Sam Granger 02-17-2006 11:34 AM

Its boring but it does take some skill to do it well...

But i don't know why its called a sport or why people participate in it.

It says more about you then over the game if you dont get it. I petty you.

CDSmith 02-17-2006 11:49 AM

Curling doesn't move as fast as just about all other sports combined, but it is a game of strategy. If you watch it long enough and the telecast you're watching has good commentators you will soon pick up on what's going on.

It's as much a sport as golf is, and hey I'd much rather watch a curling match than watch cricket.

nico-t 02-17-2006 11:50 AM

i saw it once on tv and i watched it quite some time trying to understand the rules and what you have to do to win. I still dont have a clue.

sfera 02-17-2006 12:03 PM

there are alot of wierd olympic sports

EdgeXXX 02-17-2006 12:07 PM

Watch the womens curling. I just saw the US vs Russia this morning and alot of those girls were HOT...

dinkz 02-17-2006 12:07 PM

I've tried it and it's really difficult, MUCH harder than bowling for example... having any kind of control of those stones are virtually impossible.

Exactly. It actually does take a lot of skill.

Beejeebers 02-17-2006 12:11 PM

Curling is the excuse older Canadians use for getting together with a group of people and drinking their faces off once a week.

Web Lass 02-17-2006 12:11 PM

Damnit, I thought this was gonna be a thread about curling our hair. :upsidedow

Odie 02-17-2006 12:12 PM

What about that thing you guys call "football"?

hut hut hut... throw ball.... gang bang - 4 seconds and it's over.
* lets wait 2 minutes to line up the players and talk for a bit *
hut hut hut.... throw ball.... run 1 yard.... gang bang - 11 seconds and it's over

I rather watch curling than "football", it's just way too fucking boring.

Sounds a lot like hockey in that context.

CDSmith 02-17-2006 12:28 PM

I never used to like curling much either, I can see where some of you are coming from. But in the last 10 years or so I have become a bit more interested in it due to it's inclusion in the Olympics. When the game is played well by skilled teams the level of strategy is nearly unmatched.

Shooting pro pool and billiards is considered a sport. So is bowling for that matter.

DutchTeenCash 02-17-2006 12:30 PM

well err its a sport thats bout all

pornguy 02-17-2006 12:35 PM

I can see where it takes a steady hand, and a little bit of practice, but I really dont see that as a sport.

The first time I heard about it, I only heard the name, and not the description. I thought that they were talking about weight lifting.

OY 02-17-2006 12:37 PM

I grew up watching curling - love it.

Funny to watch how extremely serious they are when they compete.

Watched the Norway vs USA the other day and my immediate thoughts about the US team was that they are all GAAJB (Gay As Jay Birds) and that the skip on the Norwegian team is a typical Norwegian version of a hill billy. Hilarious!

Trust me, it's one of those sports that's not as easy as it looks. Anyone can throw a rock down a sheet of ice, it's the strategy that dictates whether it's a close game or whether you get your ass handed to you in a 17-0 loss.

It takes years to get your skill up to the level that these Olympic contenders are playing at.

It's definitely not a "sport" that's for everyone.

gdog 02-17-2006 01:03 PM

I was making fun of it, but still watching it. I can see how skill is needed, but it is just a strange thing to watch.

dissipate 02-17-2006 01:05 PM

my question is, how the hell do you get into curling... let alone get into the olympics for it
