PLAYERS BALL ANNOUNCEMENT - San Diego Cybernet Expo - Now accepting sponsors!

Now that the Phoenix Forum is over (and totally rocked) it's time to plan your next show. Of course Webmaster Access is gonna be off the hook, but I wasn't able to organize a Players Ball for that one, wish I could of though.

Last year we did a Players Ball for Cybernet at a cool club called Canes on the water with a reggae legend performing, Eek-A-Mouse. Many people who would never normally attend a Players Ball were very impressed and really enjoyed it, even the haters. So I'm trying to do it again.

This time here's what I'm thinking.

1) Keep it at the hotel of the convention, preferably poolside at sunset. This way everyone will attend, it's right there. Been working with Faye on possibilites.

2) Either a reggae band or rock group. Ideas so far are Barrington Levy or Eek-A-Mouse again, depends on the money raised. If I do a rock show, it would be Mini Kiss or Mini Guns N Roses. They're a bunch of little people dressed up as them and they sound perfect. An additional option is mentioned in #4.

3) Sponsorships - I'd prefer to sell off the entire party to only 1 company and have them pay for costs, I'll get exposure for throwing it. Or I'll break it into smaller sponsorships and get 4 or 5 sponsors. Total budget would be $20k, tops.

4) Tone Loc wants to help MC this and perform his hits, like 3 or 4 tunes would be sufficient. I'm considering doing a bikini contest if we do this poolside, he'd be great for that. He's been begging to do a Players Ball since I started these, 7 years now. He's game and he's cheap.

Thoughts? Comments? Interested?

If you do rock, there are a couple good AC/DC cover bands around that could be fun as an "extra". One of them is even a chick band. There's also MetalShop, a pretty popular 80's cover band from the area.

Just some ideas!

D-Money 04-05-2005 09:18 PM

Also, I got a phone call about 20 minutes ago from an industy player.

They verbally committed to buying the exclusive and only sponsorship for January's Players Ball and we would either do Snoop Dogg or 50 Cent. I might see Snoop this weekend in SD at the ICU Ball. All of the famous pimps and players will be there, been on the phone with Don Magic Juan, looking forward to seeing them again.

Anyways, I'm not going to say who this exclusive sponsor is until we iron it out a little more and deposits are collected. But I can say that it's a very smart move to commit that far in advance. I'm impressed.

I'm looking into all options still. All I know is I don't want to do a rap show for San Diego. I'd like to mix things up for the smaller shows and reward those who don't like rap.

I'd love a good cover band mixed in. If people have ideas for groups, keep them coming. If you have contacts for these bands, email me details and I'll look into it.

Nice!

What people don't know about me and KB is, we're big time into reggae. All kinds of reggae too. Roots, Dancehall, Singers, Ska, you name it.

I'm also gonna look into the following artists, if you dig reggae, check these options:

Beenie Man
Beres Hammond
Notch from Born Jamericans
Sanchez (doubt he'd come out from Jamaica though)
Buju Banton (he's too spiritual these days though, I asked him once if he'd do it, backstage at his show, he called me a pervert when I said it's for a porn convention)
Slightly Stoopid (maybe)

I've already had Third World perform in Florida one year, they were great.

To book a major artist, you want to know right away you have the money for it, deposits are needed right away. So selling them quick is always key. There's no money to be made in throwing small private parties, so all money raised will pay for the costs needed.

I'm thinking of doing $500 sponsors as the smallest package so the "up and comers" can get seen for a great price. But that would only work if I can raise a few bigger sponsors to give most of the "main" exposure.

So as of now, who would be down for the "Up and Comer Package" of $500? Those who know they can swing that, speak up and commit now.

The next level will have to be about $2k.

$500 "Up And Comer" Package (not limited to how many we can raise)
includes:
- A text link on the site (theplayersball.com)
- Promotional Permission - meaning, you can issue out flyers or promotional items at the party, on tables, whatever you want basically within reason.
- Thanks on the mic
- D-MoneyShow.com promotion (live show)

$2k "Steppin' Up" Package (not limited to how many we raise, though I project only a few will do it give or take 2)
includes"
- Banner on site 120 x 60
- Promotional Permission
- Thanks on the mic
- D-MoneyShow.com promotion (live show)
- Banner hanging at event (you bring your banner and hang it, locations will be designated)
- Company name and URL on the Flyers for the party ( if passes are needed, they will be on the pass, if not, we'll use flyers)

$5k "Boss Player" Package (no more then 4, if we even get that many)
- Banner on site 120 x 120 (bigger banner)
- Promotional Permission
- Thanks on the mic through out the night
- D-MoneyShow.com promotion (live show)
- Banner hanging at event (you bring your banner and hang it, banner placement is designated))
- Company name and URL on the Flyers for the party ( if passes are needed, they will be on the pass, if not, we'll use flyers)

If someone steps up to the plate in the next 24 hours and wants to buy the lock on the entire thing, they can be the only sponsor for $20k, minus the rest room which is already for Mobbucks.

We posted at the same time.

I'd only take a $20k if it was the only sponsor and take no others (but the bathroom which would be for Mobbucks)

Mobbucks - don't worry, I'll make you an offer you can't refuse...

Great meeting you too, what a fuckin' awesome show.

I'll follow up with you on the sponsorship or you can email me with your questions and ideas.

:thumbsup

Also, for those still reading, I'm hoping to raise the money for this, so everything depends on IF enough webmasters come out right away and commit to something. Then it WILL happen.

So far everytime I've come out and tried to raise the money I've been lucky enough to have instant support, so I hope that trend will continue.

I'm open to all suggestions on maximizing companies exposure.

If someone wants to provide a gift bag with their stuff in it, go for it, we'll work it out. Or a give a way, whatever, bring it.

I've had a few people hit me up on icq saying they think Tone Loc would be great.

He'd be good if I did a bikini contest with him as the host and performing a song after each round. Just surprised at how well received he is so far, cool.

I'm still setting my goal for Barrington Levy, maybe with Tone Loc. Hmmmm.

Sorry buddy, you should have thought about that before deciding to get married. No more Player's Ball for you :winkwink:

D-Money 04-06-2005 02:25 AM

I'd love to have a cover group play AC/DC, Zepplin, Kiss, Guns-N-Roses, Rush...

I'm getting old.

Yep, still got them. I'll bring some to SD with me.

I always make extra passes to save in my vault. I have a vision that one day I'll make a collectors piece with every Players Ball pass behind glass, with pics and stuff. Maybe for my 10th anniversay I'll make something cool like that and give them to big supports of the Ball. Or sell it on EBay.

You know Long Beach Dub was the first Players Ball artist I ever had right? They did the first one at Club Utopia in Vegas, January 1999. They were awesome. Opie sounded a little off, pretty wasted, but the band was tight. They wrecked my after party suite at the Venetian though.

memories....
