I just think it's pretty shitty that they claim copyright on my wife's work that she did for free.

All she had for payment was a link. That's been removed AND her credit for the work was stolen.

If you wanted your wife to be credited for a site she built for free for someone else (I am just taking your word for it) all you needed to do was approach me like a gentleman instead of calling me a thief and accusing me of stealing someone else's intellectual property.

The claims you make are no where in the legal contract in which we purchased those site, their designs, and the content.

Like I said, had he simply IMd me, and explained the situation I would have gladly put a credit for the design up for his wife.

I know CSW was up for sale a long time ago from Tam, had it passed through any owners inbetween? This sounds like it was just an oversight on someone's part (CSW) OR an assumption made on someone elses part (AST) that wasn't actually going to happen. Who knows, I don't know the full story, good luck with the sites.

Maybe I shouldn't have, but it's done. I was showing a potential client what I claimed my wife's work and he noticed that it had someone else's copyright on it he and bailed.

They pissed me off. Claiming copyright means you're the creator. They didn't create it. That's different than trademark.

Just like you can't claim copyright to content that you didn't shoot. I mean you can, but that means you're saying you shot it.
