yes, i've tried to use different programs but I always end up writing it myself. I can never get it right from dreamweaver or golive

buddyjuf 10-02-2005 12:57 AM

yes I do

Azlord 10-02-2005 12:57 AM

yah. and for the people posting.... DreamWeaver don't count.

syntacks 10-02-2005 12:59 AM

i can write by hand but use an editor. saves time.

TheDoc 10-02-2005 12:59 AM

I do a mixture.. I can write it by hand but still use an editor to rip through it faster.. I then run the HTML from the editor through a script that cleans it up and puts it into a format that I like.. Once the HTML is clean I never open it in an editor again.

xlogger 10-02-2005 01:01 AM

Yes i do.

I also know a little php. I spend the last 8 hours customizing wordpress.

I am going to college to take php courses (something to do with php) as well. Making script (php) is the one thing im not good at. Might as well go to college and learn it.

:thumbsup

Wordpress is a bad thing to learn php on... I took wordpress a few months back and changed it to use different directory names and removed the CSS control over the design.. That was fun.. :disgust

I couldn't figure out dreamweaver, it does to much extra BS.. I have no problems with PS but dreamweaver killed me..

I use WebExpress 3.0, it has no extra bs, it's simple and it isn't to hard to clean up the HTML after it gets done jacking it up.

3M TA3 10-02-2005 01:11 AM

the only thing that dreamweaver is good for is the fact is colorizes different parts of the html code.

especially with php

fuck the layout window, use the code window and the ftp window.

MGPspots 10-02-2005 01:12 AM

what works best for me is to use split screen in Dreamweaver. I use the WSIWYG editor in DW and just keep an eye on the HTML in the HTML window. DW normally does a good job but some tasks are better done by manually typing in HTML and some of DW's code needs a tweak now and agiain.

Working in split mode is also a great way to learn HTML

My stuff is very basic. I have also attained templates over the years that I can copy or rearrange. If I need something complicated, I fall back on goodgirl. But I can edit existing stuff quite easily.

precisely . . . . I would turn it on and stare at it not having the foggiest idea what to do next.

KRL 10-02-2005 01:15 AM

I hire programmers and coders for complex or time consuming scripts and projects, but enjoy and can write 90% of everything that needs to be done on a site usually myself. I like coding it by hand also. That's the only way to really learn I think.

KMR Stitch 10-02-2005 01:16 AM

I know all the basics of HTML. If there is something wrong with a webpage I can fix it with a quickness. So, yes I do know html 90%

Jakke PNG 10-02-2005 01:17 AM

I know html and css inside and out. :)

KMR Stitch 10-02-2005 01:19 AM

I don't really know DHTML. It always figured it was a goofy markup for some chicks webpage

Mmmmm... I always write html by hand - nasty old habit!!! :winkwink:

But for rough layouts... use Dreamweaver or WYSIWYG editor to get a clue...

Dreamweaver can be really simple. Just forget about all the addiction things it has. Just use the basic stuff.

If you use something long enough you are will learn it. Thats how i look at things.

Here are the 2 basic things on DW.

cool1 10-02-2005 03:25 AM

Notepad is my friend.
started out learning html on notepad, and have never used any other editor except notepad since

Manowar 10-02-2005 03:32 AM

evilmaster 10-02-2005 05:05 AM

not perfect..
so - "I can edit HTML "

Wilbo 10-02-2005 05:10 AM

All the cool kids use FrontPage :thumbsup

wallst 10-02-2005 05:16 AM

the real deal about HTML is not if you can write the code line for line - its about understanding what the code does and how it works. the only HTML editing i do usually is cut and paste - works for me just fine.

blackfeet 10-02-2005 05:49 AM

old school here. 100% html. by the time i try to figure out a program, i could have finished my project using html.

cranki 10-02-2005 05:52 AM

Basic_man 10-02-2005 05:54 AM

soukee 10-02-2005 06:04 AM

Of yourse I know :winkwink:

stfuvt 10-02-2005 06:48 AM

i know too

BeatingSkull 10-02-2005 06:59 AM

100% yes.

the code itself is what interested in me in this biz in the first place. back in 1998 during my very first time on the internet i discovered the view source , upon seeing this i became very curious so started to explore it, then bought some books for it, html for dummies, then read everything i could find. pretty much have it all memorized now that it's been so long.
but once in a while this old fossils brain forgets a thing or two & has to look it up. i never forget the basics, but do forget certain javascript attributes so have to look those up.

only code types i dont know how to write are php/mysql cgi, asp, ssi & the code for wireless devices. i have out code through dreamweaver to convert to xml for wireless, but it sure likes to fuck things. but i like to see code view & compare the notepad version with html to the dreamweaver xml version to learn the differences. i'm getting there.

mikeet 10-02-2005 07:10 AM

Yep, fully.. but most of the time i like to use an editor :thumbsup

Holly 10-02-2005 08:02 AM

Yeah. Back in the day I did everything in notepad before I ran across Frontpage and then DW.

Coyote 10-02-2005 08:06 AM

Always. Started back in the early 80's with Bookmaster when I wrote manuals for IBM. Been doin' it that way ever since. ZendIDE and UltraEdit are my editors of choice.
