5-Year-Old Cuffed, Arrested in Florida

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - A 5-year-old girl was arrested, cuffed and put in back of a police cruiser after an outburst at school where she threw books and boxes, kicked a teacher in the shins, smashed a candy dish, hit an assistant principal in the stomach and drew on the walls.

The students were counting jelly beans as part of a math exercise at Fairmount Park Elementary School when the little girl began acting silly. That's when her teacher took away her jelly beans, outraging the child.

Minutes later, the 40-pound girl was in the back of a police cruiser, under arrest for battery. Her hands were bound with plastic ties, her ankles in handcuffs.

I dont know about you, but if a kid is restrained with cuffs and plastic ties, he/she would have to be acting up pretty bad.. and for a 5 year old, its not that hard to imagine... I've seen plenty of kids act up enough for it to validate them to be restrained.

The girl was kicking and hitting people, and breaking property... the teachers obviously cant spank or restrain the kid because then itll be ABUSE or HARRASSEMENT (maybe even SEXUAL HARRASSMENT) so what better way to teach them a lesson then put them in cuffs? She wont act up like that again I bet, unless her mom makes it seem like shes a martyr. (which seems to be what the mother is trying to play off.)

The next thing we'll hear from this case is some stupid frivolous lawsuit against the school district and police department... stupidest shit ever.

That child is going to be dangerous. That's a seriously violent temper tantrum.

I'm not agreeing with it, just seeing it from the other side.

There is NEVER EVER a reason to put a 5 year old in handcuffs and placed in the back of a police car. EVER.

Look at the mothers reply, the kid is obviously not getting the discipline she needs at home, for this kid; I'd say it was a damn good idea. She had an outbreak because was screwing around with jelly beans and when the teacher took them away, she started acting up like a stupid brat, then her mother comes in and acts as if nothing happened and the kid was arrested for no reason at all.

If the mother had taught the kid better discipline at home, it would never have gotten to the stage it had. A 5 year old is plenty smart to know how to behave semi-appropriately if disciplined correctly.

NEVER. This is a child. 5 years old is kindergarten. I have one. I know their mentality. There are much better ways of dealing with a child than handcuffs and police cars.

As Steve said, a person shouldn't be a teacher if they can't handle a child without resorting to this.

I know that if there was a 5 year old in my house who was throwing books and boxes, kicking someone in the shins, smashing a candy dish, hitting another person in the stomach and drawing on the walls, I'd be putting the little brat in handcuffs myself. The school can't do that. Thus the police were called. The mother needs to get a grip and understand little Sweet Susi has some serious anger management problems that will just get worse with parental coddling.

Ok, so what is the school to do?
That kid obviously needed to be restrained in some manners.
Why do people get outraged when the right thing is done?
I have a 6 years old boy and a 9 years old girl.
Would I initially be outraged if I was called to their school to find one of them in the back seat of a police cruiser with handcuff? You betcha I would.
But if one of my kid did behave like that little girl, then I would make sure that they receive the proper attention that they deserve.
That little girl is in dire needs of mental help. It is probably not the kid's fault, kids are not born a certain way, they are made the way they are by their parents or whoever raised them :2 cents:

Thats right, condem the cops for doing their job. They were fucking "called" to the location because the kid was out of control and had kicked the teacher. Perhaps you belive it would be better to allow the teacher to bitch slap the kid and the fucking mother for not rearing her kid with more disipline? Keeerist! :disgust

When I was a kid I was sent to my room with no supper, or given some time out.... cutting a kid off with no contact for a few minutes works wonders

They probably called the cops because of all the fucking whack job parents who would flip out if the school punished the kid themselves. Parents like this kids are the first people to freak if a teacher raises their voice to the child, yet they don't do a fucking thing at home to keep the kid in line. Pretty fucking ironic but true. Simple solution, raise your kid properly. My children would never do that shit in school. Why? Because they know fucking well that's not how you act, period.

My assessment:
Single mother raising her child alone. The mother is most likely black, so she can play the race card and say the school was just picking on her kid because she was black, and never be made to change her parenting methods. The kid will switch schools, the mother will continue to be a useless parent, the kid will continue being a little bastard.


My solution:

Slap the mother across her ignorant face.
Teach that kid some fucking respect.

Poor parenting is probably the #1 cause of all these kids in the world acting like little pricks. If your kid acts like this one, or has some bullshit made up disorder like ADD, it's your fucking fault. Be accountable for your children. And be posting any fucking gay replies about ADD. If you didn't plop your fucking kid in front of the TV 24 hours a day and feed it root beer and potoato chips instead of milk from the time it could hold it's head up it wouldn't be a fucking spaz.
