Best Sports Car Under $80k

OK heres the deelio.

I got $80k to spend.

Whats the best sports car I can buy in that money? Its around £40,000 in UK money and the car should be available in the UK without any need for import. Include pics.

ztik 09-30-2004 08:50 AM

get a older ferrari

Theo 09-30-2004 08:51 AM

a ferrari in UK will need 20k just for insurance, right?

mackey 09-30-2004 08:51 AM

I'm not sure how much they go for over in the UK....

The MSRP is just over 80K is the states

2004 Acura/Honda NSX

The HP is a little weak for the price, but will smoke any car through a corner....

a lot of people will say viper or corvette, but those need importing right?

Blaze 09-30-2004 09:03 AM

BMW M3, best sports car I have owned to date, and I have owned alot.

Porsche Boxter or 911.

chodadog 09-30-2004 09:32 AM

The Vauxhall VX220 was voted the Car Magazine car of the year. It beat ferraris, porsches and lambos to get that spot.

They've since released an even better model, apparently, the VXR220. Available in the UK. 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds. Only 60 were made and were sold for £30K. Pretty sure they've all been bought.

http://www.fast-autos.net/vauxhall/vxr220.jpg

However, you can still get the VX220 for about £23k (from memory). 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds.
http://www.tiscali.co.uk/motoring/ro...03vx220t01.jpg

Or you could go the Lotus Elise. The VX220 is actually based on the Elise. From what i've read, for performance, you'd want the VX220.

Yes, this is a sweet car.

I think to Lotus will be too small for him though.... plus it doesn't come with many options....

its pretty much built to be a lightweight sports car....

Always a beautiful car..but any F-car you can get for under 80k will eat you alive on maintenance dollars..

Get a Porsche..
The price on 996TT's are falling into that range now..and for the buck there isn't a better ride on the market.

BuckLover 09-30-2004 10:29 AM

Get a used 993 Porsche turbo, or a 996 Turbo if you can find one under $80K

There is no substitute!

skinnay 09-30-2004 10:40 AM

i never understand how people have 80k ready to drop into a car and dont have the slightest idea of what car they want. i would assume the person is not really into cars, which i would also assume they really suck at driving and shouldnt be driving an $80,000 sports car. but if you're gonna spend the money anyway my vote goes for an mkIV supra or rs6, or m3, or an sti.

mackey 09-30-2004 10:43 AM

Great point!

Personally I would buy a 40-50K car and put at least 10-15K into it, then keep the rest for maintence costs...
