I just got OWNED by VIVID!

Damn you VIVID.com -

I'm always multitasking with 40+ browser windows open (both IE & FF) and I was trying to show an associate Vivid's webmaster program and went to VIVID's site (with IE) by mistake, and when I hit "enter", I realized it too late... then:

BAM!

BAM!

BAM!

pop-up after pop-up after pop-up after pop-up, and then their site crashed my IE browser. DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!

All the stuff I was working on... gone.... renewing/managing domains, dropchecks, scripts, spidering/snaking, downloading, uploading, snaking, music feeds, mixing, building sites, multi-blogging, multi-boarding, everything........................ GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OWNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:disgust

:1orglaugh - at myself.

has that ever happened to anyone else? am I the only one that ever multi-tasks like that?

Does anyone know of a program/extension/plug-in I can buy/download that auto-saves/remembers all the browser windows I'm using in case my browser crashes... so I can re-open all the windows again with one just click? if not, I'm going to pay someone to make it for me.

DAMN YOU VIVID... but I still love you guys. sorry, just had to vent... been up for 40+ hours straight... as usual :)

this post sponsored by my happy pills :thumbsup

mini-plug:
By the way, VIVID (or any adult company) if you're reading this, I have the domain PornstarSearch.com available for sale, licensing, partnership, dev-deal. perfect for a search engine... Email me if interested...

Maxthon

I use the Maxthon browser. Found at www.Maxthon.com

It is an IE based tabbed browser and you can do a few neat things with it relating to your situation. You can save all open windows to a group and return to them at a later date. Also you can have a box checked off that will return to the pages you had open in the exact situation you mentioned...a browser crash.

If you had pages that require passwords they open to the page but will require that you enter in passwprds again and sometimes will take you back to the main or home screen of that site etc.

Overall it works well for those crashing situations though.

Take a look at it.

:thumbsup

I always multi-task, not at your level though man. 40 fucking windows? Your braincells must be on some kind of steroids.

Whats wrong with colors? That's the most ridicolous thing I have ever heard unless it was an ironic joke, then lol.

BRISK 11-05-2005 06:33 AM

Lately GFY has been crashing my browser 2-3 times a day for some reason.

who 11-05-2005 06:38 AM

All you have to do is open a new instance of IE each time, rather than a new window. for example, click your IE icon again, don't hit CTRL+N. That way, if one crashes, the others stay up. :)

It uses more resources, but I haven't noticed it being a problem for me.

:1orglaugh keep practicing grasshopper... soon you'll master it.

try having multiple PCs/Monitors going at the same time. I've got at least 3PCs w/ 15" LCDs on right now, 1 Notebook, plus 4 13" TV/VCRs right behind them about 1 foot back, so it looks like this:

TVR-TVR-TVR-TVR (13" TV/VCR combos on a rack a foot behind my desk)
XBL-XBL-XBL-XBL (4 XBOXs w/Live underneath that rack for my mainstream biz)
DVDR-DVR-DVDR-DVR (under the XBL, behind monitors)
NB -LCD - LCD - LCD (onmy desktop)

and I've got a 42" Plasma/Monitor to my right (with shitty windows 98 taskbar burned into it, LOL). I'm an info/news/web/data-junkie... I'm sure I'll get some kind of weird cancer from working in this setup. :disgust

I'd take a pic later, but right now I have "stealth mode" stuff* in front of me. * = organized mess. :)

I was deeply inspired by the setups in the movies: Matrix, Swordfish, Zero Effect, etc... but I think I went over the top.

maybe one of these setups is next:

SessionSaver restores your browser -exactly- as you left it, every startup, every time. Not even a crash will phase it. Windows, tabs, even things you were typing -- they're all saved. Use the menu to add + remove sessions; right, shift, or middle-clicking will delete. "Simple mode" for peace of mind, or "Expert mode" for advanced flexibility.

Also has TextSaver: everything you type, saved (even in frames). Added RemoteSync: session-syncing between browsers (syncs Adblock, too). Added intelligent postData-restore. Added various patches + bugfixes, per discussion in the official support thread.

Download: https://addons.mozilla.org/extension...firefox&id=436

hahahha of course not. If you haven't had this happen to you , your not an adult webmaster :) I have lost weeks of work doing shit like this ( and usually my own fault )

esnem 11-05-2005 02:01 PM

Taboo,

I had my programmer working on our console chains yesterday to actually make them less agressive in terms of getting around pop-up blockers, etc.

What they should be now are simple Javascript calls to open the chain on exit and on load. There shouldn't be any type of back-button hijacks or loading consoles in other windows whatsoever.

I will look into this, maybe there was some code that needs to be touched up still...

Grapesoda 11-05-2005 03:03 PM

maxthon browser remembers where ya where

I mostly use this and not IE

Ok, so we've got lots of suggestions so far... now has anyone used:

Firefox, IE and MAXTHON all at the same time? stable?

just curious.

I now have 28 Outlook Express windows open (see Slavik & DomBuyer, I do know how to use email :1orglaugh ), 15 FFox windows with countless Tabs, IE with 26 windows, and considering starting up Maxthon...

damn, I must have a disorder... :winkwink: :disgust

Taboo,

I just went through the chain in IE, with and without combinations of both Google & SP2 blockers on and off and had no problems in terms of browser functionality.

Yesterday I had one of my programmers work on adjusting a detection on connection speed for the flash movie that was not allowing surfers functionality of their backbutton since a redirect was in place (this affects only affiliate links and not typein traffic though).

I also think our console chains are pretty tame compared to many programs' consoled version tours...let me know if you're still having any problems though.

Perhaps the 40+ browser windows you said you had open had something to do with the browser crash :winkwink:

The worst is when sponsors dont have a no-popup setting when you are viewing their sites from a link from their webmaster program.

That = me not promoting you.

Good, promote Vivid Cash then because all of our tours linked from vividcash.com link to no console versions :thumbsup

j/k... seriously each TV is on news networks, financial, etc, DVRs are recording stuff I can't watch now... I rarely get a chance to WATCH TV or play the XBOXs which are hosting my online tournaments, but I look up occasionally when I overhear something interesting... and yes all the TVs have the volume turned on (real low) so there is a quiet thunder in my office at all times... my girlfriend thinks her head will explode whenever she walks into the room... sometimes I have a jabra bluetooth mobile phone earset on each ear while I'm working and forget that they are on when I go down for dinner or out for a drive. :1orglaugh

so bottom line: 2 screens won't cut it unless I get a wall panel or surround-screen...

damn that sounds cool, I got to go register SURROUNDSCREEN.COM now.

fusionx 11-05-2005 05:23 PM

Avant browser is a shell for IE. It remembers what was open - when you restart it shows the list. You can unselect ones you don't need, etc.

I use it for it's Groups feature, mostly. I have all my MGP/TGP trade scripts added to a group - I open that group and they all pop up in seperate tabs.

I also use roboform, so I'm automagically logged in when I hit certain sites.

Maxthon is supposed to great as well. I couldn't get used to the interface after using Avant for so long, but it seemed stable and very useful.
