No it is not the end of web based. How many people want to explain to their wife what the box is, Or to the frineds when they show up???

I think that most porn is viewed by people alone, and only a small % is done with another person.

w0rstluk 03-18-2005 06:26 PM

read the end, it costs $180 to buy and $30/month

Project-Shadow 03-18-2005 06:28 PM

ONline is cheaper, the majority of people will prefer online I believe.

Yes, but with websites you get a few small clips, with this dvd quality porn direct to your tv.

£180 is not a bad price (about £90). I could see this doing bit time. The only thought is, would the boxes work outside the usa. Say the UK, as in power problems.

I this is so, then DVD porn would not sell. And as we know its sells big time.

This I see gives you the quality of dvd porn and ease of web porn.

XPays 03-18-2005 06:35 PM

i think it's the providers like directv and comcast etc that will see this eat into their market share if it passes the giggle test that is

Rex 03-18-2005 06:36 PM

I think its the privacy of a personal computer that provide the allure to most porn viewers. Quick clip here, fast pic there, etc.

Trax 03-18-2005 06:37 PM

the percentage of people who will buy something like this is so small... it ain't even worth talking about.

"today shipped more than 2,000 adult TV set-top boxes to subscribers who pre-ordered the service during the product?s soft launch. "

They said that only a few people would buy dvd players.........

XPays 03-18-2005 06:42 PM

anyone can output from a cheap laptop to their tv and one can bundle the subscription to their site with instructions etc. and a lot of competition could spring up overnight - if the product passes the giggle test.

it will be interesting to see if people adopt this new twist on high def web content.

the quality of online porn continues to get better. So in this case that is not a good argument, DVD quality porn can already be found at deluxepass, videoz, etc. Those cost like $29.99 a month but you don't have to pay $180 for basically a 'porn' machine.

As internet2 and better quality broadband connections get better i think there will be a seamless integration between your internet connection + tv.

hydro 03-18-2005 06:57 PM

despite xtv and columbia starting thier $1 for 12 porn dvds online porn will be the most popular since its so easy to hide from friends/family/wives/girlfriends

Adult-biz 03-18-2005 07:11 PM

In the UK (and throughout most of the western world I would imagine) porn is readily available on cable / satellite TV after the evening watershed.

There is countless softer type porn channels here and for the hardcore stuff, it is not difficult to find European viewing cards etc.

Porn on the TV has been available for years and the online porn business continues to grow as we all know.

Nothing to worry about. :thumbsup

tungsten 03-18-2005 07:14 PM

i doubt it will affect anything

Obstacles are very much present, but if you think outside the box and are willing to take a risk, then the rewards will be that much sweeter!

BTW, we ran some analysis on Dvdsforabuck's user base, you'd be surprised to know the % of couples who watch porn together + the amount they spend per month :winkwink:

w0rstluk,

You need to make a splash somewhere along the price range. It's not impossible to blow out boxes ala Satellite dish marketing .. every move is a calculated step :thumbsup

good marketing = people talk about things ain't worth talking about? Or how about good marketing = people who say they shouldn't talk about things that shouldn't be talked about because they're too small to even talk about so how is it that it's even being talked about?

I've gone cross eyed :1orglaugh

It's a great concept but I honestly can't see it taking off, let alone taking over.

Ron Bennett 03-18-2005 08:29 PM

The box seems redundent ... why should someone pay $180 for another box when their computer can perform most of the same functions, especially since the feeds themselves are already internet based.

Even if the box is the best thing since sliced bread, one of the biggest stumbling blocks is that people want to keep their porn surfing on the downlow - most folks certainly don't want a porn box sitting on top of their TV.

With all that said, it's probably a nice niche product to push ... but certainly no threat to the on-line adult industry - in my view, the biggest threats are more regulation and consolidation, such as cable companies offering hardcore XXX adult, including gay content, on-demand.

Stop thinking like a free surfer, thats a steal. A lot will sign up for it and not even think about the price.

DVD = $25 for 2 hours.
XTV = $45 for a month, breaking the $180 up over 12 months.

Remember we are selling to the guys with money, the guys without are free surfers who leech the system.

I'm not worried, the more pron sold means the more porn needed.

I would willingly pay $30 a month, not for set top porn, but for a way to make news thread diarrhea go away on GFY :thumbsup
