For Those Of Us Born Before 1975 .......

First, we survived being born to mothers who smoked and/or drank while they carried us.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags.

Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a water bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle, and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, bread and butter and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight because WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!

We would leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back when the streetlights came on.

No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no DVD's or video tape movies, no surround sound, no cell phones, no personal computers, no Internet no IPods or MP3 players.

WE HAD FRIENDS . . . we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We made up games with sticks and tennis balls and ate worms and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes, nor did the worms live in us forever.

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!

Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

If you are over 35, you might want to share this with others who have had the luck to grow up as kids, before the lawyers and the government regulated our lives for our own good.

Yngwie 01-20-2006 05:19 AM

I was born in 1974

martinsc 01-20-2006 05:26 AM

hmmm sounds familiar...

bhutocracy 01-20-2006 05:28 AM

heh.. it keeps on moving down in age brackets. People born in the 50's use that diatribe to heap shit on people born in the 70's.

Sarah_Jayne 01-20-2006 05:29 AM

it stood for 1976 babies too

Defiance 01-20-2006 05:29 AM

ServerGenius 01-20-2006 05:31 AM

No-one is claiming copyright people, it's just interesting.

bhutocracy 01-20-2006 05:38 AM

oh, people born in 1975 had plenty of access to videogames and a bunch of other things listed. In the last paragraph - "over 35" is actually 1970.. and given this is at least five years old they really mean 1965.
70's people, lets not buy into this blowhard boomer bullshit :)

I hate that most people have not met you and therefore do not understand the dryness of your sense of humor....

A great line wasted on the masses ...

So, so true.

Birth Class of '69!

Saeun 01-20-2006 06:07 AM

True.

However, in day-to-day life... should a problem arise... let's say...

a long queue in the supermarket because of a slow employee, packs of black kids roaming around the mall, seeing a friend or relative become successful or achieve something (jealousy)... even drama threads on GFY... it's always the 30-40 year olds that have the biggest mouths & cry the loudest.

Keep your eyes open, and you will see it.

For Those Of Us Born After 1975 .......

Indigo advocates believe that many children born after 1975 possess an Indigo-color aura around them and unique almost supernatural traits. To the rest of the world, these kids may appear to be unruly and their parents may have gone overboard in the coddling of their children. Indigo kids bristle at authority and have little patience. Their advocates say they act like royalty and have no guilt. Simple acts, like waiting in lines, drive them crazy. Their parents are sure they can see the future and talk to angels.

INDIGO CHILDREN
Have strong self esteem, connection to source

Know they belong here until they are told otherwise

Have an obvious sense of self

Have difficulty with discipline and authority

Refuse to follow orders or directions

Find it torture to waiting in lines, lack patience

Get frustrated by ritual-oriented systems that require little creativity

Often see better ways of doing thing at home and at school

Are mostly nonconformists

Do not respond to guilt trips, want good reasons

Get bored rather easily with assigned tasks

Are rather creative

Are easily distractible, can do many things at once

Display strong intuition

Have strong empathy for others or NO empathy

Develop abstract thinking very young

Are gifted and/or talented, highly intelligent

Are often identified or suspected of having ADD or ADHD, but can focus when they want to

Are talented daydreamers and visionaries

Have very old, deep, wise looking eyes

Have spiritual intelligence and/or psychic skills

Often express anger outwardly rather than inwardly and may have trouble with rage

Need our support to discover themselves

Are here to change the world - to help us live in greater harmony and peace with one another and to raise the vibration of the planet

Abithefiend 01-20-2006 06:18 AM

I was born in 1972 and I can relate to so many things on that list. Some interesting reading there.

I was born in 64 and

I used to open the child proof medicine bottles for elder family members, everyone was put on a little league team, many of my friends were fat, quite a few had cable TV, and I had video games, in fact I just got them again for Christmas, pong is very cool on a 65 in HDTV.

Need to change 75 to 55 and this will be more accurate.

I was born in '75 and that list pretty much sums it perfectly :thumbsup . Oh, and don't forget:

We woke up early on Saturday morning and watched (non-educational) cartoons on all 3 major stations.

On the flip side, kids today have excellent eye hand coordination. They've put risky sports on the map.....

If I were to change anything, it would be to make them exercise more as children..so they don't have the obesity problem facing this, and other nations.

I don't think we can be 'out of touch' with our kids anymore....and I don't think doors can be left unlocked in this day and age.

I do think that the overmedication of today's generations has to stop...and this belief that there is something wrong with our kids has to stop..they aren't hyperactive...they just need to go outside and run around in circles for a few hours a day....

There is as much right about those born after '75 as there was wrong with those born before.

But, great nostalgia if you don't look too closely, CTB....it always looks so much better in hindsight.

Gnat69 01-20-2006 08:55 AM

Life seemed so much easier back then, would be nice to have it again but we know no such luck......

1968 here

Cassie 01-20-2006 08:57 AM

do any of you "older people" remember when straight leg jeans came out (what year)?

i do and i remember i was so psyched to get rid of those shitty bell bottoms my mother always made me wear.

imageman 01-20-2006 08:58 AM

i can relate to that list having been born in the
UK before they invented the wheel. Things change, some for the better some not
