How much money is too much money for a coffe table?

bought a new coffee table today - growing up coffee tables were something you bought at auction or a garage sale for $5 or $10 - couldn't believe i dropped $900 on this one. Worst part is it's 6-8 weeks before it gets delivered too..

Not a good investment. :(

Pics?

A good coffee table is worth every dime:)

WWC 11-01-2004 12:07 AM

thats probably the most you should pay...maybe even about $600

Kel 11-01-2004 12:07 AM

I've seen some wild coffee tables. I, personally, wouldn't spend more than $1500. So in my perspective, your purchase is just :)

media 11-01-2004 12:07 AM

My coffee table was hand forged by a friend of mine.. Has forged leaves and its all petina and bronzed.. Cost me $600 worth of trade in tattoo art for it...

So you didnt pay too too much, depends on if its something unique..

this one lifts up so you can eat dinner without hunching over at the couch watching tv and then colapses to a cute table after dinner's over

Marcus Aurelius 11-01-2004 12:11 AM

sounds like a decent price. coffee table is a centerpiece item for your den or main living area, best not to go cheap on an item of such visual focus.

DatingGold 11-01-2004 12:19 AM

$900 isn't all that much for a coffee table nowadays.

it is when you grew up poor.....

emthree 11-01-2004 12:20 AM

as long as your feet feel comfy when resting ontop of it, then it was a good buy :2 cents:

that's kinda how i feel - but i'm told that's what the ottoman is for...... and apparently it feels better on the feet being soft leather than a hard table too......

Babagirls 11-01-2004 01:19 AM

personally, i would never shell out $900 for a coffee table. Dinner table, yea. but not a coffee table.

i spent just over $100 on the one i have, its an oak coffee table with a glass top. and i thought that was too much for it.

to each their own though. :)

lol - i got a killer deal on my dining table and chairs - they were only $600 - solid oak - 8 seat table (6 chairs)- double poster. a furnature store here was going out of business - that table usually sold for 3X that...

steve90 11-01-2004 01:24 AM

900 is not outrageous but its not cheap either I would say a mid level one is about 500-600

damn! that is a killer deal! :thumbsup
i love solid oak dining room tables. :)

Holly 11-01-2004 01:32 AM

Yeah, as long as it was good quality/construction, I'd spend that much.

beemk 11-01-2004 01:38 AM

that foldout thing is badass, i dont see why someone would need to eat at the table so bad though. it would be nice for a laptop stand though.

BrainDead 11-01-2004 04:50 AM

$900 - that's more that I am making per month :(

dingo 11-01-2004 05:20 AM

I spent $100 for my Coffee table and it has given me ideas for laptop holders, built in lcd's etc lol

wyldblyss 11-01-2004 05:27 AM

I don't think you paid too much...hell that is a bargain where I like to shop

Herb Kornfield 11-01-2004 05:32 AM

I paid $75 for my coffee table. Its an original art deco piece with a blue mirrored top.

To buy this in an antique shop you'd pay FAR more. I got mine from an estate sale that we went to.

I have gotten pieces from late 1800's to 1960's that would be hundreds more from thrift stores, flea markets, second hand stores and private estate sales for next to nothing.

New furniture is just garbage....

getfreeze 11-01-2004 06:06 AM

cool...

webseth 11-01-2004 06:08 AM

i ordered a platinum stage/coffee table ( platinumstages.com ), still having a hard time sleeping after that, seems like a lot of money. it was 610$ shipped and i wont get it for another 5 weeks or so , waiting for their UK warehouse and such to ship it to holland.

but hey, i DO need a coffee table.........

I don't like spending a lot of money on furniture. With the kid and the dogs, it's just not worth it. Better to replace it every few years.

I think my last coffee table was $400+ bought 3 years ago. 2 years ago my son was on the ladder trying to change the speed of the ceiling fan, fell and the ladder took out huge chunks of wood on the table. I just tell everyone it's "distressed" :thumbsup
