WHY DIDN'T YOU DEPLOY THE BUSES DURING THE MANDATORY EVACUATION, MAYOR?... Louisiana disaster plan, pg 13, para 5 , dated 01/00 'The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating'... |

Dunno about a murder charge, but the pic does warrant the question as to why those buses weren't used to help get people out. A whole lotta folks coulda been moved with em..
|
Hey idiot... FEMA and co. are the ones that should prepare evacuation and rescue plans for numerous type of situations.. and not leave that on the shoulder of one guy that can easily screw up...

Says the brainless twit that supports Bush killing over 150,000 Iraqi's. |
Bush decided to fly to sandiego on tuesday rather than fly there and help people so maybe he should be brought up on charges as well?

That comment is ALMOST the most ridiculous thing I have heard in this whole mess.
I say almost, because FEMA saying "Well, no-one asked us too......." takes the prize. |

True.. there are more people involved than one person, but it just takes one person to pick up a phone and rally some drivers to do what needed to be done.. When you have an emergency situation, and 'proper' channels would take too long, then someone needs to take charge and deal with the matter at hand.. Also true.. I wasn't there.. we weren't there.. so we don't know all that went on with the evacuation process. But from the outside loookin' in, it seems that the mayor could have bumped heads with the police chief and got the buses rolling. |

What did the mayor do except complain and telephone people who could/should have taken more action?

Even the CITIZENS OF NEW ORLEANS could be seen screaming about Nagins incompetence on TV. There was a man in front of the convention centre screaming(and I quote): NAGIN WE ARE COMING FOR YOU |

They fucked fucked up plain and simple... |
I saw the mayor being interviewed this morning. All he did was try to deflect blame when the reporter asked him why he didn't do certain things. "I made phone calls" was all he could say. It was obvious he was running scared and looking for a scapegoat.
No one man could possibly handle the mess, I acknowledge that, but he did nothing to project leadership and calm during the crisis. He acted like a spoiled little girl who wasn't getting her way. |

don't forget the good governor... |
And who in the city could drive those buses when it's devastated? :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh :1orglaugh
1+2=4 eh? |

the mayor should be investigated but i think accessory to the crime/murder is not the appropriate case to be filed.

the mayor and the governor should have had a plan.. .... PERIOD .... |

You are forgetting that the people who stayed, did so by choice. Evacuation began 1 week prior to the hurricane hitting. If they couldn't leave, they should have made that clear to their local officials and I am sure they would have helped them out, but most people there, chose to stay, for one reason of the other.
Those that stayed, did not count on the levy breaking and instantly flooding out the whole place. You must think that the water just trickled in, it didn't, it filled up as fast as it could rush through the broken levy. Obviously from that picture, after the levy broke and the place flooded, those buses were inoperable, and worthless. I am sure if they knew the levy was going to break and you'd end up on your roof, no one would have stayed. Don't blame the Mayor for the people who took a chance and ended up being wrong. They were warned as soon as the storm appeared to be heading toward them, 7 days prior. It's the same exact chance our Gov't took when the denied funding to upgrade the levies over the past 10 years. |

Basically all that we're saying is that an informed Mayor and Governor should have been prepared for a worse case scenario. There are always people by choice or not that will stay in their homes thinking things are going to be ok, and wind up in a life death situation. We still do our best to rescue those people. |
