Doctor Dre 10-25-2004 10:13 PM

Back up ... weird . Was fixing shit on my friend's server then boom it just disconnected

pussyluver 10-25-2004 10:16 PM

Where is everyone with the Webair is so great line. I suspect, the best part of webair is the sales pitch?????? Our guys know everything, we're never down, etc.

Kinda sad when someone runs to a board with a problem instead of picking up the phone and calling the trusted support team or their rep. Speaks volumes that GFY was thought of 1st, esp from this poster (not a noob by anymeans!)

You know it could be anything, like the ISP, a local router..... With you posting, I make the assumption that it was the host that was down!

Any comments Dre? This dead serious stuff as you know.

Veterans Day 10-25-2004 10:24 PM

there name does come up far more in these type threads though, but ya GFY is the first place they run if its down for 8 seconds or whatever the case is

Pussyluver: Someone starts a thread on GFY about their server being down and the first thing they do is post about it on GFY instead of calling the 24 hour support centre. I find it strange that you somehow see this as a poor reflection of the host and not a poor reflection of the poster's intelligence. Anyways.. i can't tell if you're being sarastic or not. Bah.

By the way, my server is up and running fine.

I'm setting shit up for a friend and I probably had to hit it like 20 times in the past 2 weeks ... that's not good

But they are moving to a new datacenter or something ... so that's expectable

You make a good point, but this is Dr Dre, NOT some noob. IMO he carries some weight on technical issues.

This may sound like over kill. BUT!!!! I expect a a host to provide a seemless move or describe it to me in detail a month ahead of time so I can have a different server up to take over the traffic.

Shit does happen and it is expected. When a host brags about generators, UPS, security guards, multiple connections to 1st tier communications, you expect them not to go down much. I can't accept, oh we moved its gonna be on and off for a few days. I can't afford that kind of crap. Plus webair is not the cheapest, I would expect more.

pussyluver 10-25-2004 10:39 PM

Thanks for all the input here. The info is very much appreciated.

Webair is moving to a new datacenter?

Some on that list are not 1st tier. For example I think adultfriendlyhosting might be using rackshack... It's been awhile since I checked on many of them You can tell from the IP address they use and an arin lookup...

Good service choker provides!

Bigwilly 10-25-2004 11:16 PM

says webair has been down 4% of the time, isent there some type of 99% uptime guarantee with hosting companies?

4.7% -- talk about killing a site.

Think sampling on some of those hosts is not large enough to be significant. + were there other issues???? Like someone fucked there own server that was part of the monitor Choker set up.

Theo 10-25-2004 11:25 PM

why take 4.7% downtime when you can get 41% ? :)

yeah the mainstream hosts are judged on the 9's

99.999% is about the best you can get..however it is hella xxxpensive

if anyne needs a ups solution i have the guy for you

pussyluver 10-25-2004 11:28 PM

Big events make a big difference. Servepath moved one of my servers, change IPs and assigned the same IP to two different customers. Took two days to get right. I started moving the domains about five hours in and had to wait the day for name service to catch up. As luck would have it, I had good backups on local machines. That's not always the case with MySQL databases. Hard to back those up in a resonable way without spending $$$.

That was the weekend without sleep... FTP has disconnects sometimes... got to watch it.

What technical issues? His friend's box or boxes had problems for a few minutes when he was busy fixing something. For all we know, he caused the problem himself. My server didn't go down. On the rare occassion that my server has problems, i contact technical support. I don't rush to the board to put shit on a solid hosting company.

And that better be up site is nonsense. Candid Hosting with 10% downtime? Please. What a load of horseshit.

well it could be soemthing on his end...

gage 10-26-2004 02:43 AM

It baffles me on how many adult oriented sites don't opt for colocating (to a big datacenter) and hiring a person to maintain their server(s) themselves. Seems more efficient if you are worried about not have 2-6% downtimes... just my :2 cents: -g

Magg 10-26-2004 02:45 AM

Managed Colocation :winkwink:

notjoe 10-26-2004 04:04 AM

My machines are up although my MRTG graph shows that around 5am something happened. My machines are still pushing data out although not as much as any other day at this time.

http://www.hostedcontent.com/mrtg/21...6.82_1-day.png

I suggest you do more research before running to the boards like a little bitch...

Why dont you do a traceroute and show us where it is dieing for you
?

It's not true. We're not down nor have we been down in well over a year. What that means is that someone using Choker's program is down or has been down. They could be down for a number of reasons such as server maintenance or even for non-pay.

SpeakEasy 10-26-2004 08:41 AM

I'm not going to comment on webair down again or not. But I would like to say that chokers betterbeup thing is useless as tits on a bull. It has been proven many times that it is a pure waste of space with 0 validity and full of ways where it is wrong and shows incorrect info. It's amazing he hasnt been sued yet over it?:2 cents:

As far as DrDre....LOL isn't he the same guy that gets accused of scamming people for bogus printing deals at every Internext? :1orglaugh I'm not sure how much validity I would put into anything he says either.:2 cents:

Exactly:thumbsup But you know most Idiots like to run to a board just to up their post count with no regards for the negative publicity they bring to a sponsor, host, etc......

Used that site for a long time.. Helps narrow in on problems. Before I file a trouble report, I've done a tracert, have been to traceroute.org, checked DNS, checked billing to make sure there was no screwup and wait a few minutes to see if the problem clears without creating a trouble ticket. I also try to get to the root via SSH for a reboot and check Internet status for major problems. When they hear from me, there is a problem and I come prepared with IPs and results of my testing.
