences), so it's not a problem for me. things have gotten better between the two, but microsoft is starting to cut off support for mac apps (they will NOT release another version of internet explorer for mac). once you are educated, there are few issues, but be prepared for a rocky start if you're new to Mac OS........
i say mac all the way, but like rim jobs, they're not for everyone and sometimes you have to explain it to the person you're with. but i love 'em both. :thumbsup |

you won't regret a MacBook Pro
Powered by a dual-core Intel engine. Up to four times the speed of the PowerBook G4. Eight times the graphics bandwidth. With built-in iSight for instant video conferencing on the move. And Front Row with Apple Remote to dazzle everyone in the room. Wait no more. MacBook Pro starts at just $1999. :smokin http://images.apple.com/macbookpro/i...op20060214.jpg |

I am a Mac user. Switched from PCs almost 2 years ago. I love Macs much better.
BUT... I've heard reports that software hasn't yet caught up with the new Intel Powered Macs. In some cases they run slower than their PC counterparts. My cousin (Tiffany Paris) purchased the new iMac running the Intel processor. In many cases, it's blazingly fast. But in others it's slower. The good news is that software will come full circle and take advantage of the new benefits offered by the Intel powered machines. If you're willing to wait for that, go with the MacBook. DON'T go with the PC. Read post #7 too. There are some very valid points made there. You'll be frustrated for a few weeks as you learn to do things a better way. |
If you don't do much graphix work, stay with PC!
|
As fellow content providers I can tell you how to get the best out of your Macs. You'll love them once you're used to them. And I can point you to all the software that will make life good for the business you do.
|
I love MAC's but the answer is what software do you run and is it available for the MAC? Adobe is a year off with versions of the Intel MAC so confirm run speed of current versions before you plunk down the $$.
I plan to buy a new intel MAC notebook as soon as the 17" comes out. :) I have had 3 years on ine and it runs great but I need the silicon orgasm! |
I'm more of a pc guy

I just got a MacBook Pro with 2GB memory. It's my first Mac and I have to say that it's not that hard to get used to it.
If the apps are Universal and doesn't need to go through Rosetta, they are blazing fast. If they need to go through Rosetta they tend to chew up a lot of memory and CPU. But they are still definitely usable. Only thing that isn't Universal for me is Dreamweaver and Photoshop. |
mac's sucks, i just got the new mac G5 with 1gb ram and i already want to take a hammer to it, with all those fucked up features like hot corners and shit
btw if your getting an intel mac dont do it! they are still in testing period and there will be bugs! |
I prefer pc's. Haven't worked on a mac enough to want to switch

Only thing that is lagging is software that is being converted to Universal. |
get a macbook, click on education on the right side and click on a college in your area, you will get a nice discount :)
|
Once you try Mac you will never go back lol
Get the Mac book. You can spend more time working and less time removing spyware. |

what he said!!! :thumbsup |
I'm a vaio man for years, I just picked up the new asus A6ja with intel dual core processor and 2Gb of ram. So far I'm very happy with it, even the TFT
is of a very good quality, comparable to the SONY X-brite screens |
Go with the mac for sure.
Mitch |
gotta go with the PC
|
They successfully dual booted windows XP on intel macs, and according to some benchmarks that were done, the intel macs are the fastest dual core XP machines on the market. Hows that for irony? Go with a macbook you'll have the best of every world
|
Make sure that all the apps you need to run on the laptop are ported over to run on the MacBookPro (intel chip).
I just picked up a new g4 ibook that is kicking ass. Great deal for the price and after upgrading from a g3 wallstreet, I won't need a new machine for awhile. Either way, Mac's are the way to go for laptops. |
Running XP on A MacBookPro is like turning a Boxster into a Camry...
|
Those of you with a Mac, is the lack of software really a thorn in your side?
I hear all of this great stuff, but I know they don't have the software I like to use. Where you able to find equal replacements for everything? |
Inca,
The major graphics programs and MS Office programs are there. What you wind up missing are the shareware programs that dont get ported. |
There's no right click on the laptop touchpad. Fuck em.

fuck crapple. If you don't already have macs and mac software lying around just get a 2Ghz dual core 2GB ram Dell where you don't have to settle for the 15.4" 1440x900 screen the macs have and go for a 17" 1920x1200 UWXGA for less than the apples.
|
I am not familiar with Mac that's why i wouldn't suggest it. Just settle for a good pc laptop.
|
I should add I've just bought a 2ghz dual core 2gb ram Dell with a 17" UWXGA screen (plus 24" LCD screen for sitting back/dual screening) and it's so nice I'm buying another one for the office.
