Serious thread about DEATH

I've been thinking a lot about shit and it really boggles my mind about what happens after you die. In some aspectes I guess I can buy the whole "heaven" or "hell" thing, but I really don't know. Maybe when you die it's basically no different then how things were before you were born. Can anybody give me some thoughts or INTELLEGENT feedback. Anybody who wants to be an asshole in this thread, please don't bother posting.

dig420 10-02-2004 12:34 AM

I try not to think about it.

I know what you mean but no matter how much I don't think about it, there are always those times where I KNOW that it can and WILL happen at any time and it is inevidable.

mardigras 10-02-2004 12:36 AM

You have no control over it, you're gonna die. Live your days the best you can and don't fuck others over.:glugglug

PenisFace 10-02-2004 12:37 AM

Why bother worrying about what comes after death? If you die and thats it, nadda, cease to exist, soul and all...

Why spend time thinking about it, when you only have on life to live? My thoughts are, when you die is when you truely know if there is life after death. Or you don't know anything anymore, seeing as you're dead.

Just try to live as long as possible... And hope there isn't a bus out there somewhere with your name on it.

strats 10-02-2004 12:39 AM

so many philosophies already appearing in this thread. dont buy it'

thats the first rule

DogsandBigCats 10-02-2004 12:39 AM

It's just that there has to be some kind of meaning to life. I'm not sure that when you die there really is a heaver, or if there is reincarnation, or if you are basically in an eternal sleep or what. I am just questioning the whole concept of life right now (a little drunk too)

SleazeQueen 10-02-2004 12:46 AM

The problem with this argument is that there's no way to know for sure until you're there, and once you're there, it doesn't really matter anymore anyway. Right?

I believe certain things. Nothing you're going to read about in some really old book or hear about on TV. I've been through things and seen things that make me believe something happens beyond just *poof* that's it. There is something amazing happening at that minute, but I can't tell you what it is. I hope not to be able to tell you for a VERY long time. :)

DogsandBigCats 10-02-2004 12:51 AM

This girl I knew one told me that she was on some kind of medication and one night she woke up and couldn't breathe, and had enough energy to get to her parents. Anyway, she was clinically dead for like 15 mins or so, and while she was unconsious, she said that she had an "out of body experience" and knew the names of all the paramedics that helped her out during this episide. She's a good friend of mine so I know she wouldn't bullshit me. It just seems interesting that during when she was DEAD, she knew all their names cause when she was out of body she read all their name tags!!!!

Phoenix 10-02-2004 12:52 AM

learn to accept it and move on

we are all worm food in the end

unless you are cremated

id like to be burnt on top of a mountain

probably laws against it..but i should have enough money by then

bestwaysex 10-02-2004 12:52 AM

NDEs [Near Death Experiences] are the closest things you will ever come to finding out what happens after you're dead, until you're ACTUALLY dead..

Read up some things on http://nderf.org

Though i doubt even they know what happens after you're dead.. but enough people have stated similar things from their NDEs to make some promising claims

Vitasoy 10-02-2004 12:55 AM

For life in the present there is no death. Death is not an event in life. It is not a fact in the world. :)

Interesting. She knew their names without ever having met them?

I think it's just insane how there is so much shit around us (Space, Time, the world, solar system, the universe, etc) and our life is so short. There has to be a REASON why all this shit exists and yet our life is so short!! In lots of ways I believe in evolution, but creatitionism I believe fits into it. But what if "god" created evolution. And what is god? I will admit I am not religious, but I still have a fascination with shit that I don't know much about.

hydro 10-02-2004 01:01 AM

Just enjoy life and remember to live twice as much as you work. Its sad when i think about how many people spend thier life working and paying bills instead of doing the stuff they always wanted to or spedning time with thier family. I would hope there is a heaven where we can all meet up with family members and friends (assuming they aren't in hell :thumbsup) but we'll never know until we die, and thats if we are even able to process a thought.

You can't possibly KNOW this for sure. The events you describe are what happen to the physical body. But there may well be more to us than just a physical body.

evolution is tricky, that atomic nucleus had to come from somewhere.

DogsandBigCats 10-02-2004 01:06 AM

Yeah, there has to be a reason for every single thing that exists. From what a good friend of mine told me, life is simply a step, and when you die, you go to the next step. And there are either a certain number of steps or an infinite number of steps. I believe there is a true meaning and reason for anything and EVERYTHING that exists

Why?
We're animals ment to reproduce, and the human race has gotten out of control.
Born - eat - shit - fuck - breed - die
repeat with next generation

DWB 10-02-2004 01:08 AM

There is a great book called "A Glorious Accident" that talks about this and other thoughts. How everything has to be just so in order for life to exist... foes into full detail about what life HAS to have to exist. Really neat.

A good read if you want to bend your mind a little.

That's utter bullshit. He just can't cope with the fact that he turns to dirt and wormfood after he dies, nothing more.

Nothing will happen. You die. That's it. You go to sleep. You are goneski.

DogsandBigCats 10-02-2004 01:11 AM

There is one thought that really boggles the mind. What if there was "NOTHING"!!!! Absolute ZERO matter in the entire known universe!!! Total blackness, total nothing, NOT A SINGLE FUCKING ATOM!!! If you think about that enough, it will start to hurt!!!!!

johndoebob 10-02-2004 01:13 AM

Face it - you're dead, there isn't anything after, your personality is just gone.

Your brain and mind is totally biochemic and depends on your physical body, without it you can't exist.

Mind altering diseases like schizophrenia etc. proof this statement because they're biochemical caused.

At 300 pounds, you're gonna feed the worms for a long time, dude.

It always amazes me how people think this way. YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENS BECAUSE YOU HAVE NEVER DIED BEFORE.

It's a lot more likely to happen than there to be an 'afterlife'

Good thing if my succulent body gives nutritions to a lot of worms.

But what does my weight have to do with anything? Trying to be witty? Maybe you shouldn't try, it's pathetic.

Yea thats cool man. This shit has really infected my mind at random times in my life. Although I hate thinking about death, I tell myself that one day I WILL DIE and there is no avoiding it.

The concept of absolute nothingness is something that the human mind cannot process. You might think you can conceive of it but yout really can't.

DogsandBigCats 10-02-2004 01:28 AM

Sometimes I have to think, is death basically just a timewarp to your reincarnation? And what I mean by that is, your memory is erased and you are reborn to another life form? So much shit to think about!

That's what is so crazy about it!!! It is an idea!!! What if there was absolute nothingness!!! If you compare that to our life and the solar system, the galaxies, and the universe than besides life itself, there has to be a meaning to everything else as well! Whether it has life or not!

But you are also consciousness and raw energy. Where does all that go at the moment of death? What about "the soul" if you believe in that?
