Traffic or Content, which is king?

In our industry which is king, traffic or content? There can only be one king tho :winkwink:

BAKO 12-03-2005 03:52 PM

Very Simple BOTH

mikeet 12-03-2005 03:52 PM

If there has to be only one thing.... traffic! :thumbsup

Pointless having content unless there were enough heads thru the door.

OldSchoolJim 12-03-2005 03:57 PM

good content attracts the traffic.....

Libertine 12-03-2005 04:00 PM

Entirely depends on your business model. Good content can attract traffic, but traffic without any real content at all can still make money.

BVF 12-03-2005 04:00 PM

Content is King, Traffic is Queen.

If you run a sponsor program, content.
If you have a tgp network, traffic.

MrIzzz 12-03-2005 04:09 PM

traffic is king

good traffic can sell anything

good content cant sell itself

Jamie 12-03-2005 04:38 PM

Traffic is God, Content can be King

Plenty of content out there, not enough traffic.. ask any sponsor

Wilbo 12-03-2005 05:07 PM

I'd rather have a shitload of traffic and no content. Traffic is king, content is only needed for the recurring money.

aico 12-03-2005 05:09 PM

Content is King...

If you have a shitty King, your peasants will leave the kingdom to find a better King.

bulldog1256 12-03-2005 05:11 PM

CONTENT, no question about it

John Marco 12-03-2005 05:26 PM

totally depends on your business model. Word of mouth really spreads with good content, so you aren't so dependent upon traffic, but it's good to have that initial burst to get it going.. I would say traffic is more important because you can make at least some money with traffic and bad content, but can't make a dime without traffic.

fuzebox 12-03-2005 05:29 PM

Obviously both... But you can sell traffic with a plain text page and no content, whereas all the content in the world isn't going to make sales without some hits.

x3guide 12-03-2005 05:30 PM

I'd like to say Content because I wish that was the case, but MrIzzz already said it perfectly. Traffic has to be the starting point, content never markets itself and there are so many examples of sites with great content that screwed themselves for not realizing this.

BV 12-03-2005 05:37 PM

Content is KING!

ThumbLord 12-03-2005 05:40 PM

traffic I am afraid

BV 12-03-2005 05:45 PM

traffic gravitates towards the content, therefor whomever has the content is king

Loch 12-03-2005 05:53 PM

well if you have a ton of traffic you can make cash with any content in the world!
and a hell of a lot more if you have good content to match!

Ill go for neither of the 2!
BUT
If you dont have good partners and good friends you will never get any of the above.
Trust and reliability is king in this business!

Lykos 12-03-2005 05:54 PM

Both definitly!

BigBen 12-03-2005 05:56 PM

Traffic to get them, content to keep them.

Far-L 12-03-2005 05:58 PM

Traffic needs content to make money. Period. You have to push traffic to something that will convert it to a sale - and that is content. Therefore traffic is subservient to content.

You can make money with good content and little traffic but all the traffic in the world doesn't mean diddleysquat unless you have something,i.e. content, to sell to it.

tony286 12-03-2005 05:58 PM

without great content traffic is useless and the other way around. They are like ying and yang

It could also be the opposite. :winkwink:

XxXotic 12-10-2005 10:13 AM

content, you can send 20 million uniques to shit content and make nothing and send 20 uniques to good content and make money. Traffic is useless without content

Hornydog4cooter 12-10-2005 10:14 AM

Traffic all the way......... :thumbsup

Jake 12-10-2005 10:16 AM

Without content traffic is worthless, without traffic content is worthless!

Rochard 12-10-2005 10:17 AM

Traffic is king. You can sell anything with the right traffic.

BRISK 12-10-2005 10:21 AM

Both traffic and content need eachother, but personally I would much rather own a great source of traffic than some great content.

pussyluver 12-10-2005 10:22 AM

Enough traffic and you can sell anything.

To keep bandwidth down, I suggest one text link two words long.
For example:

Hardcore Partying

Rob 12-10-2005 10:27 AM

Hard question to answer.

You can have a shitload of traffic but without the content you won't sell shit. On the flip side, you can have the best content on the web but if you have no traffic then it's worthless.

If I have to answer then I would go with traffic. Power in numbers so if you have 1,000,000 visitors then there is a good chance that at least one will buy your content (regardless of how shitty it is). But with no traffic you get no chance for even one sell. :2 cents:

Violetta 12-10-2005 10:29 AM

traffic is king and content is queen

You may quote me on that:

Traffic is king, Content is Queen - but only together it makes a kingdom.

JOKER - Steve

ContentSHOOTER 12-10-2005 10:44 AM

Content is King is what most people say, but the content has to be good to get the traffic.... :2 cents: :love-boob

pornpf69 12-10-2005 10:49 AM

a combination of both...

BRISK 12-10-2005 10:50 AM

Something to think about:

Would you rather own Playboy or would you rather be a Playboy model?
