Most memorable movie scene of all time?

Of all your favorite movies - what's the single most memorable scene that you can think of? Be it a poignant moment, or funny, dramatic, emotional, surprising, outstanding acting...or just made you feel good (porn excluded, eh).

Luke.

I am your father.

1) The scene from Jaws where Quint (Robert Shaw) is telling the story of how his ship went down in the war and one by one the sharks ate the survivors. I was a kid when I saw this movie and even though the scene wasn't "visual" it was the scariest thing I've ever heard or seen... I love scuba diving, but I still get the chills whenever I dive!

2) Joe Pesci in Goodfellas "How am I so fucking funny???"

3) The last 20 minutes of The Terminator - the most indestructible "bad guy" in film history.

4) "Captain, my captain" from Dead Poets Society. Cheesy and contrived, but incredibly powerful

5) Michael Corleone standing outside the hospital protecting his father and noticing his hand isn't shaking - later in my life, remembering the point of this scene helped me out in a very tough situation.

When the Bandit told Sheriff Buford T. Justice that he couldn't lie to him, and to turn around. Then the Bandit, Frog, the Snowman, and Fred took off to Boston to get some clam chowder for Big and Little Enos Burdette.

Kill Bill

when she asks Hatori Hanzo for 1 of his swords he says "these aren't for sale"

and she answer "i didn't say sell me i said give me"

:)

1. Phoebe Cates getting out of the pool in Fast Times
2. Field of Dreams, "Hey Dad, you wanna have a catch?"

Mighty Chin 03-15-2006 11:23 AM

My most Memorable scene ever though is Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. Where they are in the desert baffeld at the at thousands of people all singing together and a Translator asked where they heard this music coem from. and Immediately everyone points their finger in the air.

End of Casablanca.

So many in the first 2 Godfather movies.

The first 20 minutes of Saving Private Ryan.

Of course Vader telling Luke he is his father and Vader being created in Ep.III is historic at least.

Personally love Danny Aeillo's "I'm not a loser" scene in 29th Street.

SilentKnight 03-15-2006 11:24 AM

For me it would have to be the scene from Good Will Hunting where Robin Williams and Matt Damon are sittin' on a park bench beside a duck pond and Williams makes an amazingly poignant speech about why Damon's character knows very little about the 'real life'.

RuthB 03-15-2006 11:28 AM

the scene in Shawshank Redemption (there are many others in this movie that are great) where Andy (Tim Robbins) plays The Marriage of Figaro across the loudspeakers - very poignant moment

rowan 03-15-2006 11:30 AM

Liar Liar. The morning after his son makes the "cannot lie for a day" wish, Fletcher (Jim Carrey) wakes up in bed after a fling with his female boss.

Boss: Mmm, that was incredible! Was it good for you?
Fletcher: (turning head and smiling sincerely) "I've had better!"

The next 5 minutes are probably the funniest I've ever seen in a movie. When I saw it at the cinema the entire audience was roaring. :)

The wife and I watched that just a week or two ago - and yeah, that was definitely a memorable story Quint tells. If memory serves, it was based on the reallife sinking of the Indianapolis.

G-Rotica 03-15-2006 11:43 AM

Clevon LIttle and Gene Wilder in Blazing Saddles.

Clevon looks at the 2 Klansmen and says "We're all the white women?"

Kenny B! 03-15-2006 11:47 AM

I'd say they are both with Joe Pesci the "How am I so fucking funny?" bit from Goodfellas and when him and his brother were beaten to death in Casino.

The porkey's shower peephole is a classic too.

Mike Seth 03-15-2006 12:43 PM

Catwoman walking out of a building and greeting Batman with "meow" as the building behind her blows up.

gornyhuy 03-15-2006 01:02 PM

Pesci repeatedly stabbing someone to death with a pen.

gornyhuy 03-15-2006 01:03 PM

The door swinging shut as Michael's transformation is complete at the end of Godfather.

GMP_Ryan 03-15-2006 01:07 PM

Nightmare On Elm St. -

When Johnny Depp gets sucked into the bed along with the T.V. and then 10,000 gallons of blood flow upward all over the room.

Spoff 03-15-2006 01:09 PM

Elisha Cuthbert - In ' Girl Next Door' - "Do you wanna FUCK me?" - Like that even NEEDS an answer????

Not entire films.
